Whitlock Piggybacks On A.A.

AUTHOR: Adam Best | IN: Chiefs | COMMENTS: 21 Comments

Either Jason Whitlock reads the Addict, watches the NFL Network or this is just a helluva coincidence. From FOX Sports:

5. The wrestling match for Bill Cowher better include the Kansas City Chiefs.

There are already rumors that the Browns have interest in the former Pittsburgh head coach who now works on CBS’s studio show.

This is the second year of Cowher’s “retirement.” I don’t see it lasting a third season. Kansas City is the ideal location for Cowher to return. The Chiefs have a general manager/president, Carl Peterson, who needs to be removed and a head coach, Herm Edwards, who foolishly jumped on Peterson’s sinking ship and decided to build a lifeboat (rebuilding) three years after taking the captain’s chair.

Cowher worked in Kansas City under Marty Schottenheimer. The Chiefs are renovating their stadium and are losing season-ticket holders as you read this. Cowher would inject some life into the franchise and fill the new stadium while the team recovers from Peterson’s incompetence.

Cowher is a perfect fit for Kansas City.

Glad to have you on board, Big Sexy, even if you did piggyback onto our idea (minus the Vick). Getting this out there in the MSM certainly can’t hurt its chances of coming into fruition.

I don’t mean to rain on everyone’s parade, but where has it been stated or printed in the past … year that Cowher is even entertaining the idea of coaching? I might have missed it if he said he was job hunting. I thought he gave up coaching so he could be closer to his family. I could be completely wrong on this, if so, please correct me, and I’ll apologize.

  2. Adam says:

I think that had something to do with watching his daughter play high school basketball. We need to investigate this. But, if you ask me, his retirement is about like Jay-Z’s.

  3. woody says:

He has told people that he would remain retired until his daughter graduates…Which I think she will this year and then he said he would think about what to do next. He also has said that there are only 3 places he would want to coach, Cleveland, KC, and somewhere else…i dont remember where…unfortunately…

Honestly, just watching Cowher on CBS when he gets worked up about teams he really looks like he wants to be in there again…he would make us an amazingly physical team…make us respectable again…

  4. Adam says:

That’s what I thought, woody–thanks! He also is a defensive-minded coach who has some ingenuity when it comes to offense.

  5. JASON says:

man if he would only get on the vick wagon too….

  6. JASON says:

i love how cowher isnt skeered to let the O do what needs to be done to win the game, and for the last couple of days ive had trouble posting, so to the guy who said cowher got “lucky” with ben to win a SB. what about the SB they lost and the AFC champ his team lost? he always has the players hyped and ready. i feel as though he does it some by intimidation, which def. isnt one of herms strong suits, motivation and intimidation go A LONG way toward making a team play well TACKLE WELL and win IMO

I couldn’t stand Ron Mexico before the dog fighting. I’ll hate having to root for him.

  8. Whir says:

Thanks for the details woody. I guess I didn’t realize the timing of his daughter’s graduation and all. I understand the interest after knowing that. It would certainly be an interesting move. But ultimately, I think the fate of Carl Peterson needs to be decided before any coaching changes are made. Of course, maybe it wouldn’t matter if Cowher had unlimited power in the overall decisions regarding the football team. It’s pretty cool to hear that Cowher would pick KC as a possibility though.

  9. admsantos says:

Ya we don’t need Vick. He couldn’t throw before he went to the pen. Do you think he has improved since being there? Highly doubtful. First put together a line that can actually protect a quarterback plus a running back that doesn’t whiff on blocks. Probably would make it way easire for the guys we have now to complete a pass

  10. randy5k says:

first of all Im extremely offended at your reference to the Heavens gate tragedy and the link to the Chiefs, IM YANKING IT HAHAHAHHAHAH !!! Yes we ned Bill C.

  11. xxxlp says:

To think that he piggybacked on AA is kind of ego-maniacal, don’t you think? I mean Cowher has said… ON AIR, LIVE TELEVISION, PRIMETIME MEDIA, other fitting adjectives, etc etc. that he loved KC, and wouldn’t mind going back there. He wouldn’t say at the time I watched him, where/when he’d end up coaching, if he even did go back to coaching. It was all still in the air at that point. But since then, he’s hinted at wanting to go back, and if you’d watch the half-time shows and whatnot with him on it, the way he looks during the highlights.. he wants to be on a field somewhere. He’s also said before he narrowed his choices down to a few places, and KC WAS one of them.

Doesn’t make Whitlock a genuis, nor a piggybacker. It’s simply stating the obvious… something he excels at.

I wouldn’t mind bringing Cowher in. He’s a good coach, even though it took him awhile to win a ring, he’s always fielded competitive teams. If you look back at most of his losses, or when his teams were ‘crappy’. They always did a few things right, tackling, and running the ball, namely.

If we’re going to lose, I’d rather have us lose 35-34 every game, than 35-10. The joy (and shackle) of still getting a high pick, with the fact that our young players are still competitive, still IN games, mentally. That’s the important thing.

  12. woody says:

Thanks fellows…but dont hold me to that graduating thing, I BELIEVE that to be true…and I have heard it somewhere…maybe we should get Peter King on this…he is always good…haha

xxxlp thanks for confirming some of my stuff, i felt a little corroborated thurr…

The ONLY down side I see in it is the switch the the 3-4, which, ideally would be a pretty seamless deal, but I think realistically it might take a bit…

What do you think he would do with Tamba? Too small for a 3-4 end, too slow for an OLB…

  13. Clyde says:

    re: Cowher to KC

Can one person provide a link for the Cowher to KC rumors? I’ve heard the rumors that the fans have generated (haha, and not AA, Adam, but nice try :) ) over the past two years and have still been unable for anyone to provide a link that clearly shows Cowher saying he wouldn’t mind coming back to KC to coach.

Woody, do you have a link to confirm the “Cleveland, KC” rumors?

re: Michael Vick – Simply put, Michael Vick is not a good NFL quarterback. He would be an absolute disaster in Kansas City.

Adam, the guy as a QB wasn’t good in any respects when he was on the field. He’s never completed close to 60% of his passes, never hit 3,000 yards but led the league in fumbles on a regular basis. Maybe we aren’t seeing the same thing? And that’s before he was out of football for 2 years. Plus, Goodell could keep him out even longer. Do you honestly believe that Vick would be a good fit here? (emphasize the word honestly).

  14. xxxlp says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Vick as a Chief.. as a WR, or an H-Back in the backfield. We could involve him in all kinds of things. If we had to.. Damon (or whoever would be starting at that point, I’m just naming our current starter) could throw a pitch/toss to him, and Vick could then run or throw it if someone is open. That’d scare alot of coordinators. He IS feared by DC’s, (and dogs,) but just not namely for his passing ability. If we could utilize his YAC/scrambling ability, and still not make him a starting QB, I could see that working out. As soon as we name him a starting QB (which I see as ridiculous) tons of fans will revolt. We’d also have PETA all over our asses. That’s lame. I haven’t been to a Chiefs game thus far, but if I do go to one soon (hopefully,) I don’t want to hear PETA outside chanting for Vick to be released, etc etc.

Clyde, if memory serves, he said it on NFL Total Access. It could be the wrong show, but I know he said it on the NFL Network (pretty much all I watch, with only a few exceptions.) It’s been awhile though. I doubt anyone has a link to a video showing him saying it, but it may be dug out of the vaults after a bit, if our team tanks the rest of this season, NFL Network will be playing Cowher saying something, and building up hype, ‘Oh, where is he going? To the lowly Chiefs? Or to another team that could possibly contend? Stay tuned to find out.’ type of thing. Like I said, it’s been awhile, but I distinctly remember hearing it, because I thought at the time, hmm.. that wouldn’t be so bad, and I even brought up the 3-4 in a post that was posted aaaaaaages ago.

  15. Clyde says:

    Word. Thanks xxxlp.

I keep hearing that trade rumor but with verification.

re: Vick – Would bringing him in as a gadget-play guy be worth the PR hit? And isn’t he under contract with the Falcons? I thought they had him on the non football related/reserve list or whatever its called.

  16. JASON says:

i feel as though we need to rid ourselves of herm NO MATTER WHAT adam wheres your resume??

  17. ArowhedKC says:

Adam’s resume now features Jabba the Whitlock as a reference.

  18. Adam says:

xxxlp, this whole post was pretty tongue in cheek. Lots of people have this idea, so…we just like poking fun at Whitlock. But at the same time, I’m pretty sure he heard about the whole Cowher-Vick thing, but maybe not?

Jason, Zach’s the coach, not me. I’m trying to be the hatchet man, not the replacement.

ArowhedKC, not sure that’s a good thing :)

  19. ROC27 says:

I think that we should change the Vick-Cowher campaign to the Schottenheimer- Cowher Campaign. I know Vick would be better than what we have now, but I wouldnt count on the Chiefs picking up Michael Vick. Actually I HIGHLY doubt it.

But How amazing would it be to have Marty as our GM and Cowher as our Head Coach. Now THATS something to campaign for.

  20. Adam says:

That was profound, Jason. Very deep…lol…
