Sproles’ Big Night
Darren Sproles had 35 total touches for 328 all-purpose yards, including the game-winning touchdown. He didn’t even get shaken up once that I saw. Don’t tell me this guy can’t be a 20-touch back, because we all saw differently tonight. I’ll drop a full post on this soon, but for now I just wanted to float that stat line out there.

I chalked your Sproles talk up to being a KSU homer. I still think you’re a homer, but damn did he look good tonight. When can we sign him?
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:53 pmthis kids a straight up football player! who cares about his size! Sign his little ass up!
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:56 pmWe already have a back like him in Charles. We won’t sign him.
January 4th, 2009 at 12:14 amHe will not escape SD…We could hope he has a dream to play for the Chiefs that he tells his agent to make happen…but…not likely
January 4th, 2009 at 1:45 amMan, if I read one more “but we have Jamaal Charles” comment I am going to puke all over my keyboard. Charles is not in charge as far as I’m concerned.
January 4th, 2009 at 2:08 amHAHAHA….He has certainly not shown that so far, at all…
I could not help but chant DAR-REN SPROLES (clap, clap, clap clap clap) tonight…K-State is not known for their creative cheers…but he deserved it tonight…
January 4th, 2009 at 2:36 amIf you sign Sproles then Charles becomes a wasted 3rd round pick. The kid has shown some flashes. He just needs to see the field more. He could be one heck of a change of pace/pass catching back. He just needs the opportunity.
January 4th, 2009 at 3:22 amThat Olathe kid is the shiznit!
January 4th, 2009 at 4:18 am50 rushing yards, 50 receiving yards, and 100 return yards in one game WOW
January 4th, 2009 at 9:16 amSorry Adam, but ESPN is reporting that Matt Cassel is going to get the franchise tag slapped on him. There goes the blueprint
January 4th, 2009 at 1:30 pmBut we have Jamal Charles.
January 4th, 2009 at 2:16 pmRandy, where did you learn your math?
January 4th, 2009 at 2:26 pmthey will tag Cassel only to get something in a trade for him…they will not keep him… Randy learned math at Carthage High School, it’s not his fault…haha
January 4th, 2009 at 2:44 pmSproles did all of that without even starting the game or playing all 4 QTRs as RB.
January 4th, 2009 at 2:53 pmCarthage, ouch! lol
January 4th, 2009 at 2:54 pmSproles is good, very good. But I don’t think he can handle an entire season in that role. One game is not 16 weeks of defenses planning for you (Which really didn’t happen this week), and taking the pounding that an NFL defense hands out week after week. Sproles is great in his role, and can obviously step in for a game or two. He can only work out in a 2 back offense.
Nowhere do you see a guy like Sproles as the feature back, always as part of a 1-2 punch. Even LT, LJ, Peterson etc.. get all banged up during a full season.
January 4th, 2009 at 7:06 pmI have always suggested that he be brought in as our MJD in a two- or three-back system. That’s really what the league is moving to anyway.
He can hold up pretty damn well, too. He had about a billion touches at KSU and was never really banged up.
January 4th, 2009 at 7:15 pmYes, it is moving that way…But it is also moving away completely from paying backs much money. Because they are a dime a dozen…Sproles is small and fast and runs hard, but he would be nothing without his line. Put him behind our line and he won’t do jack…he will be a screen guy and that is it…We can’t afford to overpay RB’s, we need linemen….
January 4th, 2009 at 7:51 pmwould we want to bring in a vet.? sayy Edgerrin James?
he showed up yesterday…but dont know if he is worth consideration…
Im more concered with getting a better line as well woody…
January 4th, 2009 at 8:13 pmDoes anyone else wonder how much a power back like LJ would really do if we stuck with this spread offence? Jamal Charles was fitting in better then LJ was.
January 4th, 2009 at 8:41 pmIf we go for a vet then it should be someone coming off their initial contract. RBs don’t last much past 30, need to stay young. James hasn’t been used very much all year, that’s why he had good legs yesterday. As posted earlier, RBs are a dime a dozen, if one doesn’t work out you easily get another. There are a bunch of really good backs available in this draft as well. Back when the season started we were soooooooo deep at RB, LJ, Smith, Charles, Battle, Savage. And Cox is gonna be a STUD FB!!!!
There are 5-6 really good RBs available in this draft, and probably more that have yet to declare. Also a couple of really good FAs available if we want a few years experience in the backfield.
