I'm Done Watching This Rudy Movie

by Chiefs

I’m not going to lie; I’m not a big Rudy Niswanger fan. The Star has a new article about what fans are saying to Chiefs players away from the field, and he comes off like a bit of a baby. I wouldn’t go up to a player and chastise him like that, and I certainly wouldn’t drop expletives in front of his fam, but Rudy has to wake up to the reality of the situation.

In the mist of an economic depression, Chiefs fans are spending good money — money that some of them really don’t even have — to watch this team. Meanwhile, he is wealthy regardless of the final score. It’s Kansas City, big boy, and the NFL’s best fans will hold you accountable for that hefty paycheck you pocket after every game. If you had any of our jobs you would have been fired by now.

Besides, he has to be the most overrated Chiefs player in recent history. The days of praising this guy here on the Addict are over. I’m declaring martial law on Rudy gushing. No mas! I mean, the Chiefs started playing better when Rudy came out against the Raiders and Wade Smith slid over to center. I’m not the only one who’s said that either.

The guy gets hurt all the time, is the only center I’ve ever seen hold damn near every game and he couldn’t block 120-pound Angelina Jolie from scooping up some impoverished Third World child. I, for one, am glad he’s out for tomorrow’s game. The Chiefs would be smart to make that a permanent thing.

Saying DJ is our best linebacker is kind of like saying Tamba Hali is our best pass-rusher. Not a lot of competition there. Not one of your finer points.

The line looks way better without Niswanger today, although Adrian Jones sucks, too. I'm pretty sure they're both better suited to play LO -- left out.

Adam: if you have tapped into the pulse on Niswanger, I missed that pulse. Frankly, I am a little lost about your current direction evaluating some of the current Chiefs. You get down on DJ and I really didn't understand that one. Although he hasn't lived up to expectations, he is still our best LB. Now, you are going after Niswanger. In both cases, I see other players as being weaker players playing similar positions. Now with Niswanger, I wonder, along with DD, if he is better suited for playing RG. He may be too tall to play Center.

Hey, I gushed over Sippio, I admit it. He played better than Niswanger ever did, but when he got cut I stopped. You're being very nitpicky here, dude. What are you -- his agent? If I dug further on here (not going to make this into a half-a-day thing) and on message boards I could easily offer proof. I read every single comment and occasionally browse message boards as well to make sure I'm tapped into the pulse. I remember shaking my head at all the premature glowing reviews of Rudy. I absolutely do.

One more thing. Ever heard of hyperbole? Sarcasm? Humor? I use them in my writing from time to time. Not very often, though.

Adam: The way I count, that's two very positive comments. Two more comments of 'solid' (hardly a gush) and one more comment that he is gelling. I am not giving you that as a gush either. I bet you could search the archives and come up wih a lot more than two very positive comments for a certain cut WR. If you don't think Rudy is getting the job done, fine. If you think he needs to be replaced, fine. Just make your case as you have done in parts here. To say that he is the most overrated current Chief and that AA is gushing over him requires a high degree of proof. So far you have not been able to offer that proof.

Here are some quotes. I'm not going to call out any names, because that's not the issue here. Plus, we're all wrong sometimes.

The Chiefs have 3 solid linemen in Niswanger, McIntosh, and Waters. (Where'd he learn to count?

My offensive players of the game were definitely Herb Taylor and Rudy Niswanger. (What game was that?)

Albert-Waters-Niswanger-Richardson-Taylor. If they gave these guys a chance to “GEL” we may already have our answer. (You can give Rudy the rest of eternity and he won't "gel.")

My next point is, yeah Albert, Waters, and Niswanger did great… But I wasnt too jazzed with the right side. (Another game I must have missed.)

The combination of Niswanger, Waters and Albert will make this year’s left side solid - not premier, just solid. (Again, two out of three ain't bad.)

That was just what I found in about five minutes doing a search. He's just a player Chiefs fans put a lot of stock in for absolutely no reason. Just because we let Casey Wiegmann go doesn't mean we've got a good guy behind him. Just look at T-Rich and Joe Horn to see where we have goofed on that in the past.

Adam: On another point, I don't recall Addicts gushing over Rudy. How about a few examples of it?

Let's ask him if he wants to star in Rudy II: Rudy Gets Waived.

Instead of the player's carrying him off the field to the locker room, they carry him off and throw him in a dumpster.

Rudy Niswanger is terrible. Might as well play with four O-lineman out there. Ugh.

Adam: Albert and Waters are givens. I don't see changing all three of the other line positions for next year. I can see bringing in two new players there, but someone else is going to have to fill one of those positions. Rudy is a likely choice, but he could be moved to RG.

Merlin, to me only Albert and Waters should be part of this unit next year. Maybe Wade Smith.

Adam: How many spots do you want to replace on the O-Line? I like Rudy more than Adrian Jones and D-Mac.

DD: I like the idea of Mack in round 2. Ideally, I want to go D front 7 in round one and O-Line in round 2. Mack would work out quite well if he was sitting there for us in round 2.

First off, I'm hoping Alex Mack falls to us in the second round. Rudy is just too tall for a center. He might be okay at either guard slot though (long term thought). We need more of Wade Smith at either C or RG.

I'm thinking RT and C somewhere in the first 3 rounds could make a huge difference for this team going forward.

Doc,

First of all, thanks. I really, really appreciate that.

Second, I stated that I don't agree with that kind of behavior, but certainly understand what motivates it. I think voicing your displeasure on a platform such as this, writing a letter to Clark or the front office, booing at the game on Sundays, giving up season tickets, not buying tickets, calling in to sportstalk radio shows and voicing your displeasure, etc...are more appropriate ways to communicate how upset we are as fans. I do think we should be respectful to the players in person. Absolutely.

We'll keep an eye on the offensive line for sure. Who knows what they are going to do.

And my Chiefs-Raiders point was basically that we won the game because Herm found a guy he could actually outcoach late in games.

First to your post below, who cares if the Raiders "blew it" more than we won it. I'm tired of hearing that. There have been games this year that we gave away to a team that didn't deserve to win. That's football. Its a dumb statement that can't be proven so what's the point of saying it? The fact is the chiefs got a win and it was against the Raiders... be happy about it! You know how hard wins are to come by with Herm.

Second, I think there is a line between holding someone accountable and being completely disrespectful. That goes for all areas of life really, I don't care who you are. If Chief fans are really saying that stuff, I'm embarrassed. I'd like to think we (as Chief's fans) are better than that, but perhaps I'm wrong. I agree Rudy is probably not the answer for the long run, but the guy gives it his best every Sunday and I think if you look over the course of the season he has improved.

It will be interesting to see how the line plays this Sun with Wade running the show. Is Jones going to start or Herbie? And what's up with Richardson all year, is the guy just terrible? Has he even gotten in on a snap?

Since I was a little hard on you Adam, (sorry for that) I also wanted to tell you that your columns on Foxsports have been awesome. Don't let that go to your head though.
