This Week's Under-The-Barstool Take

by AFC West
  • Prediction of the week: Shawn Merriman‘s departure signals the first of at least 2 key injuries certain to sink the Bolts playoff hopes this year. Couldn’t happen to nicer bunch.
  • Now that the regular season is under way, I find that I am having mixed emotions about the fact that both of the Chiefs‘ starting DEs are putting up better stats than Jared Allen.  I’d call those emotions amusement, gratification, and optimism.  Hey there Jared buddy, considering the rough start you’re having, how ’bout you let me get the next round? heh heh
  • His 1st competition . . .

  • (Team name here) Keys to this Sunday’s game:

1. Stop the run

2. Stop the QB

We’re not talking rocket science here folks.

Sean: “It’s not your fault.”

Will: “Don’t [censored] with me Sean! Not you!”

Sean: “It’s not your fault.”- Good Will Hunting

Seriously, where’s Robin Williams when you need him?

  • Donks update: The one division rival that many thought (including myself) would go nowhere fast this season is in fact the quickest of all coming out of the blocks.  Jay Cutler is a force; Eddie Royal (a guy I was hoping the Chiefs would draft) is an instant phenom. Uh oh.
  • Who do I most want to see show up for their first regular season game this Sunday? I’d be happy to have any or all of Damion MacIntosh, Chan Gailey, Dwayne Bowe, Brad Cottam, Will Franklin, or Pat Thomas make their season debut.
  • Who do I least want to see show up on Sunday?  I won’t name names but they play for the Raiders and their initials are JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden.
  • Speaking of Run DMC and the dysfunctional mess that signs his checks, how long will it be until we start referring to him as Darren McFaiden? Come to think of it, do we really need an excuse?
  • Not to dwell on it, but was that really Bill Bellichek preaching to the league about the importance of coaching clean and following the rules? Hmm, I think he positioned himself as the frontrunner for NFL Goat of the Week Award. Way to go Bill!

Thanks Tex, appreciate the feedback. Hope you're not anywhere around the Galveston/Houston area tommorrow night. Looks like another one of those wet and windy ones headed up that way. Then again, today's probably a pretty decent time to head down to the sea wall and hang ten maybe?

Happy Bday xxxlp. Don't get in too much trouble.

Double D - excellent mix of ha, ha, smack down, and good clean football analysis. I really look forward to your posts. Great job.

xxlp - HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRO!

Forgive me; I'm always a bit of a downer before my birthday, (today,) as I feel like I'm getting older and yet I still haven't accomplished anything. So I tend to bash on everything. This is still a top of the line site, and I come here probably.. 3 times a day, usually, minimum. I'm hooked. AA is my AD (anti-drug) I don't have time for tokin' it up when I have to read it up at AA, so thanks for keeping me clean and off the streets, Adam and Zach and Co.! *That's only half sarcastic, it really is a badass site!* *thumbs up.* After today, I should revert mostly back to normal, although now, I must say I'm legal to drink alcohol, so I may be a bit less coherent.

And while Jared Allen and Peyton Manning for that matter too, will both get better, it still doesn't change the fact that Jared had ZERO points for my team, and Peyton had a crappy game against an aging Bears' D, so I hate them, and they're both for trade, seperately, or in a package deal, if anyone is interested ^.^

Allen had goose eggs on both sacks & tackles which essentially means he didn't do damn thing. Stats aside, what I saw was a purple RDE pretty much getting owned the entire game.

Agreed. Chad Clifton did get the better of Jared last year as well. He should be better this week.

Apparently Jared has a hard time handling Chad Clifton. In his defense, the Packers did start rolling Aaron Rodgers away from him, so it's not like he got any chances even when he did manage to get past the tackle. The other guys on the line need to step it up to keep teams from just staying away from Jared.

So you go back to Gunther? I liked the DD!

What? No comments about my new avatar? It took me like three hours to finish the shading on the upper D. It's probably the best drawing I've ever done.

xxxlp, we got mad love for you , dude, but DAMN you complain a lot. This site has always been part football, part humor, so I actually don't even see the difference. Well, except more Chiefs football, more Chiefs humor.

Double D, love the post. Most of us can enjoy Chiefs and chuckle-makers at the same time. I sure as hell did. :)

xxxlp - Duly noted. Frankly, I was getting a little weary of the whole the Bro Cro / D-Bo back-and-forth. I opted instead to get my license renewed down at the poetry bureau.

I agree with the football stuff, except for that I think Herb Taylor needs to see playing time; quick, fast, and in a hurry. Darren McFadden has a hurt shoulder, I'd like to see Pat Thomas emerge as a definite starter as he drives DMC into the ground, Adalius Thomas style. Sad to say it, as I didn't give the guy a snowflake's chance in hell of being remotely decent, but JaMarcus looked good against the Broncos. It was basically him versus the D, as he had almost no help around him, and he still looked decent. It's only one game, at the start of a season, but.. pssh. He looked better than Brodie. And I think I gave Jared Allen the Triple X curse. I drafted Peyton Manning. Crap game. I drafted Jared Allen. Crap game. I draftDwayne Bowe, he drops 945 balls last weekend. Coincidence? Methinks not. I suck. Remind me not to draft any Chiefs any time soon.

One question though, what is up with all the fillers? If I wanted to find a good chuckle-maker, I wouldn't load in this bookmark, I'd search for a different site. I want to talk football, or more specifically, and more importantly, Chiefs football... Call me a downer for being so negative about 'everything' lately, but this is like the super badass underground rock band, that is suddenly discovered, goes mainstream, and starts pumping out cheesy 'I love you girl' songs. I don't want a cheesy mainstream one-stop-n-go site, I want a Chiefs Football site.

ha...great post sir...best I have read on here in weeks...Great movie reference as well....

I will be at the game and I would certainly love the first play to be the #5 pick in the draft tackling the #4 pick in the draft for a 4 yd loss...that would be nice....

GO CHIEFS

Hah! Our starter may need a stretcher on the sidelines at all times, but at least he doesn't need a psychiatrist to give him a peptalk between every series! Rub some dirt in it you Nancy!
