A.A.D.Q.: Mean Spleens And Squished Hush Puppies

Man, poor Turk McBride. A bruised spleen. Holy hell that sounds like it hurts! It’s an organ, for Pete’s sake. First off, get well, Turk. You are one of my favorite Chiefs and a good kid. Hope to see you out there on Sunday. Now, let’s talk other weird, wild football injuries.

The worst I’ve ever heard about was what a defensive end did in a pile the year before I got to Emporia State. Apparently, this tackle cut the crap out of this DE’s knees and damn near took him out–multiple times. They ended up on the bottom of a pile together and the OT was talking smack and trying to gauge his eyes out. The DE’s hand just happens to be in between the OT’s legs, so to get this maniac back and off of him for good he reaches around the guy’s “cup,” grabs one of the twins and squeezes until he “squished it like a soggy Hush Puppy.” Apparently, the OT screamed like a girl in a horror movie getting dismembered by a chainsaw.

Hopefully, you all lived through that.

What is the most bizarre football injury you have ever sustained, witnessed or heard about? Even urban legend flies on this one…

Dude That is the funniest @#$% I have ever heard. My brother played for Highland Junior college and then MU and he has had his nuts squished before. that has never happened to me though.

Nutz, wrong side, I wanted to see Johnston play.

Adam, I didn’t know you attended ESU. Was that before you went to K-state? I was born in Emporia and have lived around the area most of my life. I was shocked to see the name come up on the A.A. site.

Yes, I went there only my freshman year. I got hurt and transferred to K-State. Gotta love the Kansas wind blowing in a mix of Dolly Madison and IBP on a scorching August day!

It’s a little different now. IBP was sold to Tyson in 2003, and as of last year they no longer slaughter cattle there(just process it). I know cause I have worked there 24 years. But since the cattle pens are empty and no longer smell you can catch a whiff of the sewers now…………..maybe even worse..lol. Anyway it’s nice to know that you have been around my old stomping grounds
