AADQ: Boldin And Fitzgerald Present Case For Crabtree
Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald carried the Arizona Cardinals to victory today. Their early domination opened the running lanes up for what had been the league’s worst rushing attack coming into the game. Fitzgerald also was either the receiver or the decoy on Kurt Warner’s late game-clinching drive. In my opinion, Boldin’s pulled hammy is the only thing that kept the Falcons-Cards game from turning into a blowout.
Boldin and Fitz put together a compelling case for the Chiefs drafting Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree. They proved that an offense built around a pair of receivers can both sustain long drives and win in the playoffs. They also showed us that the surest way to get good quarterback play is to surround your QB with a potent arsenal of receiving weapons. Boy, Crabtree would be damn near impossible to cover alongside Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez. Hell, Mark Bradley could be our Steve Breaston. Definite food for thought.
Addicts, given the impressive playoff debut of the Boldin-Fitz show, should the Chiefs draft Crabtree to compliment D-Bowe.

no, our defense lost a lot of our games, not our offense. Drafting crabtree would be awesome but it wont happen
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:31 pmIn my opinion, the defensive front seven is better suited to be revamped through free agency. Otherwise, it’s too far behind the offense.
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 pmI’ve been saying this for a while and I’ll say it again. The ‘best’ option for the Chiefs at #3 is to draft WR Michael Crabtree. Having WR Dwayne Bowe, WR Michael Crabtree, TE Tony Gonzalez, and RB Jamaal Charles will do wonders for QB Tyler Thigpen. Our defense needs to be fixed with some free agents. If we can add Terrell Suggs, Bart Scott, or Jonathan Vilma, I think we would be much more suited going that direction.
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:44 pmAlways take the best football player available. If that is Crabtree then so be it. But I think we should trade down and fill more holes on day 1. If Thigpen didn’t have to get rid of the ball so fast, our receivers could run better routes and stretch the field. Especially if we can hit Charles out of the backfield. But that takes time to develop and our O-line can’t provide it.
January 3rd, 2009 at 10:03 pmYes, you can win with that approach. There are two teams like that playing, the Colts and the Cardinals. The four teams with a bye this week (Tenn, Pitt, Car, Giants) plus the Ravens and Eagles all win with a strong D. Thanks, but I will go with the tried and true. Defense win championships. Nego on the Crabtreeo.
January 3rd, 2009 at 10:38 pmAgain, defense through free agency. Gotta get a sure thing at No. 3. Until one of these other guys proves themselves, I’m saying either Andre Smith or Michael Crabtree at No. 3. Only two I trust in the top five vicinity right now.
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:15 pmYOUR CRAZY!! WEVE GOT WAY BIGGER CONCERNS THAN WR!!!
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:58 pmYes, can’t wait for the next Kendrell Bell/Napoleon Harris/Ty Law/Every defensive player we have signed for years….
Needless to say I disagree…But I would agree it would be a reach to take any defensive player at our pick…
Smith over Crabtree…trade if possible…
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:59 pmIt is way too early to speculate on the draft at this point. We need to get a new GM, and establish who our coach is going to be, and then see which players we can sign in free agency. I hope we can fill a lot of our needs before the draft and then we can afford to take the best player available (which could be Crabtree) or else trade down and fill our remaining needs. The direction this team goes next year has everything to do with who we sign as the new GM; so come on Clark and get us going on the right track.
January 4th, 2009 at 12:15 amWoody, those were Peterson signings. Who says the new GM is going to sign washed-up vets?
January 4th, 2009 at 2:10 amThey were Peterson signings, but they were also highly regarded at the time by many of us…I am just saying…Free Agents always seem promising…
January 4th, 2009 at 2:25 amI think it would be an awesome deal if we could cure our other illnesses in free agency. Woody I dont think free agents blend in with the rest of the team very well at times.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:13 amWe’ve all seen a plethora of “#1 receivers” go through Detroit, and look how far that team has gone. Arizona is an exception, rather than the rule. Still, if Crabtree is the best available player when we draft, then I say take him.
January 4th, 2009 at 1:36 pmDetroit? What about the old St. Louis teams, or the Colts? That 15-1 Vikings team that was two games away from winning it all? Last year’s Pats? Would the Bengals have even sniffed the playoffs without Housh and Ocho a few years back when they miraculously made it? Two great receivers can be a potent weapon.
Additionally, Crabtree is more Calvin Johnson than he is Roy Williams (headcase), Mike Williams (slow) or Charles Rogers (brittle).People love pulling Detroit out, though. Thing is, Matt Millen’s dumbass isn’t going to be making the picks.
January 4th, 2009 at 2:48 pmSorry Adam, I have to disagree. If Andre Smith is half as good as they say, he SHOULD definitely be our #1 guy. Has anyone heard, are we really #3 or do we do the coin flip with St. Louis? I thought we had the tougher schedule so I am not sure how they get to go ahead of us. If they do Andre Smith is gone and we should….TRADE DOWN!!!! If there isn’t a true #1 defensive guy like Dorsey (I know the jury is out for some of you, but I still think he is going to be a stud, with some help!!) then we should trade down and get two or more picks in this years draft, get the Male dude or Laurent…whatever his freaking name is! We need LB and DL help bad! I wish we could get Suggs or Peppers (both in my dream land of course!), but don’t see our beloved Cheaps paying that kind of dough for either of them.
January 6th, 2009 at 3:12 amMike:
We draft #3 because we had the tougher schedule. The theory goes as follows. If teams have the same record, the team with the weakest strength of schedule drafts first. The team with the strongest strength of schedule is assumed to be the stronger team. Between us and the Rams, the difference in strength of schedule was one, count it, one game. If the Rams grab someone you have your heart set on, think about it. It came down to one freeking game.
