If the decision had to be made today, I’d go with Thigpen as the starter, bring in a veteran, and then draft a mid to late round QB. “Trig” Stafford certainly does not merit a 1st round pick nor does any other Sr/Jr QB for that matter. If Sam Bradford comes out then I might have to pause and say maybe.
For now, we have the luxury of letting it play out and seeing where it goes.
Adam, you suggest the injury problem is due to improper conditioning? What information are you basing that on? Generally speaking, it is not unusual for injury problems to start snowballing if guys start dropping predominantly on one side of the ball (like we’re seeing on defense). What that does is force the erstwhile back-ups to take on even more practice reps than the starters would have to against regular starters which in turn leads to those same back-ups getting even more beat up and worn out. I am not aware of anything that leads me to believe that is improper conditioning is the culprit (although it may be). Rather, I’d say we’re more likely in “vicious cycle mode” right now.
I also say big props to all those “nobody’s” who’ve been keeping us in games of late. The experience they’re getting and intensity they’re bringing will pay dividends down the road.

News 3 has learned that former Western Michigan All-American Jason Babin will sign a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs today. The Paw Paw native was released by the Seattle Seahawks September 17th, just over a year after being acquired in a trade with the Houston Texans.
A number of teams showed interest in Babin, including the 9-0 Tennessee Titans, but ultimately the Kansas City deal gives him an opportunity to play right away and hopefully secure a long term deal for 2009. The former first round draft pick registered a career high five sacks in 2006, but never saw significant playing time with Seattle and was deemed expendable.
Babin is the only first round draft pick in WMU history. Houston selected him with the 27th overall pick in 2004. His first game in a Chiefs uniform could be this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
Chiefs placed rookie DE Brian Johnston (calf) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Johnston, a seventh-round draft pick, was used some as a situational pass rusher in his first season. He figures to be on the roster again in 2009.

QB stability is one thing, DD. Coaching stability is another (lovin’ Mike Smith so far). Additionally, a GM with mental stability (c’mon, we all know that Carl has a narcissistic personality disorder) would help. Pass rushing stability (John Abraham)? Plus, they have a MLB, and that makes a huge difference as well. There are a whole lot of reasons, basically.
I’m not one to jump on the “fire Herm” bandwagon just yet, but I do think that when the chips fall at the end of the season, we will be cleaning house. This business is about winning, period. 1-18 in 19 games is simply unacceptable. His players fight for him and love the guy to death, but it’s time for a change. Tony Sparano and Mike Smith took over some pathetic teams and with the assistance of mentally stable management, have righted the ship. It will be good to give another coach a crack at it. Then again, I think Clark and Herm have enough of a rapport that Herm will get a get out of jail free for this year considering the injuries (may or may not be conditioning) and youth movement. Hopefully Clark wants to spend some cash in the offseason, there are some decent FA’s coming free and we’re boko bucks under the cap….
Excellent Fox Sports article A-Train, got some good feedback already posted I see. Dont get to big for AA! Elvis never got too big for Memphis.

November 12th, 2008 at 1:22 pmCould Atlanta’s success as compared to the Chiefs have anything to do with respective stability at QB? Maybe?

Jason Babin huh? Babin replacing Johnston sounds to me like a positive move . . .
November 12th, 2008 at 2:41 pmPretty wierd how Seattle handled him imo.

November 13th, 2008 at 7:05 pmBabin, except in certain quarters of the deep South. That Babin pic might be outdated, so he might be going with the sweep-over ‘do now, too.
