Seven Up With The Jets Blog

Posted by: Adam Best

Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog–the Arrowhead Addict of the Jets, basically–was nice enough to do a question exchange with me this morning (check out my responses to his questions here). Check out what he had to say about our Chiefs and his Jets:

1. On a scale of one to 10 how much do Jets fans miss Herm Edwards?

TJB: One being miss a lot and ten being miss him very much? Simple math. Take the total number of fans at the 2006 Draft who booed him while he was on TV (214) and then divide the total number of playoff wins Herm led the Jets to (2) then add the number of times he denied leaving the Jets for the Chiefs (infinity).

2. Chiefs fans still have mad love for Tony Richardson. How has T-Rich worked out for the Jets?

TJB: Richardson has had a quiet season, but he’s been instrumental in creating holes for the running backs. With a bunch of personnel, the running game is still figuring itself out, but Richardson has been a help both on and off the field.

3. Your starting receivers are pretty banged up. That being said, how much of ex-Mizzou star Brad Smith are we going to see?

TJB: Coles says he’s going to play, no word on Cotchery. After a good game last weekend, I’d expect that Smith will see a larger role in Sunday’s game and might even start. Smith is still learning the intracacies of playing receiver, but he’s deadly on reverses or if the offense can create space for him on passing plays.

4. Was the Patriot Act concocted simply to monitor Brett Favre’s calls? What is going on there? Getting a bit ridiculous, eh?

TJB: It is ridiculous, but he’s Brett Favre so he’s going to get this type of attention. Many players and former players have come out and defended him saying that shoptalk is pretty common. Despite some of his numbers, Favre still needs to make a lot of improvement in this offense, so he needs to focus on business rather than shooting off his mouth to other teams.

5. One under-the-radar Jets player who will open some eyes come Sunday among Chiefs fans?

TJB: Dwight Lowery (AKA Dwight Swipe), rookie CB from San Jose State. Lowery had bad times in his 40 yard dash at the Combine and was downgraded severely because of it. The Jets got Lowery in the 4th round and he has turned into the starter opposite the up and coming Darrelle Revis. Lowery won’t make every play, but he’s got a great ability to defend passes (8 so far) and hits well (1 forced fumble). He’s still learning and teams are picking on him, but he’s a decent second corner.

6. Lastly, don’t you owe us some mercy after Bernard Pollard took out Tom Brady for the season?

TJB: I think that’s only fair. Regardless of whether the Jets have a good or bad season, there’s something to be said for having to deal with Brady’s toothy golden boy “aww shucks” persona. It’s been quite refreshing to say the least.

7. What’s your prediction for Sunday’s game?

TJB: If the Chiefs had Larry Johnson activated, I would say that anything can happen, as the Chiefs so eloquently proved to the Broncos a few weeks back. But without him, and with the Jets in a “back to the wall” situation right now and playing at home. I think the Jets should win easily. The Jets should be able to neutralize both the offense and defense of the Chiefs. Here’s what I will predict: if the Jets lose, I’ll start the petition to fire Eric Mangini.

Thanks, Brian. Great stuff as always! For more Jets coverage visit TJB or our sister site The J-E-T Press.

I generally get bored when reading football blogs, but to me Arrowhead Addict is different. It’s the first site I check each day. I like the interaction with the opponents blog sites … but mostly, i appreciate the hilarious photoshopped pics and the commentary on the soul of Chiefs Nation … keep up the good work guys.
