So, I was at the dentist getting work done. I was expecting to come home to see that we signed Chris Simms. Instead, I came home and saw that the Chiefs got an unexpected case of the Ingles. Ingle Martin? Really? I’d rather get a case of the shingles. Or go back to the dentist. Damn, this is disappointing.
Regardless, I did some reading up on Martin, which made me feel a little bit better. He went to Florida out of high school, where he was Rex Grossman’s back-up his freshman year, and was the starter his sophomore year until he got benched in favor of Chris Leak before the fifth game. He also played quite a bit of punter and wide receiver at Florida, so he is a versatile athlete.
He then transferred to I-AA Furman, where he shattered all kinds of records. As a high school Parade All-American, he also played some safety. He was also highly recruited by Alabama (ironic), Tennessee, LSU and Virginia as a quarterback, but eventually decided it would be great to be a Florida Gator. The only injury he’s ever sustained, that I’ve dug up at least, is a concussion. He seems durable, unlike someone we know. He’s also only 26.
After being drafted in the fifth round back in 2006, Martin has spent time with both the Packers and Titans. He backed up Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, and was buried on the practice squad behind Vince Young and Kerry “Tom” Collins in Tennessee. On those teams, it’s easy to see why he was never given a shot.
One other thing. His first name is Harry. Ingle is his middle name. Brodie Croyle’s actual first name is John, as Brodie is his middle name. It’s kind of curious that they both went with their abnormal middle names, but I’m cool with it. After all, Brodie and Ingle is a helluva lot more interesting than Harry and John.

I give up. Seriously I am tired of the Chiefs being the NFL minor league for quarterbacks. We give every no name in the book a shot and when one works out we will surely trade him for a packadge of Fig Newtons for Herm, a Rocawear shirt for LJ, and full room and board at a retirement community for Carl Peterson.
On second thought this sounds like it might be about all we can get out of a few on our roster!

he obviously has something, seeing the Packers drafted him. They tend to know what they’re doing when it comes to quarterbacks. It also appears he can run, which will be handy seeing our O line is full of holes. I don’t expect he’ll start but hopefully he’ll be better than pigpen.
They also released him after one season. And he got cut from the Titans PRACTICE SQUAD.
The Titans are getting Simms.
Really trying to make this work in my head. Are we really going to keep 4 QB’s? We can’t cut Huard at this point. I sure in the hell don’t want to see Thigpen out there. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we cut Thigpen, this move kinda makes sense. Not as much as signing Simms, but at least we are keeping a guy we can develop because Thigpen will never be that player.

From what I’ve seen and heard, he’s basically a cross between Brodie and Travaris Jackson. A strong arm, maybe a few accuracy issues at times, and with scrambling ability.
Obviously he’s a good athlete if he played punter, receiver, safety, and QB as well. He’s not going to look like Tom Brady (*snicker* Pollard Fan Club Tee’s, woot woot) and he’s not going to run like Michael Vick being chased by a rabid rottweiler *snicker again* but he’s a decent project player. If we stick with him and ditch Thiggy, then this move makes a ton of sense. Damon will suit us for this year, and then he’s probably gone. By then, Ingle should have a grasp of our offense, and if Brodie falters next year (or the end of this year) then we could turn to him at the start of the next season.
KCMizzou, the Titan’s didn’t cut him from their practice squad, we snatched him up. They were given a chance to add him to their 53 man roster, but chose not to do so. Much like when we lost Ryan Lilja to the Colts. If Ingle turns out to do for us at QB what Lilja did for the Colts at guard over these years, then I’ll be extremely happy. I still would have liked Quinn Gray better, but hey, if we’re going for a project player, then this isn’t a bad move.
On a sidenote; I’d rather have a guy that backed up guys like Rodgers, Favre, and Vince Young, (Ingle), than a guy who backed up Tarvaris Jackson (Thigpen.) I can at least understand how he got cut backing up good/above average players (and a Hall of Famer) rather than a guy like Jackson.
I have no problem with this signing if they believe he has more long term potential than Simms. I think we just need to keep looking at young guys and hope to find one. Damon can hold down the fort until Brokie comes back. The brokie can play a couple more downs, and then maybe this kid will be ready for a look.
If we compare him to Tarvaris Jackson, then we are in further trouble as TJack sucks.
Hopefully this works out but there is so many things wrong with the Chiefs right now. Almost makes you want to root for another team – but I’m just too dedicated.

Secondly, I was not opposed to taking Simms however what I cannot understand is why those of who question Brodie Croyle’s durability would want to go for a guy who has not been able to play for almost 2 years. It seems to me you’re being a little inconsistent there. Or could that just be plain old prejudice rearing its ugly head?
