Why would the chiefs not take Crabtree with the 3rd overall pick? In my book Curry will be taken by the Lions or the rams. When hes taken what do they do we cannot take a QB and the line will be ok for another year. So you go to D who is out there worthy of the 3rd overall pick? the answer is noone so you have to look to the BPA which would be crabtree. Think of that offensive production!!! D Bowe Crabtree and Tony G. in Haleys spread O!!! our only other option would be to move down a bit and take an LB or BJ R. at DT. If we take a DT then dorsey would move out to end opposite of Hali.

I agree with the Crabtree pick. Even if we pick him he is still trade bait throughout the first round so either way. The only other viable options are LB Curry or Mualuaga or one of the elite OT's. For all of the talk about Pioli doesnt go after big name FA vet's....when has Pioli ever been 32 million under the cap? Thats like giving an average Joe a $50,000 gift card to Best Buy and saying he wont have the sexiest man cave on the block. Come on.

A. If we stay at #3 IMO we take M.Oher.Big,strong,mean,athletic & can play OT or OG.
B.IMO unless someone really needs that top tier O Lineman they can get other needs most anywhere in the 1st rd.
C.My trade scenerio is Philly giving up their 2 1sts & Lito Shephard for the #3 pick.

dbk - the Vikings don't have a huge hole to fill when Pat Williams retires? I dunno man - sure they need a CB but I guess I'm not all that convinced that Victor Harris is 1st round material. If not Peria Jerry, then I would have to go with Aaron Maybin and put him opposite Jared Allen. Deadly combo that.

I like the idea of getting Crabtree as the 3rd pick. I know everyone says that Scott isn't known for going after big name free agents, but I think they should at least go after one (ie, Peppers or Tuggs) so that they won't have to spend the 3rd pick on those positions of need. Also, if anything, this might cause the Seahawks to panic and trade up one spot and give us more picks in the draft and only lose one spot. I agree that with this pick, you get a game breaker player. The Chiefs will have top picks in all the other rounds to get quality players to fill the other positions of need. Can you imagine the nightmare defensive coordinators will face if their defense would have to face Tony, Dwayne, and Crabtree and Thigpen (a quarterback who can scramble) not to mention Jamal Charles and possibly Larry Johnson. I wouldn't want to face an offense with that many weapons. So I like the thought of going after Crabtree.

They clearly have bigger needs than quality depth. It isn't like this is a Super Bowl champion team that really has no holes.

dbk - the Vikes better be thinking about quality depth and somebody to groom because I doubt 36 yo Pat Williams will play forever.

Crab man is going to be a great NFL player. He has the work ethic and head that you look for. He will shine in an interview. It should be interesting to see how he runs at the combine, although that probably won't change his stock that much. I don't think Pioli is going to miss on this pick regardless of who it is. I'm not holding my breath on a trade down in round 1. It will happen later in the draft.

Double D,

Not sure how you figure that the Vikings need DT help so bad. They have two pro bowl DT's. I wouldn't exactly call that an area of need.

I will laugh at the team that drafts Maclin in the first ten. He's a fraud. He'll never stay healthy in the NFL.

Maybe Pioli's experience with Moss will cause him to fall in love with Crab Tree.

Patriots Offense really took off once they brought in real receivers.

Zach - first off, nice job. I know how much work goes into these.

My input:

If you going to have Maclin all the way up to #8, why not just go ahead and have Oakland take him at #7?

I think Will Moore would be a much better fit for Houston.

Don't really understand the Detroit pick - they need help @ LT and Britton's a RT isn't he? I also think MLB (Laurinaitis) has to be a strong possibility here as well.

Can't see how the Vikings wouldn't take the best DT available (Jerry). They need a couple of DTs pretty badly.

NE going DE doesn't make much sense to me either but then again nobody ever knows what to expect from NE but somehow they always seem to get it right.

Like the Vikings, I think Atlanta would also be better off taking a DT as long as there's a good one still on the board.

Can't see how Miami lets Will Moore slip by them.

I am sold on trading down. There are times when teams of a certain need have jumped up and grabbed a guy like Crabtree. Oakland and Seattle need a WR. I think Oakland will, the weeper might only have a few drafts left, so he will make a splash. Also, it would be a safe bet that Seattle grabs Crabtree if he is still there. Also, Pioli has recently done deals with Oakland.

If we stay at #3 I would take Curry if we don't sign atleast three defensive starters in FA. If we have good FA signings, I would take Jason Smith OT, Baylor.

And I don't think any GM is going to risk his job by taking Freeman is rd. 1

I just read KU somewhere and thought I'd point out that they suck.

MIZZOU-RAH!

with mock drafts you can't take into account trades you just have to leave the order as is which makes things tough because everyone knows that there will be some kind of trades happening.

i like crabtree if the chiefs are in this position and do not trade, yes drafting wr has failed in the past but it has also worked well for teams in the past too. i would rather see crabtree than one of the qbs in the first round i do not see them being worth top three money. the only other pick i would look for is an ot but are you going to pay top three money for a right tackle?

Every year I hear people talking about trading out of the top 5. It just doesn't happen. Does anybody know the last time someone traded into the third pick or higher? I can't see it actually happening, but if it does I will be thrilled. In my opinion the best part about picking this high is that we most likely will pick up another first round quality guy in the second round. We could be looking at 5 first round graded guys in two drafts. Nice.

i would be totally fine with crabtree as long as we make a great defensive move in free agency..if not, i say we draft defensively first

crabtree is a definite possibility!!! We are well under the cap and I expect big offseason acquisitions for our defense. Offensive line is necessity and I would love bookend tackles, but I think we will have Haley and Crabtree this April.

These do help pass the time though, for sure...haha

I want a dominant O-Line again...all good things will come from that...OL in the top three rounds!!!! haha....idk about that...

oh dear... embarrassing, thanks for the clarification.

This is still really early for a Mock Draft so people need to chill :)

Obviously, I think that Crabtree is a top player in the draft and other teams could look at trading up for him too. This is one of many mocks from me this offseason so there be plenty to argue.

Zach,

Hey, at least you didn't let Adam talk you into dropping Curry out of the top 10. LOL. Not only will Curry not make it past Cleveland, I think there's a decent possibility of him getting picked by either Detroit or St. Louis.

Still inclined to believe that SF will be the first team to select QB.

Pioli also came from a team with a solid O-Line, franchise quarterback, and good defense. They didn't get stud wr's until they had all of that in place. They won their Super Bowls without Moss and Welker.

I cant believe I agree with Adam on something. I think if we stay at 3, Crabtree is the likely pick. Multiple big play receivers is the way of the new NFL and Crabtree and Bowe would be Fitzgerald/Boldin Lite. Granted this is not the biggest need on the team at all, but when you pick top 5 you take the best player available. Look at Dorsey last year. DT was not the big need after a solid season by Boone. But Dorsey was clearly the best player left at that pick. Pioli comes from a team with an explosive pass offense and Haley (if he becomes coach like I expect) comes from ARZ. This is an almost no doubter if we don't trade down as the draft board looks right now.

No doc, he did not declare.

Crabtree is the last thing this team needs right now. That is something the Lions would do. You could argue that WR is one of our most stable positions(that is not saying much).

We can always use OL or LB's.

So go with Curry or Monroe here.

I think Crabtree gets picked at 3 it just might not be us picking him. Did Gresham from OU come out? I was thinking he did and I would bet he is the first TE taken that guy is awesome.

I think Freeman heeds a good veteran to mentor him for a few years. And As for crafting Crabtree... YES!

Funny things is that all these Beakers are drooling over Freeman, and I wasn't even that impressed with him his Jr. year. He does have the tools, though.

Merlin, We did this mock together :)

Houston already has Andre Johnson. They aren't going to trade up to grab Crabtree. The Bills just signed Lee Evans to an extension and drafted James Hardy in the second round last year. They won't be drafting Crabtree. I think the 49ers are going to solve their quarterback issues before they draft a wr. The two teams that are in the top ten with the biggest needs are the Seahawks and Raiders.

I think there is a 76% chance he will do all he can to pull that off....

I still think Crabtree is the perfect trade down bait for someone to get ahead of Seattle. The 49ers or the Bills preferably, but also the Raiders or Houston could jump as well. I really think Pioli is gonna make a trade here and pull it off. MAn will that screw up peoples draft boards!!!!

Zach:

Can you explain your thinking about taking crabtree at #3? Stop taking your brother's calls! :)

Just a few things...

Obviously I disagree strongly with us taking Crabtree at 3...If I was a betting man I would say there is about a 15% chance of that happening...And I pretty much just made that number up...

Other things....Maualuga will be picked before Cushing, regardless of whether it is to the Saints or not....And the Steelers are not too likely to add a defensive player when they are playing with probably the worst offensive line to ever see the Superbowl...

I don't see the Chiefs taking Crabtree. I would think they would take just about any other position before they would take a wr at 3. I'd also be surprised if Wells lasted that long. Durability seems to be the biggest question surrounding him.

It will be interesting to see if that many OT go in the first round. If there is a run on them you never know. There was a run on them last year and some guys that were given second round grades starting getting snatched up in the first. Sam Baker and Duane Brown are examples of that.

I was also thinking the Chiefs may take Freeman in the second, but who knows. I've seen drafts like Kiper's with him going in the first and some with him going towards the end of the second round. He has the size and arm strength that GM's and scouts drool over. FYI I am not a K-State homer. KU fan saying that.
