I'll give it as a compliment. Usually, I'm an optimist, too, but the Herm era made me extremely pessimistic.

As an idealist, I'll take that as a compliment. No reason to ever become jaded - I'll go with that too.

All I have to say is that I hope I don't have a brain when I'm old. And you can still have a brain and be an idealist. You don't have to become jaded with age.

I've been warm and fuzzy about our new Prez since 2004. That's always been my dude. I'll leave it at that, since we're getting off topic.

Adam,

Who admitted to being a conservative? Connecting Dubya-era with conservativism is also a stretch I would think. Most conservatives that I know regard the whole Bush-Clinton-Bush era as anything but conservative. And before you get all warm and fuzzy about the new POTUS (who I happen to like and support) just note that we've got another Clinton (pro-Iraq war at that) as his chief advisor on foreign policy and national security.

Anyway, enough of that. I tend to agree with the sentiment that if you're not liberal when you're young, it means you've got no heart and if you're not conservative when you're older, it means you've got no brain. And if your post-mortem of Herm Edwards is any indication, I'd have to guess that you're probably a tweener. :)

My point exactly there Gump. Years ago I was fired by Dominoes Pizza because I didn't make dough fast enough. Is Dominoes a bad place? No. Am I an aweful person? No, I just wasn't the right fit to produce the amount of dough required for the production of pizza. Dominoes wanted to go in a different direction. I had the flour, water and yeast. They provided me with the bigassed mixer. I just had this thing about 300 lb. blobs of dough getting into the dough chopper at 3 in the morning. So they brought in a new manager who discussed the new direction with me and I took my Dominoes coffee cup and went home.

Sarge,

Nice reply. it seems that most people do not understand that being a great human being, and being liked, or even dare I say popular, does not mean you are good at your job. And just because you are fired for your performance, does not mean you are suddenly now a bad person. It simply means that you did not perform to an acceptable standard. Herm is a great guy, he loves the game, the young players like him, but he hsa a less that 33% succes rate, and has gotten worse as time wore on even as our division is collapsing around us.

Time to try something different.

ChiefsRock, as a person who has an autographed picture of Jan Stenarude I would not call myself a bandwagon jumper. So let me pass on some information to you. To "inquire" is to ask or seek information. So maybe we should use the dictionary to look up what rebuilding "requires" (to have as a requisite; need).

Let us take this in another direction though. If you were successful in your job 31.25% of the time (15 wins out of 48 games, I did the math for you), would you get a raise? Would you get a pat on the back? If 50% of your job (defense) was performed better by 93.75% of your peers, would you expect praise? How about if half the way through a task (game) you were more than likely to fail? How about if your success rate decreased by more than 50% each succeeding year? How about if you consistantly selected the wrong tools to complete the task (players)? How about if you continuously identified your task shortcomings and not only failed to make the proper corrections, and made the same mistakes again, but increased the frequency and impact of your uncorrected short comings? How about...

Shit ChiefsRock, go back and play with your He-Man action figures and reminisce (think back about older times) about the integrity of kung fu grip and the loyalty of "life like hair". Your blustering are tantamount to the inane ramblings of a Ginko-Biloba deprived Hoveround recipient. To quote you, "and though this a business it use to be a sport" I highly recommend the aerial spraying of Ritilin over your house. This may calm you enough to allow your proper conjegation of the written element.

Let me close with this, "For all you young yahoos out there thank God you are not important or signficant enough on whether the Chiefs succeed or not." Huh? "On"? At least you capitalized and thanked God. Ok? Ok.

Wow that was hilarious. I was compulsively checking the net the last week or so to find out what everyone knew was the inevitable. Ironically, my friend told me while I was drunk at a bar. I bought like 20 shots to celebrate. How do you guys feel about the possible switch to the 3-4?

I don't hate Herm. Every person I've heard talk about him that has met him likes him, he is passionate about football, and character means something to him. I think he is a great ambassador for the game of football. He had the right idea when he decided that the team needed to be blown up and rebuilt with young players through the draft.

Having said all that, he had to go. It is a common fact that Herm was in control of the draft the last couple of years and this team was all his. It seems that he doesn't have the eye for talent that he was supposed to possess (Hali, Pollard, Morgan, etc..). It was also obvious that he got outcoached in the second half on a weekly basis.

I do agree with Posnanski that this wasn't fair to Herm to let it drag on for as long as it did. I don't care if he still gets his money, I'm sure none of us here would like to be in a similar situation at our place of work. Nonetheless he is gone now and it had to be done. Firing Herm made it a clean break from the Carl Peterson era. Now all we can hope is that Pioli makes the right decision and our beloved Chiefs become a winning franchise again.

ChiefsRock and Joe Posnanki. See, Herm, there are a few people out there who still love you.

Unless that was you, Herm. Probably. If so...+1 for the creativity, +1 for decent writing, and +2 for not saying OK every other word like you do when you speak. Almost fooled us! But do talk to someone about your anger. Wouldn't want you to take that out on your son and adopted son (Jeff Webb).

6-26 and we're the bad guys. As Herm would say (like four times in a sentence) OK.
