I stumbled upon this site on accident and now frequent it almost daily, and the fact that you are so anti-"Harm" (lol) might be what pulled me in. I've been one of those "at least we're looking better" fans out of love for the Chiefs, and knowing this commentary like yours is necessary. Alot (read most) of Chiefs fans do give Herm too much credit, the only common factor in us not winning any of these last 4 games is Herm. Any decent coach could pick personnel for us now because the whole league sees the potential along with strong & weak points of our team. So I don't really think we should keep Herm for that reason alone. BUT I am not saying fire him, I'm holding off on that decision until the end of the season. And I'm pretty sure that something you write will contribute to my decision whatever you may be. So keep it up, addicts don't quit anything that easy!

Thanks for all the great responses to this one -- insightful and, at times, hilarious.

BucktheFroncos, you might only have that title because I left Springfield :)

Great post, Adam. I'm pretty sure I'm one of the guys who compared you to Jason Whitlock. I understand where you're coming from about Herm, but I really think the root of all of our problems goes back to Dick Vermeil. Carl just follows orders from his coach on most things personell related, and when Vermeil was here there was just two (TWO!) picks in the draft that turned out decent. LJ and DJ. And LJ was Carl's pick. (and don't give me anything about Jared Allen.. he was picked as a replacement for Kendall Gammons, not as a DE.. He just worked his ass off and got ) This team rotted out it's inside, it's depth with Vermeil. This is not a 1 year rebuild. This will take a LOT of time and good drafting to get a team that's subject to the same "parity" as any other. I personally think we're on our way. But I will agree with you that Herm Edwards will be like Marty when it comes to playoff games. I just think he's the right guy to get us through the rebuild.

First off, Adam you need a hug...or maybe to get laid...or maybe some Zoloft or Valium or something because that post scared me slightly. But I loved it!

I'll be honest this season is more freeing than any in recent history. The Chiefs have suffered in mediocrity for years now, with a bunch of first round exits or draft picks ranging from 15-20. I watch the games from Austin and don't get fazed anymore.

Do I still wear my Chiefs slippers, or jersey, or hoodie, or assorted t-shirts? Damn straight I do but I'm apathetic with the Chiefs right now...and that Adam is probably why readership might be down.

Just like society you have a lot of middle of the roaders and some crazy fringe players. Well my friends (ha!) we are those fringe players and when the Chiefs turn it around people will come running to get back on the wagon. Good thing our seat is up front whipping the coaches, players, and main stream media to stay in line. Keep up the important work (that last part was for the part of Adam that tucks his dong between his legs like Buffalo Bill)!

"There’s no reason to just think this is the way to do things simply because the Chiefs have never done things this way before. "

"And if they’ve left, screw ‘em — they weren’t real fans anyway. Sick of these second team scumbags."

That's the resounding truth in this piece for me. Come what may, I will continue to love the Chiefs. And part of that love is coming to THIS site and hearing my other brothers in arms, vent about the powers that be destroying what we hold so dear. If you have 10 readers or 10,000, keep doing what you do. The real fans are still here.

And Sports Doc what was your first clue that Whitlock could "...possibly (have) an ego problem"? Talk about profound understatements. The fact that he is a "powerful force" in sports journalism would only make me more determined to let him know what I think of him. The Jeff George stuff is freakin priceless.

"you can’t change your tune to give them happy horseshit because that’s Bob Gretz’s job." That is painful (I love ya Gretz) but oh so true.

Stay the course Adam. Springfield's most obnoxious Chiefs fan loves what you do!!!

Adam,

In regards to the drafting...you might be right, but you also might be wrong. After all, who knows what really happens behind closed doors and in the war room? There can be speculation, and will always be, but final product has to be a ruling stick. And his drafts have been pretty good. I love Bowe and Pollard especially. I don't know maybe all of this just looks good because Vermeil couldn't draft his way out of a wet paper sack. Maybe it's relative. I can't figure it, but you have convinced me that Herm would not be a viable option at DC. He would end up getting pissed at BC and CG for scoring too fast.

"You guys are tiring my D out, let's mix a few runs up the middle in there, come on guys. You act like you've never played this game before."

Definately NOT Harm at DC...I dont think he could coordinate a field trip to laser tag...

The scout (sleeping) rumor...I don't know about it (not likely) but it could be true (places tongue in cheek.) After all, what is it Herm says about prospects like, 3/4 of the time: "He's a winner, you can look at his record. He knows how to win." Well maybe Herm watches the tape to make sure the player in question actually PLAYS the sport and then just looks at the record: "Wow, he won 14 games last year? That's as many as my last 3 seasons combined..."

But no, if Herm isn't head coach he won't be with the team at all...just doesnt really happen...(Gunther even left and waited to come back)

Red Dragon,

A couple of things here.

First off, in my opinion, this Herm-can-draft thing is a farce. I've read where a member of another team's front office, unidentified of course, said he couldn't believe Herm wanted to be a GM because Herm can't "keep his eyes open for 15 minutes" while watching tape on prospects. He's also a defensive coach, but the only thing that's been picked well under him is defensive backs. Offensively, Bill Kuharich is the guy who found Jake Delhomme. I'm pretty sure he found Tyler as well and that D-Bowe was just a no-brainer. After Justin Harrell (who I liked a lot), Bowe was second on my list. Third if you count Brady Quinn.

As for defensive coordinator, I just don't see it. Right now we have the 32nd-ranked defense in the league. The only things I can really see Herm as -- well, besides buying the color commentary guy during game broadcasts maybe -- are scout and defensive backs coach.

I think this thing where Chiefs Nation has been sold Herm the Draft Evaluator as a product has a lot to do with why his approval rating hasn't crashed. The fact of the matter is, he hasn't even drafted that well, especially up front defensively.

Do no Harm!

If he wants to stay, he can stay as a D-backs coach or a scout. Not my call, but that would be my call if it was.
