The Resurgence

It is coming. It is undeniable. It is unstoppable.

The plays being called are getting smarter each week and each week the players are getting better at executing them. Tyler Thigpen improves each time he steps onto the field and is now playing about as well as any QB in the league. The offensive line is starting to stand its ground, especially with pass blocking. The defensive line, though battered, is containing the run, getting penetration, pressuring the opposing QB, and making key stops late in the game. Our beleaguered backers and secondary are sniffing out the play and stopping it.  Marquee Mark Bradley proves himself over and over in the clutch as a true #2, if not #1 WR. Guys who nobody even heard of a week ago are coming in and showing up big time against big-time teams.

Riddle me this – are the patchwork Chiefs playing better because of the way they are being coached or in spite of it?

Yeah, we’re 1-8. With one or two exceptions, we have faced some the toughest teams this league has to offer. So yeah, that has made it a pretty tough row to hoe for a beat up, sometimes distracted, youthful team. And yet still, four of those eight losses were decided at the very end of the game or in overtime. Beaten perhaps, but standing to the end.

From here on out, I say woe is the team that looks forward to having an easy day of it with the Chiefs.

Soon it will arrive. It is just about here. It will stand. It will not look back.

I know it. You know it.

GO CHIEFS!!!

IM with you D2, all the way. These guys are getting hungry. I say its despite the coaching but we will see. I though thte schedule was fairly tame when I first saw it but its turned out to be pretty damn tough. Great article. Two things the Chiefs fans need, DOUBLE D on AA and all those DOUBLE D’s dancing on the sidelines!

DD, I think you may be overrated Bradley, but we are on a similar page. We are playing much better than our record. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the season holds.

  4. Randy says:

It will be vrey intersting to see how durable he turns out to be.

Merlin – one thing you’ve got to say about Gonz, Bowe, Bradley, Thigpen and the Chiefs in general right now is that they’re making Sundays something we can actually look forward to. We haven’t had that around here in awhile.

  6. Double D says:

goshooter – Wade Smith will start at RG.

  7. Randy says:

Its actually becoming the loudest stadium in the NFL again. Will be interesting to see how LJ likes blocking and short passes

    DD:

Very true. I just don’t want to jump on the Bradley and Thigpen bandwagons. I have been very happy with their play. Bradley may be a legit number two. Time will tell. Thigpen has a lot more work to do to nail down the starting QB job for next year.

  9. goshootergo says:

thanks DD! i looked up Wade smith, he kinda light for gaurd (296lbs)! We need Herman Johnson from LSU hes 6-7 360lbs. We have zero drive on run blocking. The DLinemen are just too big these days to have some Olinemen, like we do!

  10. We are getting better and it is exciting. O should do well this week, but D is in some trouble.

    GO CHIEFS!

    Mark Bradley is not overrated.

Glad to see him here, especially since we may lose Gonzo next year.

    go

I think that kind of depends on what type of offense you’re running. A light OL is pretty much the way to go if you’re using a ZBS like Denver and Houston do. And speaking of Denver and the ZBS, let’s just hope that LJ never, ever ends up there – he is above all a zone runner and putting him behind a ZBS would be an absolute nightmare for us and everybody else that had to face them.

Our offense and offensive line seems to be evolving. I’m seeing our guards pulling and stunting more now that we’re implementing stuff like the spread, the option, bootlegs, etc. I am actually not too worried about Smith coming for Jones – i.e., I can’t see there being much, if any, of a drop off there. The biggest question for me right now is how LJ is going to fit into this new offense. Hopefully we can use him in a way that’s similar to what KU was able to do with McAnderson.

As far as draft picks go, I’d prefer Mack or Robinson over Johnson personally. The guy from LSU that interests me the most right now is DE Tyson Jackson. It would be interesting to put him back alongside his old teammate (Dorsey) and see what happens . . .

  12. Randy says:

LJ plus Zone Blocking Scheme = nightmare scenerio’s for opposing defenses

  13. Randy says:

LJ will get sulled up on the sideline if the offense is too pass happy and spread out.
My guess is Herm will try to balance it which should be a good thing. The threat of LJ up the gut should open things up

  14. Randy says:

And conversely, if the offense has some passing success spreading the defense out, that could open up some holes for LJ. Just my thoughts.

  15. Dr. Paine says:

LJ hasn’t had a legitimate QB handing it off since Trent Green. The threat of the pass will inevitablly open up the run. The last two years, every time LJ is in the game, the box is stacked every time. With Thiggy starting to become a threat, I expect more lanes for LJ and the safety out of the box. The play action bootleg could be deadly with LJ in the backfield if the defense wants to overplay the run. McKenzie is out for NO, so that should help too.

    I’m alive…

Marquee Mark Bradley…I like it…I don’t think ur over rating him…he was a second rounder, just has to stay healthy…that and Chicago wouldn’t know a good reciever from their asses…

I’ll return soon…ISP will be called ASAP

  17. Randy says:

    WOODSTER

  18. lobo48 says:

Great article DD. I like Bradley also and am anxious to see Franklin and/or Kevin Robinson out there for a speed threat. Hopefully LJ will come back with some determination to make up for letting the team and us fans down earlier. If he is ready to play; the formations we are running will keep defenses from stacking the box on us and should open up some holes for our running backs. While I really like Charles and Savage; neither one is as powerful as the Ironman especially if he is playing a little angry. It is really nice to look forward to the game on Sunday again and will be even better when we win!

    GO CHIEFS!!
