If Cassel Comes To K.C., Pollard Responsible?

by Chiefs

From Bill Simmons’ latest on ESPN:

Q: Should Matt Cassel send a $4 million fruit basket to Bernard Pollard and the doctor who performed Brady’s surgery?
-Marchy, Malibu, Calif.
SG: [shaking head]

If the Patriots either tag and trade Matt Cassel or allow him to walk, he could end up reuniting with Scott Pioli in Kansas City. If that happens, do we have Bernard Pollard to thank for discovering the Chiefs’ first young, good quarterback of my lifetime? Did B.P. do with one hit what Carl Peterson couldn’t do in 20 years. It all depends on Tom Brady’s knee, but it could still happen. Pretty funny, if you ask me.

Lots of irony thats for sure

Since im the only one who seems to have this opinion......

WTF IS WITH THE CASSEL MANCRUSH?

I'm not saying he won't be a good player and i wish him the best, because of the circumstances he definitely benefited in the spotlight this year.

But why are so many people clamoring to trade for him or sign him to a big contract when he basically played one year on one of the NFL's best teams.

Sure he peaked late and looked good in the last few games. But two of his big games at the end of the year came against Arizona and Oakland, nothing to get too crazy about. Against Pitt he completed less passes than he missed (19:20) and threw no TDs and 2 Ints. He is 10th in QB rating which is pretty good but nothing to go crazy over.

All i'm saying is how are we sure this is what our team needs, like the above posted if the Chiefs bring him in then i guess i trust Pioli after all he is the evaluator of talent. Personally i think his stock is a little too high right now. I was hoping we could get Bradford but since he is coming back not sure how i feel about the QB position, i like Thig but agree it wouldn't be smart to have him handed the job without some good competition.

There is also the distinct possibility that Pioli would have brought Cassel with him even if Brady did not get injured. Pioli had some input in drafting him, maybe he was already very high on the kid. If this were the case, Pollard may have just made getting him that much more expensive for us. I am cool with it either way, I agree with Jeremy, you can't blame pollard either way, but since we are throwing out hypotheticals....

Adam,

IF Cassel is that good they will keep him. Brady just got engaged, so I think he knows his career is close to being done because of the major knee injury. I know the Pats lie about the seriousness of injuries, but I have bad knees and have known guys with this type of injury, it is tricky. Especially when the doc screws up the surgery.

However, I am not convinced after one year that Cassel's succuss is due to his talent and not the people around him helping him out. He has a stud line, ok RB's, excellent WR's and he HAD a great OC in McD and of course there is the Bill factor.

It would be like annointing Pigpen as another Brett Favre or Steve Young after the success he had this year. Not going to do it. He still has a lot to prove and after what Pigpen did for us, I think he deserves to be the starter.

LOL on the theme!
Zach makes some great points I might add.

I will just put it this way:

IF Pioli decides to go after Cassell then I would think he knows he can perform at high level no matter the talent around him. Pioli is one of the ones that believed in him and if he brings him in then I feel confident that he will be a good player.

Remember, some of questioned trading a draft pick for Trent Green when we hired Vermeil, but look how well that played out for us.

I am confident that Pioli will make a sound decision on who the Chiefs QB will be. He knows what a top QB can do for you.

There is a difference between being responsible for something and being the cause of something.

Mr. Pollard is not responsible since he did not intend the consequneces of his actions. He may be the cause, but he is not responsible.

I for one do not want to spend the money on Cassell.

By the way, I was out all day yesterday; so here it goes: Hell Yeah!!!! on Pioli!!!!!

I am exicited.
