A.A.D.Q.: DFS Fans, Where You At?

by AADQ

Just saw an NFL Direct Ticket “Disconnected Fan Syndrome” commercial with the Manning Brothers. Apparently, 50 million die-hard NFL fans live out of their team’s market. As someone who has lived down in Florida, out West in L.A. and now in the middle of Texas (Austin) after leaving the MO-KS area, I totally have been a DFS victim. Luckily, I now have Direct TV and have most of the years, allowing me to always watch my Chiefs on Sundays, no matter their opponent. There have been years, however, were I’ve done the whole sports bar thing. That can be fun, too. Easier to track the Chiefs and your fantasy teams simultaneously that way.

DFS Chiefs fans, where do you live and how do you cope? Direct TV? Mitch? Sports Bars? Trips back to K.C. and Arrowhead? The Addict?

FOR THE CHIEFS FANS THAT LIVE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS: GO TO CUATRO'S BAR & GRILL AT W. 24TH ST & SAN GABRIEL (NEAR THE U.T. WEST CAMPUS)TO WATCH THE CHIEFS. THEY ARE VERY ACCOMODATING TO CHIEFS FANS AND PUT THE GAME ON WHATEVER SCREEN YOU WANT. THEY EVEN HAVE A WALL OF SCREENS (20+ FLATSCREENS PUT TOGETHER TO MAKE ONE HUGE SCREEN THAT FILLS UP ONE WALL). THE FOOD IS DOWNRIGHT AWESOME. THE BEER IS ICE COLD. PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY! I EVEN HAD A DIE-HARD RAIDERS FAN BUY ME A SHOT OF GOLDSCHLAGER AFTER THE DISAPPOINTING LOSS LAST WEEKEND. BE PROUD OF THE RED AND GOLD. WEAR YOUR COLORS.

i wish i could take one of those up to arrowhead and kansas city my future home!! but work wont fuckin let me haha it sucks!!! florida does rock though!!!

That's awesome. In college we used to take my old Cherokee down to Panama City every year with four of us in there. Good times. Zach and I did the River Falls road trip kind of like that, too. Gotta love road trips, especially Chiefs ones.

adam we usually take my dads tahoe. my brother and i drive while my dad and a friend drink in the back. good times every year

Kansas native, moved to San Diego 2002.

Three years ago I move to Hollywood South - Shreveport, Louisana. And until 4 days ago, I thought that DirecTV was the best invention ever. And then ... the game. Sickening to watch, and sickening to see all of the empty seats. Oh I'll still watch, but it hurts. Bad.

That was it, but now it's private. I'm sure if you contacted him and told him you were a die-hard Chiefs fan you could probably get an access code.

I'd love to know the website where I can watch the games - if someone would be kind enough to share!

Saleaumau, I agree, man. The NFL Ticket is pretty great. There are quite a few of us Austinite Chiefs fans--pretty cool!

I'm living in the ATX (Austin) as well and after spending future seasons as bars a few of us watch all the games at home with the NFL Ticket. And thank God for the NFL Ticket because otherwise we'd have to display our misery in front of other people. At least this way we can scream at the TV in the privacy of a home.

born in raised in kiln ms..home of the stupid redneck brett favre...i get my chiefs info by arrowheadaddict.com the best chiefs website around and i listen to the game on 101 the fox

Born in Olathe, KS, live in Riverside, CA.

Moved from the KC area to Albuquerque, New Mexico about 6 years ago... I still get back to see a game every now and then, but I usually plop myself down in front of the pc on sundays and stream 101 the fox for audio, then go to NFL.com and watch the progress on the little graphic they have... Kinda like watching that old electronic football game that buzzed the little players around on it... only with Mitch and Lenny calling the game... By the way, since NM has no pro teams, about 40% of the fans down here are for the cowboys, another 40% for the broncos, and the remaining 20% is raiders. Yes, I live in Hell! But I wear my jersey with red and gold pride... even in the current state of the franchise :)

jbchiefs14, as someone who's driven coast to coast a few times, I know how impressive that drive is. You take an RV or something, or a car?

I live in Esteva, Saskatchewan, Canada. Been I die hard KC Fan for around 15 years (I don't even remember why the became my team).

I get the Sunday ticket package on Bell Expressvu. Never been to Arrowhead, but its on the to do list. My wife is a colts fan and I seen my first NFL game last fall when we went to UIndy to watch the colts chiefs game. I envy all the fans close enough to Kansas City to watch the game at aroowhead. I bet it is a crazy experience.

New Jersey and i deal with it with direct tv. thank god for direct tv!! We travel out to kc once a year leaving nj friday night and arriving in kc around noon saturday..go to the game on sunday head back monday morning its a hell of a drive..about 18hrs but we do it every year and even though we are gonna have a tough year ill be at the chiefs vs denver game. i watch every down even if we play like we did lastweek all year ill still watch. GO CHIEFS!!!

After a stint in Denton, TX, I am now living in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the last couple of years, I have been able to find a way to see one game a year live, but the rest I either watch on a national feed (rare these days) or listen on Sirius Radio. If I am away from home, 101 the Fox has an internet feed that works.

I've tried to watch online a couple of times, but the feed is usually choppy, which I cannot stand.

God Bless You both (Oh! and I), Oh ye of little faith, all over the country... hang in there!

I moved to Maine when I was 16 after watching the Chiefs from 89-92. Then for about 8 years it was catch the Chiefs every time they were on national TV - which because they were good was about 7 games a year. Since 2000 I have had NFL Sunday ticket. The price keeps going up and up, but how could I miss my Chiefs game? Then again as terrible as they are....

I live in Hawai'i and I watch the Chiefs online. It 'aint easy but I do what I gotta do.
