Besides, say what you will about him, Carl Peterson has been at this long enough to know that trading down out the top 5 is near impossible. If we do end up picking in the top 5, the best picks available will most likely be defensive guys - MLB, OLB, or DE. I'm talking about Herm and Carl wanting the first or second pick. That doesn't mean they will take it. A second coming of a mixture of Brady, Montana, Aikmen and Marino could be sitting at spot number 2 and Carl will trade down and let someone else have him for a shot at a few more busts in his drafting resume. They are wanting to lose out, get the highest pick possible and then trade it out for more picks. If this is not the case I am totally amazed because this is the most pathetic ball club I have ever seen. The raiders and lions have been pitiful but at least they are acting on the horribleness and trying to find someone with the right fit. No team in its right mind seeks to be in that group because those picks are both expensive and risky which it makes it nearly impossible to trade down for additional picks. Big name college standouts are the ones most likely to turn into big time rookie holdouts. Value and extra picks win out just about every time.
