AADQ: Proudest Chiefs Moment?

by AADQ

I just got done watching the inauguration and I have to say I am very proud of our country and the progress we have made. I want to pay homage to this proud moment in our nation’s history with an AADQ tribute. What is my proudest Chiefs moment? It actually has little to do with the Chiefs, and more to do with we the fans — people of all walks or life. I believe I’ve shared this before, but it’s been a long time. Here’s something I wrote while on FOX Sports Next Great Sportswriter II about two-and-a-half years ago:

Before my bro and I could even pick back up our beers, Chiefs Pro Bowl return specialist Dante Hall had broken the ankles of a few Eagles special teamers and was streaking down the field towards our endzone. When he hit the Eagles’ 30-yard line, we knew he was gone. We were already in the aisles going ballistic. Us, this Mexican dude and “Fred-Ex” (this Chiefs fan the Eagles fans were calling Freddie Mitchell) were celebrating with each other like we had been best friends for 20 years. We were running up and down the aisles slapping hands with other Chiefs fans. I saw a soccer mom high five a NASCAR fan. I saw a middle-aged yuppie embrace an iced-out teen. I saw a 60-year-old man crowd surfing. I ran down the aisle and saw Dante Hall in the endzone doing his patented “X-Factor” celebration while exclaiming “We’re Kansas City, baby!”

He was right, during that moment there were no colors, creeds, religions or sexes that separated the crowd from befriending one another. We were all the exact same thing — Kansas City red.

I’ll be flying back to Texas today, but feel free to use this as an open thread not just for your AADQ responses but all Chiefs-related thoughts.

My proudest moment as a Chiefs fan was the day my wife first attended a Chiefs game with me. She had been a non football fan prior to us getting married but had slowly warmed to my ardent Chiefs fandom. This was a while back now as Joe Montana was the quarterback and Marcus Allen was one of the running backs. My wife looked great that day, blonde, tight jeans, and Kansas City Chiefs sweatshirt. The tailgating was great the barbecue outstanding. We were pumped for the game and Montana and crew rose to the occasion. Both Marcus Allen and Montana (both future Hall of Famers) played well that day and handed the Seattle Seahawks a loss. Marcus Allen had what I believe is still his longest run from scrimmage that day (for the Chiefs) scoring from about 75 yards out. The crowd was crazy, the day was great, the noise was incredible and the Chiefs played well. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. What a perfect fall day at Arrowhead.

BOWEFAN is hard to beat.

October 12, 1975. A 5 win Chiefs team clobber those damned Raiders 42-10.

Actually, anytime we beat those bastards, I'm proud.

Which is what irks me about Herm - I dont think he gets what "Raider week" is all about. I recall Marty was extra surly and pissed off all week long. The next Coach better know a thing or two about this teams history and the fan base.

KCDan, like I said, I was on a plane today and just got home. It's coming :)

I get proud and emotional after every Touchdown I witness at Arrowhead....Also, every national anthem in a full arrowhead with flyover is amazing to me...teary eyes...

AND THE HOOOOOOOME OF THEEEEEEE>>>CHIEEEEEEEEEEEEFS!

DT all over Jeff George in the monsoon, or Joe Cool getting the last second MNF win at Mile High.

Adam, where's the post on Haley to the Chiefs??

Ok props kcdan58 that was my favorite game of all time . And the look on Elways face was a kodak moment!!!

Now that will be a hard one to top BOWEFAN

I have been a chiefs fan all my life seen good seen bad I am 43 . The biggest pride day for me was after 9/11 and the Giants came to town. When they took the field even the chiefs were cheering so loud. It put tears in alot of people eyes.

My proudest chiefs moment was an exact moment. Arrowhead was full the roar became defaning when the stealth flew over and all those military guys were being sworn in. A gloriously warm sunny day my seats were all mine for the whole year, surrounded by my section friends who would give me whatever they had to eat and drink and no people were closer to each other than us at that moment on earth. Oh the cheerleaders were right below my seats too especially this one with bleached out blonde hair and huge thingys just like I like my cheerleaders.

The Monsoon game. Didn't even care that i was soaked. It was like being a kid again. And for the record I am all for Haley from AZ as our coach. But is he an upgrade? Dunno. This is killing me.

My Proudest moment was Derrick Thomas sacking Oakland QB Jeff George 6/7 times on that really rainy day in Arrowhead. I was in CA in a room of Raiders fans. It was great.

My proudest Chief moment was the day I became a Chiefs fan. It was all thanks to Derrick Thomas. I saw the draft highlights of his days at Alabama and thought man this guys is going to be something! I saw that he was drafted by the Chiefs and the rest was history. Since that day I have been a die hard Chief fan from sunny San Diego

Does this have anything to do with the woman wearing the Chiefs beanie that the NBC camera panned to at the inauguration? Cuz, eventhough I have a fair share of concerns about his administration (albeit that I would have had comparable concerns with any other theoretically possible prez), that moment made me proud to be a Chiefs fan.
