- I recorded and skimmed through America’s Game – The Missing Rings: The 1981 San Diego Chargers. Seeing Kellen Winslow (the former MU star, not K2) play with fellow Charger great Dan Fouts really made me feel sorry for Tony Gonzalez. Other than Trent Green‘s four-year run, he’s been stuck with Brodie Croyle, Damon Huard, Elvis Grbac and now Marques Hagans and Tyler Thigpen. Tony G deserves better. He’s the best TE ever (85 more yards and he’ll own all the significant career records), and unlike Shannon Sharpe and Winlsow he didn’t set his records with a Hall of Fame quarterback delivering him the ball. On behalf of the Chiefs, Tony, I apoligize.
- Did anyone else realize that JaMarcus Russell only completed one pass to a wide receiver, Ashley Lelie, last week? I was watching AFC Playbook on the NFLN and they mentioned that. You could see how far out we were playing our corners and how deep we were playing our safeties. With their QB and WRs and our front seven struggling, why not cheat our DBs? Why not make Russell and his struggling wideouts beat us? Chan Gailey has been getting drilled, but Gunther Cunningham deserves his fair share of flak, too. I understand that the defense was worn down, but their struggles can also be attributed to a lack of proper adjustments made by Gun and his staff.
- This “Thigpen is Gannon Like” post about made me snap, too. It’s been a few days, but I still can’t get over how ridiculous it is. Man, if everyone could get up and see the world through Bob Gretz‘s eyes–that is one optimistic dude. I’ll give him that much. – Blog Gretz
- Mike Shannahan might just be a genius. Love the play call last week. Either Jay Cutler completes the pass that just worked and knocks off a superior team sending his confidence through the roof, or Shanny takes the blame for the decision. They couldn’t have stopped the Chargers, so I think it was much smarter than letting a coin flip decide the game. Then again, he’s in a position with Broncos ownership where he can make that kind of a call and not worry about his job security.
