Whitlock Starts Tiff With WPI's Athan On PFT

Warpaint Illustrated’s Nick Athan is a helluva nice guy. WPI is a solid site. But I will say that I have occasionally found some of his scoops to be a little Mortensenesque, if you catch my drift. Basically, his insider information is about as good as mine, and I don’t have any so-called “sources” inside the Chiefs organization. I don’t pretend to either.

Jason Whitlock went a little but further than what I’m willing to, absolutely crushing Athan via IM to Mike Florio. From PFT:

Our concerns became even more pointed upon receiving moments ago the following IM from Jason Whitlock: “LEAVE NICK ATHAN ALONE. . . total assclown. ASSCLOWN.”

(You know, Whitlock’s career would really take off if he’d quit being so damned wishy-washy about his opinions.)

“Feel free to quote me by name,” Whitlock said, “belittling you for even responding to that assclown’s e-mail. He’s the guy who sent NFL Network an e-mail saying the Chiefs’ deal for Shanahan was DONE and that Schefter was wrong. Athan is an assclown.”

Wow. Athan definitely hit the canvas on that one. Ouch. Sorry, Nick, gotta call ‘em like I see ‘em.

Now we’re once again left to wonder whether or not the Chiefs have actually fulfilled the Rooney Rule requirement after it looks like Athan’s earlier rebort might have been conjured out of thin air. Great.

In today's media getting the scoop is more important than getting it right. Information gets out there so fast, everyone wants to be the first to put it out there. That is why hacks like Nick Athan get any run and why Mortenson was willing to report a factually incorrect story with Athan as the source. The good thing about this site is that it is just people sharing thoughts about the Chiefs and everyone knows what the deal is. Warpaint tries to portray itself as some inside source. Seeing how things are run at Arrowhead lately I'd be surprised if Mrs. Pioli and Mrs. Hunt have any clue what is going on, much less Nick Athan.

In this day and age information is so readily and speadily available through the internet, that I do not care who got the first scoop. I really don't.

It used to be that someone would get the scoop first and be able to put it "in print" before the printing deadline, thus they could brag that they were the first to report. Maybe back then it was important becuase it would sell more newspapers.

First to report nowadays is overated, and leads to BS stuff. I think Athan, if its true, is just trying to make a name for himself. Unfortunately its turning out to be a bad name.

Do you really care who breaks a story, do you?

With Pioli, we will know when he wants us too.

All of his secrets are leading to more rumors. I can't say I hate that.

We don't post info as anything but "rumor" until we trust it, and the media sources we can trust are not as numerous as they once where. Hard to get good info in the Scott Pioli era, so we all better get used to bogus reports. Not from us, of course :)

Hey Adam did you see the Ferentz squashed any rumor of being interested in the job during Iowa signing day today? Maybe the yahoo guy is full of crap too. Glad I have ya'll to get good info from!
