A.A. Fantasy Football League Draft Results
We had the official Arrowhead Addict Fantasy Football League draft last night. The big surprise, at least Chiefs-wise, was that Larry Johnson went No. 1 overall. Even I wouldn’t have drafted Iron Man that high! Tony Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe were also drafted early, and even Derrick Johnson got in on the action! If you are an owner of one of the teams, make sure to sound off in the comments on how you felt the draft went. I had a blast and thought that everyone did quite well, even the rooks. Personally, I rolled the dice on a Terrell Owens-Tony Romo double dip. We’ll see how that works out. Results after the jump…

hey adam you listed your team as justin’s juggernauts also
September 4th, 2008 at 9:15 pmI somehow managed to miss out on this. I’m a failure.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:20 pmI was very pleased with this being your first time Adam. I think overall that the draft went very smooth and quick even though I had a bit of a hard time at FIRST figuring it all out on LIVE drafting AND got booted off the net for a round, but it went great with the amount of time you had to pick (helps keep it from going for HOURS) and that I personally felt everyone has a good team.
I still want to trade for TG, but that is just me being familiar with my own league and having him on my team for 5 years. None the less I was of the group who wanted to have a CHIEFS player on my league (hince picking up Bernard Pollard for my D).
Love it and hey..check out my Brandon Jacobs.. *S*
Good luck all
CHIEFS!!!!!
September 4th, 2008 at 10:04 pmWhat team are you? That’s the problem with this; I don’t have a clue who half the people are. I’d like to have a feel for who I’m playing against, ya’kn’aw’mean? In case anyone didn’t know/was wondering, I’m Justin’s Juggernauts >.<
September 4th, 2008 at 10:12 pmLoved the draft and feel real honored to be a part of it!
playaction31:
1. (14) Frank Gore
2. (15) Marshawn Lynch
I hated being at the turn around – I wanted to either get a top RB or peyton manning – neither of which happened.
3. (42) Plaxico Burress
4. (43) Calvin Johnson
I loved these selections – In a touchdown league these two are monsters.
5. (70) San Diego
6. (71) Patrick Willis
I was trying to get value here – after looking at the score settings I am not as pumped (in other leagues these would be “money picks”)
7. (98) Jay Cutler
8. (99) Rashard Mendenhall
I was getting nervous because the top QB’s really began to disapear – felt lucky to get Cutler this late in the draft (I am rooting against my QB)
9. (126) Vernon Davis
10. (127) DeMeco Ryans
I feel good about Vernon Davis – breakout year?
11. (154) Deion Branch
12. (155) Ray Rice
Pumped to see Branch still available
13. (182) Robert Meachem
14. (183) Tim Hightower
I feel really good that one of my rookie RB’s will pan out
15. (210) James Hardy
16. (211) Derrick Johnson
Had to pick DJ – also thinking he might have trade value
September 4th, 2008 at 10:52 pmYeah, I wanted to be sooner so I could have one ‘take him to the bank’ RB. But I was pleasantly surprised when Peyton was still there at 10.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:10 pmxxxlp – you also took Owen Daniels just before me. He should be a sleeper at TE
September 4th, 2008 at 11:16 pmThat’s what I’m hoping, him and Jonathan Stewart, hope they have great years. I took alot of rookies in my draft this year, hopefully some of them will pan out for me, because I’m not sure the veterans I have in can do it for me this year. And not too many trade offers for DJ and/or Ryans, eh? Lol. To be honest; those were the 3 guys I really wanted, but when you took Willis, I was just like argh! Fine! Jared! I thought about trying to stockpile defensive players too, but there’s just too many individually good ones, that I thought it was too iffy
September 4th, 2008 at 11:23 pmxxxlp, my team is AsylumAddicts and it’s my first fantasy team ever. I decided to play possession and defense before the draft, and get the best qb available with my first pick. I was happy to get Ben Roethlisberger there at #12. Between Ben, Micheal Turner and Lawrence Maroney, I think the Offense is going to be solid.
I also took Mason Crosby with my 4th pick which inspired some conversation in the chat dialog during the draft, but I suspect GB is going to kick a lot of FG’s this year while Aaron Rodgers gets up to speed and Mason looks to me to be a lock to win the scoring title this year.
I also took GB’s D early but no one said zip about that.
I’m not completely thrilled with my WR’s & TE’s but I got the best I could.
Terrence McGee was on my watch list and I accidently took him earlier for the bench than I intended, but he fills the bill to play the bye week for Vrable so it’s ok.
Except for the McGee gaff with the draft software, the only other mistake I made was not knowing Reggie Williams pulled his hamstring this week… so I’m playing Isaac Bruce along side Donald Driver… should be interesting to see if I get any WR points at all.
My entire bench was drafted to cover my other players/defense during bye weeks. So I’ve got a spare kicker, QB, WR, RB, Defense (Cleveland) and defensive specialist.
My only other philosophy was not to drive myself batty by drafting from other teams in the AFC West – I just didn’t think my ole heart would stand the strain of the conflict. I hate donks, dolts and faders without apology!

P.S. I cannot WAIT for this weekend… even watching the scoring on the fantasy league from tonights game has me asking all kinds of questions!
September 5th, 2008 at 12:13 amYeah CMF, you were one of the few I knew, as we were matched up in the ESPN league before that went downhill
You had a nice draft- Big Ben ain’t getting 100+ million dollars to do nothin’, eh? Maroney will have a good year, and Turner should notch 1k yards, despite being confronted with 8 men in the box oh.. every single week of the season? Crosby was too soon, IMO, but a solid kicker nonetheless. Alge could be a major steal, as VY has no real WR threats to consistently go for, and especially in the redzone, Crumpler could come up huge for you. He was one of my sleeper TE’s to watch for.
The D will be solid, it’s an up and coming young unit (despite it’s fossilized corners, who still play extremely well.) Driver is a nice WR, and will be a ’security blanket’ for AR. Vrabel is getting older and older every year, but still should be solid, as one of their better LB’s. I don’t know if offensive production counts for Defensive players on Yahoo, but if it does, you have extra added benefit from him as well. Williams is a nice pickup, he quietly had a really good season last year, so nice pickup there.
Garcia will get you some yards on a bye, or if Ben has a horrid matchup, which he does, because the Steelers play all the major teams (Colts, Jags, Cowboys, Patsies, etc.) And the bench looks fairly solid as well. The only thing I would change is to drop Clevelands D, pick up a TE/RB in case of injury and/or matchup problems, because Cleveland’s D isn’t going to be anything special, and you’ll only use them one week. You can always drop a player that same week, and pick up a D as a backup. All-in-all, for a rook owner, very nice stuff.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:21 amI am KCSmashMouth, I had to go with L.J with the number one, i wanted him and I knew he wouldnt last. The name of my team comes from him so I had to do it. I was happy until I noticed that 2 of my WR are out for week one so I had to do some adjusting. My bench RB is also out FOR THE SEASON. so I had to try dropping him to add Rudi. Still waiting for that to go through. All in all it was a great draft for everyone I think. And out of all my leagues, at least 15, I think this is the most important just because I think of you all as friends. I converse with most of you more than I do most of my friends outside of here.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:28 amI also double dipped with T.J who I think is gonna have a big yr and Palmer who’s gonna be the one throwing to T.J LOL
September 5th, 2008 at 12:29 amseems like everytime I started building a list up they were gone before my next pick. But I still like my team.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:34 amHoly snapplecakes! 15 leagues? How do you find the time? I did 9 teams one year (my first year of fantasy) and I thought I was going to go bonker trying to keep up with which team played against which players. It got to the point where I just stopped caring, and just went and checked to see if I won after the weekend was over. Like I’d have Reggie Wayne on a few teams, but I’d also be playing against Reggie, so I had to root for him to do well, but not so well that it killed me. It was ridiculous. I think I’m still trying to get back to full sanity after that incident.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:34 amThanks for the insight xxxlp and the complement!
It never occurred to me to check the matchups each week for my QB’s (or other players for that matter) in order to choose the QB most likely to have the best week based on matchups… interesting idea though. I only thought about covering the byes.
I will look into dropping the D like you recommend as that’s a good insight.
I noticed playaction31 didn’t even draft a kicker. Was that a fantasy strategy or was he the guy that got zapped by his puter or kicked off the server for a couple of rounds? Maybe I should offer him Shayne Graham in a trade???
I never thought I’d dig the fantasy thing this much, but it’s a shitload more fun than I expected – and I’ve got a whole new group of fans to talk smak with!
September 5th, 2008 at 12:36 amOn yahoo you can set it up week by week that way your roster automatically changes when your players have a bye. The others I check on occasionally and a few of them were straight starters and no backups so you dont get that convenience. Ours will be the one I check most regularly though.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:38 amso far I cant even get the damn roster to come up on the ‘My Team’ tab… I dont get it! I have to go to the matchup link to see my starters and I have to go to the stat tracker to review my bench.
also, aren’t all of the players that went undrafted still available to us? I cannot get that list to post on yahoo either. I dont know if I’m just a newbie idiot or if that crap aint working!
September 5th, 2008 at 12:50 amThe draft was a lot of fun. My team is Bodies by Mangino.
Bodies By Mangino:
1. (2) LaDainian Tomlinson
2. (27) Marques Colston
3. (30) Brandon Marshall
4. (55) Kellen Winslow
5. (58) Edgerrin James
6. (83) Anthony Gonzalez
7. (86) Eli Manning
8. (111) Patrick Crayton
9. (114) Julius Jones
10. (139) Vince Young
11. (142) Ernie Sims
12. (167) Tampa Bay
13. (170) Philadelphia
14. (195) Andre Hall
15. (198) Atari Bigby
16. (223) David Akers
I couldn’t belive LT slipped to me at number 2 but was more than happy to take him. I’ve never had the luxury of drafting a top-tier player (I’m always at the tail end of the draft – dumb luck) so this will likely be the year LT breaks down and has a season ending injury.
This may be the toughest league I have ever been in and I have been in some very competitive ones. It it pretty deep with 14 teams and everyone knows their football. The best thing about this league is the combination of comraderie and trash talking.
I’m looking forward to a great football season and some good competition. Thanks again for getting this together Adam!
September 5th, 2008 at 8:26 amCharlie don’t surf!:
1. (5) Joseph Addai
2. (24) Willie Parker
3. (33) Wes Welker
4. (52) Santonio Holmes
5. (61) Chris Cooley
6. (80) David Garrard
7. (89) New England
8. (108) Stephen Gostkowski
9. (117) Felix Jones
10. (136) Jason Campbell
11. (145) DeSean Jackson
12. (164) Desmond Clark
13. (173) Chris Henry
14. (192) Jon Beason
15. (201) Muhsin Muhammad
16. (220) New York
Overall I think my draft went fairly well. A little weak at QB but with only 4 points per TD pass that isn’t too bad. Cooley laid an egg last night and Jason Campbell looked horrid. In my other league I have both Plaxico Burress and Brandon Jacobs so that took the sting away from Cooley.
I took a risk on DeSean Jackson and Chris Henry in the latter rounds those are feast or famine picks. I think Getting Jon Beason there was a good value, he should be solid.
If New York’s defense plays like it did last night I might have a saftey valve if NE’s defense starts showing age. Though I only drafted them to cover my bye week. Yahoo had NY’s bye at week 5 but it’s actually week 4 same as the pats. So that was a nice surprise.
I think I should be competetive but I don’t think it’s a championship team. Unless I can pull off a few trades to fill the holes I have.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:15 am= Where’sMyHoodie – Third to last pick…
September 5th, 2008 at 1:07 pmFrayedKnots would be me. Just look for the Winner I should say LOL.. joke. I believe I was 8th to pick. For being that far down I think I didn’t do too shabby.
Brandon Jacobs tore it up last night!!
September 5th, 2008 at 5:08 pmI did the Maine Bears. I am not sure about my team. I have never done this before and was flying by the seat of my pants, strategy-wise. However, I am excited to see how my team does. Go Bears!!!
