The Pioli Derby: Leaders In The Clubhouse
According to SI.com’s Don Banks, the Chiefs are indeed looking like the most likely destination for coveted GM prospect Scott Pioli. From SI.com (via Arrowhead Pride):
Reading the latest tea leaves, that puts Pioli in the Chiefs’ wheelhouse. League sources tell me Pioli seems excited about the opportunity in Kansas City, which he’s believed to be interviewing for Monday. Pioli still has to do his due diligence and thoroughly research the Cheifs’ roster, but he’s said to be high on some of the building blocks that Kansas City has in place (like offensive left tackle Branden Albert, and cornerbacks Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr).
The biggest part of my Blueprint was Pioli, so as far as I’m concerned this is huge news. There isn’t a better available football mind out there. He’s the best in the business, folks. The next 48 hours could be huge, Chiefs fans.

Interesting. I still prefer DeCosta, but it’s hard to argue against Pioli. The names floated for his head coach do not thrill me at all. However, Sparano didn’t thrill me either and that worked out quite well. I think the Browns are really helping us out. They are putting on a clinic on how NOT to interview for a GM.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:26 pmMy only concern here is Pioli bringing in a DC who uses the 3-4. I was actually starting to lean towards the DeCosta idea because I love the idea of getting Rex Ryan, but who knows if he’d actually defect. As long as the DC we bring in operates a base 4-3 which utilizes our young players’ strengths, I’m ecstatic about the Pioli prospect.
January 4th, 2009 at 10:30 pmA 3-4 scares me to. It would take years to make the switch. Not that we were that good in our front 7 this year, but those are a lot of draft picks down the drain.
January 5th, 2009 at 12:31 amyes…I would love Rex Ryan…Noone has given him a shot anywhere and it is a shame…
If Pioli doesn’t work out I am all for DeCosta…
