AADQ: Best 2009 Super Bowl Commercial?

by AADQ

What was my favorite Super Commercial? Well, thanks to the folks over at AOL’s FanHouse, I’ve had the chance to review them. Here are my top three, videos and all, after the jump:

1. Heroes: Football Game

I commented on this one last night, but damn was it great. I must admit, however, that I love Heroes and have always bitched that John Elway is superhuman. So, yeah, maybe I am a little biased. Warren Sapp’s expression when Elway flew down was priceless. Great, great commercial.

2. NFL: Usama Young, Snow Cone Vendor

This one cracked me up. Just a great story. Rather than go with a Bud Light commercial that’s just a new way to express the same old thing, I’m going with this one. At this point, I had lost interest in commercials. Which is saying something for this one, because despite my waning interest, it really grabbed me. Funny and heartfelt. Great stuff. The old man even said terrible like Sir Charles.

3. Star Trek: The Future Begins

I’m a film fanatic, so you know one was going to get a spot on this list. I used to love the old Star Trek movies growing up, but lost interest once Picard hit the stars. But this grabbed me by the nuts for 30 ticks and didn’t let go. The best movie trailer of the night hands down. From the guy who brought us Alias and Cloverfield, so it could go either way.

I also really liked the Bob Dylan-Will.I.Am Pepsi commercial, the screaming Hyundai commercial and some others. Lots of bad commercials, though. The Mean Joe Greene remake commercial by Coke, er Coke Zero, was a flop. It just didn’t come together and Troy Polamalu was nowhere near as charismatic as Joe. I’ll name that as my worst, because it completely failed to meet expectations.

Yea I just rewatched part of the game last night and that one stuck out...It looked crazy....

The half-time show was so good.... lol...a little bit of cheesiness with the ref stuff but...good musiccccs

G.I. Joe worried me a bit. Didn't even feel like G.I. Joe, other than Snake Eyes, of course.

Bridgestone. I remember. But that's not very effective marketing if only one out of so many does. It was pretty good, though. And we are talking about it.

The Mr. Potato head was great too, but I can't even remember what was for...

I'm guessing you're talking snow dome, not the ATM one, right?

I cannot get that Warren Sapp look out of my head. Dude needs to get himself a SAG card!

I agree Heroes commercial was great when Elway appeared. I did like the Doritos commercial too. Lauren and I laughed at that one...

I liked the Heroes one best too. I thought, ah this is pretty stupid at first but then Elway shows up and Sapp's expression - great stuff, totally caught me off guard (and I agree with the sentiment about Elway).

I hated the one with the football players morphing into lizards/monsters/whatever. Pretty cheesy. The Polumalu one sucked too.
