Pulling The Plug

by Chiefs

Man it’s tough to be a Chiefs fan these days. Knowing full well that we have absolutely no chance to win AT HOME against the Broncos next week. But hey, it’s not called re-building for nothing, so I guess we’re going to have to just suck it up and hope for better days. Right?

Obviously that’s exactly what Herm Edwards and Carl Peterson want us to believe. They want us to keep rolling out the cash to buy up the tickets, the $8.00 beers, and the $20.00 parking fees, because at the end of the day, if they keep bringing in the change for the Hunt family vault, the team can lose 15 games a year for the foreseeable future.

But if you’re like me, you quickly shouted “WRONG!!” back at your computer screen, instead of just going with the flow like Herm and Carl want us to do. They want us to be quiet and patient while they promise us the world, but the time has come for us to do the exact opposite in my opinion.

We need to push back in the only way we can: with our checkbooks. We can keep dragging this thing out by continuing to subsidize the Carl Peterson 25 year plan with our tickets, merchandise, and concession money, or we can pressure Clark Hunt into making a move by the end of the season at the latest.

Don’t get me wrong. I love watching games from the friendly confines of Arrowhead just as much as the next guy. And if I hadn’t already purchased tickets to the Titans game in October, I definitely would be staying at home listening to Len and Mitch broadcast the games for the rest of the season. But that being said, you can bet that I won’t be spending a dime more than I have to when I do go to the game, because like most of you, I’m fed up with this crap being force fed down our throats each week when the Chiefs take the field.

Here’s a few of the things that I think the team has to change IMMEDIATELY if they want to have any fans left in the stadium at the end of the season:

  • The ridiculous quarterback carousel that spins around each week like a cheap slot machine, and then spits out another piece of trash that’s trotted out on the field like a lamb led to slaughter. By the way, Old Man River’s back this week in place of Twigpen, as if that’s going to change the outcome of Sunday’s game in any way.
  • McSack playing the role of matador every week, standing around and watching while opposing DEs run right by him and break every bone in our QB’s body. Why in God’s name is he still on this team?
  • Gunther Cunningham continuing to do anything for the team other then picking up garbage outside the stadium. Seriously, if I have to watch his defense look completely lost on the field while an opposing RB is cruising down field into the end zone, I’m going to shoot him myself.

Obviously there’s a lot more that this team will need to do to finally win a game or two this season, but you got to start somewhere. The time has come to say enough is enough, and make the hard decisions needed to win back the heart of the fans. They can do that by taking a stand against the idiotic playcalling we’re seeing on the sidelines every Sunday; by dumping the cost of tickets, beer, and parking; and by eliminating fat overpaid turds like McSack from our team.

I love this team more than most things in life, but the time has come for the fans to make their voices heard. We cannot sit by and allow incompetency to continue to reign supreme at 1 Arrowhead Drive. The time has come to act and to do it forcefully, by taking away the one thing every business wants and needs:

Our money.

Hold on! I never said they have not been mis-managing the team recently. I disagree over the "for the past 20 years" comment. I mean we were the team to set the record for most consistent trips to the playoffs with Marty at the helm. Of course he has a history of NOT winning in the playoffs, so we never made the final step. The problem started when Gunther became HC after Marty. We have had a mismanaged since then and not before. Maybe Carl does need to go, but I REALLY liked his drafting the last two years. I think he is listening to the other coaches, then his gut before making the final decision on the picks and so far the last two, maybe three drafts have produced some good quality and hopefully hall of fame players. I hate this losing streak as much as anyone, but we have to start over to get to a NE or IND or NY state of mind in the playoffs and winning every year.

Vrod74,

I am with the Chiefs all the way. I am not bailing, not now, not ever. I have been in the stands before when there was no one else there. I will be in the future. If Tony were to say to me that he thought Herm was a good coach, I would say to him what I would say to anyone else. "You gotta be ****TIN' me!" I can't wait until Herm leaves his miserable hands off this team.

I agree, Chris. As fans, our first priority should be watching the backs of our fellow Chiefs fans, not the backs of the fat cat Chiefs' brass or even the players.

Vrod,

No one is down on the players... well other than McSack that is. We're down on a front office that has completely mismanaged this team for the past 20 years and screwed this city out of the championship they deserve.

And by the way bro, feel free to lay off the REAL fan crap. I've been cheering for the Chiefs for the past 25 years of my life and I've given them blood, sweat, tears, and hard work over the past year and a half with my blog, so I think I count as a REAL fan. If anything, my 25 years of being a fan give me more of a right to criticize the management of this team.

God could hit me with a lightening bolt and tell me in his booming voice that Herm was a good coach, yet I still wouldn't believe it. Harm Edwards is a joke--and everyone's laughing but us.

Vrod, I'm right there with you man. Quite literally, I'll be right there with you at the game in SD where our faithful normally come out in force to represent the Chiefs.

Oh and Hammer! If Tony G. thinks Herm is a good coach, then I am sold!

Look. I get it. You, WE, are ALL tired of the losing and the lack of a SB. But our team used to feed off the energy we give off at home games. Do you really want D-Bowe, Swamp Thing, Page, Pollard, J. Charles, Branden Albert, Flowers, Carr-ALL of them looking for another city because when they were down the fans left them. Sounds like fair weather fans to me, sorry. I know they suck right now. But I still believe we have a good core, minus a couple of positions on the RIGHT side of the line and QB. Why would ANY of these 1st and 2nd year players want to stay in KC if the fans bail out now. In punishing the "King" or the Hunts (Which would definitely make Lamar roll over in his grave-a lot more than he has already!), we would REALLY be punishing the young kids on this team. Is this the kind of message we should be sending to THEM? Fuck the coaches and admin staff. I don't watch the games for them. I watch them for our players. How bad would Tony feel? Go to the games, DON'T buy any concessions, but still YELL your asses off for our guys!!! That is the point I was trying to make.

Vrod74,

Herm Edwards couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. I don't for the life of me understand where your assumption that he can comes from. Herm is currently presiding over the longest losing steak in the team's history. He has shown he is by far the worst coach this team has ever had. It is indeed the third game. Will the Chiefs improve? I sincerely hope so. Will they be a good team this year? No. Will Herm EVER be a decent coach in the NFL? Maybe a defensive backfield coach, but he will most certainly never be a competent head coach. To think otherwise is merely delusional folly.

I am going to the Tampa Bay game, because back in July, I bought tickets, expecting a competitive game. But right now, I feel pretty hopeless. They are good seats, and with the price of 2 nights hotel across the street, I'm in over $1,000 and that doesn't include beer and food. Oh and the gas money for the 6 hour round trip. Ouch. Oh well. One day I'll look back on it and laugh. "Remember when ..."

We all want to be loyal, but at what point are we just enabling King Carl as fans? We don't want him saying, oh, well, I can just slap together any shitball team and the fans will still pack the house, wearing their red Chiefs jerseys.

Sometimes it seems that the only thing the Chiefs care about is money. That's why we the fans need to send a message back that the only thing we care about is winning. I'm sick of the Chiefs taking advantage of the league's best fans. They should be ashamed of themselves, especially given the current economic depression we are entering.

I, for one, will probably only be going to one game this season--the Miami Toilet Bowl Game--and that will be to boo Herm one last time before he gets canned. I can't support the way this brass runs it organization. I'll watch and re-watch every single minute of every single game, rooting my ass off, at home, but I won't pad the pockets Clark and Carl until they bring in a legitimate QB.

Nice piece, Chris. We need to stand up as fans and say "the home of the CHEAPS!"

Angry Jesus,

Nice! Glad to see REAL Chiefs fans wanting to go no matter what. If I were living back home I would have season tickets and would NOT miss a game. Love the team and the stadium. So much for us having the loudest stadium. I paid $600 for tickets to see MY Chiefs play against the Bolts! Unless I am dead or in the hospital, I am NOT missing that game! I don't care if they are 0-8!

Yeah why give up a 1st rounder AND two "quality" players for a guy that barely got drafted in the SECOND round? A second and a third plus Damon Huard is all I would even suggest for this trade.

Yes! Take Brohm, but only give up a second rounder. He would be a MUCH better starter now and in the future than our current selection at QB!

ENOUGH!!! You idiots call yourselves CHIEFS FANS?? Come on! It is the third game of the season. Do they problems, yes, but they have the talent, on Defense especially, to get better. Quit blaming Herm and Carl for the players making BAD decisions. Herm can only teach them the right way and from what I have seen of practice film, he is teaching them the right way. He cannot play the games for the them. Is he perfect? HELL NO. But if your REALLY bought into the hype of this season you should not be mad OR suprised about our current record.

And normally I don't defend Adam's guy, but TRADE LJ? Come one. I thought about this and you know what we might get? We MIGHT get a top second rounder. Why? Because of his lack of production thus far, excluding the ATL game of course. Besides, the ONLY way we trade LJ should be if we can definitely get a 1st rounder AND a young STARTING QB! Otherwise that trade makes ABSOLUTELY no sense. I live in San Diego due to the military transplanting me here and I cannot believe the fans are not filling Arrowhead! What have we all of a sudden become a bunch of Charger-like fans that only show up when the damn team is winning a lot? This is ridiculous! I thought you guys were better fans than that!

Off topic, but over at ArrowheadPride someone is suggesting that we should swap first rounders with GB and send them Surtain and Huard for Brohm.

Has losing brought us to the precipice of insanity? Am I the only one that thinks that is a trade that only Matt Millen himself could make? Not that Brohm isn't someone worth looking at, but he's a third stringer (behind the seventh round pick Matt Flynn on the depth chart) and wouldn't muster a single start this year. Giving up a top three pick for a third string rookie QB? WTF?

I'll take youe season tickets. I need 3-4.

Whoever wants to get rid of them, email me at [email protected]

Amen Kolb!

Unfortunately for me I bought into the hype of this season long ago and purchased season tickets. Not only have I deepened the pockets of the Hunt family but I now have to sit in an empty Arrowhead watching the Chiefs stink up the place. Something has got to change and it needs to happen quickly.

I was upset when my wife made me give up my Denver tickets (she is expecting our first baby on Sunday) but after seeing the performance of my beloved team the first three weeks I am glad I don't have to sit in the stands and witness the slaughter in person.

I will be attending each home game starting when the Chiefs play the Titans but I won't be spending one penny inside the stadium. No hotdogs, beers (gasp!) or merchandise purchases from me! I'll take in my allowed 16oz bottle of water and be content and, unless major changes take place, I won't be renewing my season tickets next year.

1. Same old Herm, only a metter of weeks before he fires his OC. Saw this same tired act in New York.
2. Same old Peterson. Can't draft. Thigpen could not QB an arena league team, for that matter neither could Brody.
3. No play-off wins since Joe Montana.
4. No speed on offense. Same old tired playbook.
5. Junior Hunt should cut losses now. Can both of them, trade LJ for picks, and plan for 2010
