Stray Arrows: Skins Go The Hall Way

AUTHOR: Adam Best | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: 17 Comments

Sorry, Chiefs fans. 55 percent of us wanted him, the other 45 didn’t, but none of that matters because DeAngelo Hall has signed with the Redskins. $39 million under the cap and we can’t spare half a mil to give a young Pro Bowl corner a half-season audition? Today we are back to being the Cheaps. From Riggo’s Rag:

The contract is reportedly short term, lasting only for the remainder of this year and only pays him the pro-rated amount of the 1 million he would have gotten this year (excluding the massive signing bonus) had he not been cut.  This means that for under a half million we get a former two-time 24 year old pro-bowler who’s also good at returning punts. There’s no down side to this deal.  It’s a low-risk high-reward chance that will add depth at corner and on special teams and costs the Redskins next to nothing.

Addicts, did we screw up by not signing Hall?

he will finish out the year and then he will go sign a huge contract and he will want out of it or the team will want him gone before the contract is up

  2. Ian316 says:

why do you want to fill the team with hoodlems Adam? Vick? Hall? does character mean anything to you?

  3. Ian316 says:

I will give you that if Hall fines the right team maybe like the Redskins, who knows maybe winning will change his horrible idea but still i laugh at the idea of Vick, honestly he is a good runner but an average to below average passer

  4. Ian316 says:

    finds*

  5. Adam Best says:

Vick is not an average-to-below passer. He took the Falcons further than any Chiefs’ QB not named Dawson or Montana ever has.

As for Hall, he’s not a hoodlum at all. He got into it with Petrino, but the whole damn team did. Petrino is an idiot. Why does everybody think he’s such a hoodlum? HE HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY TROUBLE WITH THE LAW OR THE LEAGUE! The only thing was his Vick tribute and that was just him being loyal and the league being stupid.

What do I want? I want to win, Ian. I want to win. And it’s not like we’ve been devoid of hoodlums anyway during the Peterson era.

  6. Adam Best says:

And a quadruple comment? Even I haven’t gone there too many times…lol…

  7. Gump says:

I’m glad we didn’t sign hall. He has been burned and abused all season so far. If he were one of our draft choices or a FA signee folks on here would want him run out of town, Carl fired, Herm fired, etc…

I remember the Ty Law saga, no more I say.

  8. Adam Best says:

Ty Law was also old enough to be Hall’s dad.

  9. chiefzilla says:

    1) he’s expensive
    2) the Chiefs have stayed together b/c Herm has brought in high character players
    3) what does it say to the players when the team suspends LJ for poor locker room conduct, then signs a guy notorious for doing the same?

This guy has a terrible attitude and it often affects how he plays. He is notorious for completely imploding mentally when he gets beat once by a good receiver. He is known for blowing up at officials in the middle of the game–his stupidity once led to three 15-yard penalties in one game b/c he couldn’t keep his mouth shut. He has publicly criticized his front office and coaching staff, which is something that leaders simply do not do. The Falcons were glad to be rid of him and don’t want him back.

Whether you hate Carl or Herm, this is a time when the #1 priority is to get our kids confident and motivated, and you do that by making them confident in their coaches, prideful of their team, and by recruiting good character guys with great leadership ability who will constantly challenge each other to be better. LJ isn’t one of those guys, and we saw what a mistake that was. Hall isn’t either.

Maybe in a few years. But for now, Hall would be a huge wrecking ball to the locker room they’ve built.

  10. Adam Best says:

Yep, we’re 1-7, but at least Herm is holding the team together! What a swell fella!

And we need to take a wrecking ball to about half of our locker room if not more, and because of talent, not attitude.

  11. MasterBlaster says:

I woulda paid 500k to see if we could get a 3rd potential lock down cornerback.

It isnt like we are gona have 3000 draft picks like we did last season. We gota snatch opportunity to fill holes when we can. Its gona be 2020 before we fill all the chiefs holes at this rate.

  12. woody says:

Whats up boys? I am not sure if the site has been messing up for me or what, I think it is that I was using old school Internet Explorer and am now on Firefox…we’ll see…Either way, I am back (potentially)…

I am glad we didn’t sign Hall…I would not have cared either way really if we had done it, but I like the way our corners are going….

I sent an Email to Dr. Z today from SI…He made a comment about the Chiefs playing really hard but being hopeless in his article and I disagreed. I know his point is that this season we have no hope but I wanted to make sure he realizes that this team has a future and we are young and gonna be fearsome one day…without a doubt…

    glad to be back (potentially)

  13. Ian316 says:

I really think he is an over rated passer. He never had a completion % of over 56% never ever passed for over 3000 yards, and finished a year with a qb rating over 80 once, and he got to 81. 2 passer rating, he is extremely over rated as a passer thank you very much

  14. Adam Best says:

    Master,

I agree. I said the same thing about Jared Gaither when he was in the supplemental draft two years back. He is now the Ravens starting LT. If we had of jumped on that opportunity, we could have picked Flacco instead of Albert (who I like, but that isn’t the point) and we would be much further along now. My whole point is for a team struggling to field talent, we have to jump at every freebie chance to grab a talented player we get. Especially when we have so much money.

  15. Adam Best says:

Woody, we were testing a new affiliate banner for Yard Barker and it was jacking up IE. Should be fixed now, but we are glad to have you back and apologize for the issues.

And you always have good points, but there is doubt that we will one day be fearsome despite some promise. Harm casts a huge, gloomy shadow of doubt over this franchise. Everybody outside of K.C. sees it, but all of those involved with the Chiefs refuse to.

I’m not going to stop beating this horse until it’s deader than the Godfather, i.e. Herm gets canned. I had to do the same thing with Brodie, but I think it prepared people for what I knew was inevitable — failure.

  16. Adam Best says:

    Ian,

You didn’t answer my statement. What matters more: Stats or results? I’ll take Vick’s NFC Championship appearance over Trent Green’s gawdy passing stats any day of the week. So, no, thank you very much :)

  17. Ian316 says:

what matters to me is not having bad publicity following the team where ever we go, obviously character means nothing to you, he IS extremely over rated and it doesn’t matter you won’t get your wish If and When he does come back he won’t come here i guarantee it, so keep dreaming to have your kc chiefs full of thugs and bad character guys there’s more to football than just athleticism, and this guy will bring our team nothing but trouble so when it is all said and done i bet money that the reason that he won’t get signed here is just the reason I am talking about : )
