September 7th, 2008 at 11:58 amAre you sure we are back? I still can’t get back in.
September 7th, 2008 at 12:01 pmwords cannot describe how pissed off i am right now.
Nothing positive can be taken out of this game. That was the worst display of play calling i have ever seen. Im so raged right now. We lost a game that we should of won. I dont care what anyone has to say about that, but im my oppinion, the chiefs wasted a perfectly good oppertunity to win a game. thats the differance between a championship team and a losing team. When you are given a great chance to win a game, and you throw it away.
Its a sad day to be a chiefs fan….
September 7th, 2008 at 2:57 pmcroyle played pretty well, and very smart, i hope his injury is not serious!
bowe dropped like 4 passes!
we could have tied the game
did anyone else notice that we got 5 downs instead of 4 on the last drive? Not even kidding, check it out if you can.
September 7th, 2008 at 3:32 pmI agree tim, playcalling was horrendous, I had vivid, oh so horrifying flashbacks of Solari in a Chiefs’ Tee. I think I peed a little. But seriously, play-calling was pathetic. No play-action. No screens, reverses, anything remotely-unpredictable. It was quite pathetic. I understand that when the starting QB goes down, of course the playbook shrinks.. a BIT. I’ll give them that excuse (though Huard should know the in’s and out’s by now of what he’s doing.) But seriously, that vanilla in a game we still had a chance in with 30 seconds to go in the game? Jesus.. To think, if we’d of had Saunders still, we probably would have scored 24.
Our D played bad, though. The DE’s looked nice. I’m not worried about them so much, as the DT’s/LB’s. DE/secondary guys looked good. Plus I was praying for a Tom Brady injury and snap, Pollard delivered for me. Good times. Better playcalling, better play from the DT’s/LB’s, and we’re right in the mix of things. If we can’t defend against the run next week, Oakland is going to pwn us.
September 7th, 2008 at 3:34 pmblairmeister
the first play didn’t count. The Patriots called a timeout right before the snap.
September 7th, 2008 at 3:35 pmFor me a couple of things stood out.
1. O line did nothing well, we couldn’t give LJ any room.
2. Pat Thomas got used by Cassell and hurt us.
3. Bowe has got to catch the fuckin ball and quit thinking about where he is gonna go or whatever, he’s looking upfield instead of looking the ball in.
4. There’s this thing called the sweep that worked well…how about we try that sometime, or a FB lead around the outside?
September 7th, 2008 at 3:54 pm5. Bad play calling…that game shoulda went to OT
xxxlp, whats up,man…
I agree. interior D-Linemen played weak. We didnt give enough push in the middle. We couldve easily done what the Giants did last Super Bowl… Which was pressure the QB. I mean, we got a couple sacks and hurried Cassell and EVEN Brady a few times, but nowhere near what NE played on us. it seemed like Vrabel and Seymour were in the back field almost every play…
Our LB’s played like shit (with the exception of my boy DJ. I happen to think he played well.) So when you aint gettin’ pressure on the QB and aint stopping the run, it makes it that much harder on the secondary. Though Flowers did OK, and Surtain played outstanding and looks to be in form.
But man… We had a shot. D Bowe really choked on that play in the end zone (the 2nd 1st down play) That was his, damnit. Right in his hands. TIE GAME! Overtime! But no….. Shit.
September 7th, 2008 at 3:55 pmOh! And yes… Ladies and Gentlemen… That was Pat Thomas… 1 of OUR TEAM CAPTAINS getting torched by “Quick Feet” Cassell… WTF!?!?
September 7th, 2008 at 4:03 pmSome please correct me if im wrong here.
1. What is with the chiefs and hiring dam stubborn offensive co-ordinators. It was pretty darn clear that the plays they are calling are not working. Why can’t the chiefs adapt. If i play doesnt work, you dont call it another two or three times. Eg 1. Running larry into a wall of defenders play after play. What is with the counters, it was so obvious they werent working. I swear i saw like 2 runs to the outside and like one toss play. Larrys big run was a run where he bounced to the outside, big suprise, it worked. Lets just keep running into the scrum and getting next to no yards….
2. We ran the Wr screen 3 times out of the same package to the same side. just differant receivers. Who are you trying to fool, this isnt college football, seriously.
3. if im not correct. I think we attempted 2 passes over 20 yrds. First was picked off, second was a massive catch to darling…. Why do we have a gunslinger if you arnt going to let him throw i deep ball. again… seriously… and dont give me the he didnt have time. Put 7-8 guys on block and just let one receiver run down feild. Who cares if it fails or he over throws it. Atleast it shows you are willing to strech the feild….
4. OMG, the final drive….. Throw it to bowe on 3 out of the 5 attempts…. OMFG… even if tony was covered, what about the other 3 WR you had on the feild. I know D-Bowe is our end zone target but seriously. (the final play was defensive pass interference but i dont care because we should of put it into the endzone on one of the first three atempts. and what was with the draw play. Cancer is in the both, he can see the match up, the pats ran the same package three times in a row, big bill was signing “bait, bait” or “fishing, fishing”. we run same pakage, he runs same package. Arrgggg.
5. Im really suprised we didnt see larry spike the ball into the earths core. If i was him i would be so pissed right now….. Its like being told “hey larry, go run into that wall over there 30 times….”
6. How bout a screen play, or a slants route… We ran them in the preseason. Were they the crazy experimental trick plays ive been hearing about…. Try them in the preseason but they are way to risking for the real season.
I could go all day, but what would that acheive.
One more thing… Make all the bill bilicheck jokes you want… at the end of the day, atleast the pats win games…
Go Chiefs
September 7th, 2008 at 4:09 pmLet’s talk about some good stuff. Ten bright spots.
1. Pollard and Page tackled well. That’s nice to see.
2. Albert looked pretty damn good.
3. Tony still has it.
4. Charles is going to be a lot of fun to watch for a while.
5. Turk managed to get some pressure and made some quality stops.
6. Dorsey is a big, big man on the inside.
7. Flowers and Carr played well for two rookies in the secondary.
8. Surtain looked much better than he did all year last year.
9. We’ve got some pretty nice depth on the d line.
10. Colquitt is still Colquitt.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:13 pmIt’s officially a separated shoulder for Croyle. No speculation on how long he’ll be out. Anybody got a guess on how long he’ll be out?
September 7th, 2008 at 4:19 pmKCMizzou… I like that…
But back to the bad shit.. jk.
A couple points though… Now, correct ME if I’M wrong… But we are 1st and goal, at the 5…. We have 4 cracks at the TD. Why didnt we bang LJ into the line?? I know that it wasnt working too effectively much of the game… But DUDE! 4 tries and 5 yards to go?? F*ckin’ MAN UP! Push your way into the end zone! Even try giving Cox the ball and have LJ behind him pushing his thick ass! It was frustrating as hell seeing them so close yet couldnt do jack with it.
My next point is, yeah Albert, Waters, and Niswanger did great… But I wasnt too jazzed with the right side.
On the bright side… Pollard and Page are looking like the Safeties we hoped they’d turn out to be (ESPECIALLY Pollard) and J. Charles is a GREAT #2 to LJ. I like him.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:23 pmThey tried Johnson up the middle on second down.
I vote for Herb to start at RT. And the RG position? I’m lost.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:24 pmI dont know how long Croyle will be out, but god… That kid is like glass… A freakin UPS package marked ‘FRAGILE’. He needs to drink more milk.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:24 pmI agree with tim and xxxlp on the playcalling. I thought Chan was gonna bring us a little unpredictability; but seems like he was stuck in preseason mode.
I thought our de’s looked good. They were getting into the backfield pretty good. Our dt’s however didn’t get a very consistent push up the middle and therefore all their qb had to do was step up in the pocket. I also thought Gun would bring a few more blitzes than he did. Whenever they blitzed they looked impressive but didn’t do much of it.
Secondary did an admirable job. Was pleasantly surprised with Surtain’s play and rest looked good also with the exception of our lapse when Moss went from endzone to midfield. Should have had one of the younger safties in there instead of McGraw. Don’t get me wrong I like McGraw but he lacks good speed.
Our dt’s were getting pushed around a lot. A lot were double teams, but then someone alse should have been getting in there on blitzes or whatever.
Gonzales was his usual great self but Bowe dropped too many to be called Mr. Awesome. 4sho.. Darling still has only 1 catch, but lord what a catch. I had hoped however that he was a lot faster than he seemed. I thought he should have scored on that play.
Ironman wasn’t bad but thought he tiptoed up to the line several times when he should have just hit the line. I don’t think that he is very happy with being taken out on 3rd downs. I thought Charles looked good. Chan should be doing more “Reggie Bush” type plays with him.
All in all I was sad we didn’t win; but I don’t think that we embarrased ourselves either. Losing to the Pats by 7 probably is better than most of us expected.
So be of good cheer diehard Chiefs fans……….we’re getting better and I hope to see better than a 4-12 season.
GO CHIEFS!!
September 7th, 2008 at 4:25 pmAnd yeah… they tried LJ up the middle on 2nd… But again. If we have more opportunities, I’m SURE LJ can find his way to the end zone.
September 7th, 2008 at 4:26 pmLOL quick feet Cassel
September 7th, 2008 at 4:27 pmI agree. Lobo… and getting on KCMizzou’s Optimistic Train… This year’s Opening Day looked a hell of a lot better than Last year’s opening day… And not to mention that we went head to head against arguablely one of the best teams in NFL history (with a whole new offense and 5 rookie starters). Granted they’re a bit different looking than last year and Brady was lost most of the game, Cassell DID play well, and they still had their D, Special teams, Moss and Maroney playing well. So, hats off to our boys in red.
