The Jets Blog On Tyler Thigpen
Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog, one of our favorite bloggers, was nice enough to offer up a few comments on Tyler Thigpen after Sunday’s Chiefs-Jets game. Here’s what he had to say:
I have to say that I walked away from the game impressed that he carried as much of the load for the Chiefs as he did. With no consistent running game, Thigpen looked comfortable finding the open man, so given some more time under center, I’d like to see what he can do. From talking to the some of the Jets players after the game, they didn’t blame something like a “lack of tape” on not being able to stop him, but credited him for his work. The Jets have a young but talented secondary and I think Thigpen did a good job of finding the open man, but I think the Jets should have brought more consistent pressure up front on Thigpen. There’s no doubt in my mind that Thigpen was the better quarterback Sunday.

My hats off for Thiggy Smalls,,I always thought he had great mobility. Gaileys play calling could of been less conservative, but I thought the QB draw in the 3rd quarter was a good idea had it been devised to roll out instead of up the middle..”what were they thinking?”..Thigpen may not be the QB that Superbowls are won with, but heres a strange idea..Maybe we have been trying to develop the wrong QB the whole time..
October 29th, 2008 at 2:06 amI have to admit I didn’t even know who Thigpen was before this year and when I found out about him I didn’t think he would ever have an oppurtunity to play that much let alone have a game like this one.
I’m just wondering with him looking like our guy for the rest of the year if we are going to see more of a spread style offense somewhat like the ones in college so he has time to make reads and throws. I don’t think it would be a bad idea it would also give a better oppurtunity to evaluate the young wideouts as well to see who can get open and make a big play.
October 29th, 2008 at 6:29 amThe Chiefs are going to run the spread offense against the Bucs, we are DEAD, DEAD I TELL YOU.
October 29th, 2008 at 10:33 amOh GOD we are so screwed
October 29th, 2008 at 10:34 amI’d rather us try to run the spread against the Bucs, especially with Jamaal Charles in. He can really open up some big plays with a few screens and all of the coverage following our receivers. We can’t control a game with our defense well enough to constantly run the ball. We did have 3 interceptions, but at least 2 of them were in our territory after the Jets dominated us offensively.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:30 amI don’t know how screwed we really are. Look at our offense and defense compared to the Broncos. They are very similar. Except the simple fact that Jay Cutler has proven he can throw and roll out. Our defense causes turnovers, this is simple and it’s touch and go with the Bucs offense moving the ball. So if our defense stops the run which is a huge question mark and causes one turnover or gets one big stop and we have field position I see this game being very close. But it all depends on what Thigpen shows up. The Bucs are going to play close to our wide outs and be very physical. If Thigpen rolls out and gives himself time to find the open man we could be coming through this with a W. Let’s go D-line and please play like a pro Pat Thomas.
