Merlin's Magic Week Five

A Thud and a Crack

On Sunday, I heard a thud and a crack. The thud was our young team descending back to pathetic status. The crack was the ice under the current regime’s feet. I would do an autopsy, but I am not sure there is enough remaining for a DNA match. My only comment is that the current regime doesn’t have very many of these performances left or they will be heading to the exits. I am talking about after the season, not during.

Other Notes:

Just because Tony Gonzalez has the important TE records does not make him the greatest of all time. Just the same way that Emmit Smith is not better than Walter Peyton because he has more yardage, Tony is not the best because he has more receiving yards than any other TE. IMO, Tony belongs in the conversation as ONE of the best TE’s every to play the game. Is he the best? Maybe, you can make a case for him, Kellen Winslow, Ozzie Newsome, Mike Ditka and a Raider TE not to be named. I really don’t consider Shannon Sharpe a TE since the only blocks he had were the ones he played with as a kid.

Draft Watch:

Right now, we are still looking at QB, MLB and rush DE as our first round needs. We should know about QB before the year’s out. StevenH talked about rush DE in the first round. It’s certainly a possibility. Pass rushers are at a premium come draft time. We look to be heading towards a top ten pick. I am still open to any of those three positions at this point. We need some of our current Chiefs to step up and let us focus on fewer needs.

Fantasy Notes:

The Bears got back on the winning track after enduring a big game from Reggie Bush. He must have read my comments on him not living up to his hype.

Poor Playaction31, his team has run up 420 points, yet is 1-4. On the other side, FrayedKnots has scored 404 points and is 4-1. Go figure.

Does anyone have a butter churn to donate? It would make a great gift for the team that has the most roster moves. Right now, AsylumAddicts has churned into the lead with 29 transactions. Come on, Lobo, someone is not trying. (just kidding)

Merlin – think thing you said that I liked the most was “We need some of our current Chiefs to step up and let us focus on fewer needs.”

For the draft we need QB, MLB, and O-Line – but it pisses me off that we are even talking about it this early!

And yes, what a year for me with fantasy – I still feel like I can turn it around though. It’s not like my team sucks.

    Dave:
O-line is a need, but our needs there are not usually first round needs. I could see a RT or RG in rounds 2 or 3.

  3. Sudden says:

Excellent point on how Tony’s trifecta of TE Receiving records doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s the best ever. The Emmit Smith analogy was the perfect point. But I still think Tony is the first in the conversation. Part of one of the best O-Lines ever, trifecta of receiving records, and all of it without ever having a marquis QB. The longevity and consistency of Tony Gonzales is unrivaled by any TE in history.

And regarding you point about Shannon Sharpe and blocks… I think he still plays with those blocks.

  4. the hammer formerly known as g.l. says:

Just a few points. Tony Gonzalez is THE best tight end ever to play the position, bar none. Shannon Sharpe pays people to play with the blocks for him. They have three eight hour shifts, 24/7. Mr. Sharpe still cannot speak intelligibly. This last fact is probably just as well, because I really don’t want to hear anything he has to say, anyway.

  5. BOOO THIS MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    TONY G IS THE SH#T

    How dare you!!!!!!!!!

<———–PDGFFP (Pretty Damn Good Fantasy Football Player). Tough league though..no doubt! Ack, almost sounded like Hermie. TG is for me the greatest and I will agree with what you said as far as our needs go come the draft.

We may see one more win this year just depends on Croyle IMO. I do predict with the D the Titans have and Sackintosh on the right that Croyle will at some point in the game LEAVE.

I am still pissed off that we have passed on other potential QB’s…To name a few. Simms (at least he has it in his blood), Quinn (which they really weren’t wanting to deal), Byron (would have been excellent as he at the very least can take a few hits as we know none of the QB’s we have can) etc..

Anywho’s I am still bummed out for the bye weekend even if the Chiefs lose I still LOVE em and watching them. Leaves me to just cross my fingers that the rest of our Division loses.

Off to check my FF muahahah
