A.A.D.Q.: Guess The Score?

Posted by: Adam Best

What will the final score be when the Chiefs and Patriots square off in Foxboro? My guess is 41-10. I just don’t forsee it being close. Sorry. Of course, I could be wrong. If we could just look into our Chiefs’ crystal balls there would be no point in having this discussion in the first place.

What will the final score be on Sunday?

            BallHype: hype it up!

  1. 1. xxxlp Says:

You’re right, it’s either going to be a blowout, or we’re going to play it close, but I just don’t know if we can hang with ‘em through 4 quarters. I’ve said this before but it comes down to turnovers, and our offense being able to keep the chains moving. If our D is tired, we’ll get smoked. We saw that all of last year and the year before. We had D’s that were above average, but they were brought down by other team’s just pwning us in later quarters, after our D was on their last legs. I’m rooting for the 3-3-5 to get us a few picks. Yeehaw. I’d sure like to see Tom Brady start the season with 1 TD and 2-3 picks. That’d be nice. Then again, it’d suck if Brodie does that too.

It’s a toss-up either way, but I’m going to take the ‘we played ‘em close, still lost, but came away with a W in the ‘morale column’ route. 28-21, Patsies.

  2. 2. sandya Says:

I think we will play it close..Herm for whatever reason gets us to play good games when we shouldn’t..We had no business last year crushing Diego and hanging touch against Indy without Larry Johnson..

Give us some credit..Although we’ve got holes and an ass load of young players..We’ve got some of the best play makers in the league in LJ, tony, and bowe. Look for Cottam to have a great year..I think he will excel in single coverage. In the end, I think we’ll lose tho

  3. 3. Scott Says:

My goal for the team is to come within 10 points of the Cheaters.

    Realistically, I’m feeling 24-13 Pats.

Ideally, Pats suck hind titty Fader style. 35-10 Kansas City!

    Right. Oh well. GO CHIEFS!!!

  4. 4. CurtMerzFan Says:

I’m with Sandya… I think we play ‘em close… partly because Herm gets better results than he should some times… and partly because they’re nicked in several places and Brady hasn’t taken a snap at game speed since the superbowl.

Plus, the patsies are acting and talking like KC is like playing a fifth preseason game – and you know that has to gall the guys in the locker room NO end.

They could surprize and shock all of us if it’s close at the end. KC 23-21

  5. 5. Howlin Wolf Says:

Chiefs win 21 – 17. Brady to be the shadow of his former self, the mental scars from getting his ass manhandled by the giants in the superbowl to much to overcome, and he gets picked off by Flowers when his last minute pass to Moss goes astray when Dorsey gets a hand on the ball. Please.

  6. 6. Maine_Chief Says:

21-10 Pats. A sign of hope if we can just stay in it.

  7. 7. Double D Says:

I’m with Howlin’ Wolf, 21-17 Chiefs.
Herm knows the Pats better than most coaches and he’ll have our guys playing them close enough to win it at the end. I know we’ll probably give up a couple of big plays but otherwise play them tough on 3rd downs and in the red zone. Brodie will exploit their secondary with passes to Gonz, Helicopter, Webb, Darling, and Price. Our stable of awesome backs will light it up on the ground and through the air. Mike Cox will be good for at least 33 yards.

We’ll get it done with fresh, creative playcalling, aggressive defense and a trick play in the 4th quarter that will swing the mo our favor for good.

A day of darkness and self-doubt for the Pats and their fans. A day of renewed hope for the Chiefs and their fans.

  8. 8. Double D Says:

Cottam will show up and catch a pass or two as well.

  9. 9. Double D Says:

Oh, and The Show will get it done as well.

  10. 10. ArkansasDave Says:

I think we’re gonna be better then them in the 4th quarter… And Score what we need to – to win.
    Quarter 1: 14 – 3 Patsies
    Quarter 2: 24 – 10 Patsies
    Quarter 3: 27 – 24 Patsies 1 TD by the defense
    Quarter 4: 27 – 31 Chiefs

  11. 11. Vrod74-MikeSD Says:

I love the optimism here, but I have to say that the patsies win this one. Not sure about a score. It could go either way, so I am going to say 35-24 Pats. Although, I REALLY hope we get lucky.

  12. 12. MN Chiefs Fan Says:

Chiefs will have an awesome day on defense, but just so-so on offence. Hence the score is 17-10 Pats….maybe we get 13.

  13. 13. blue Says:

    27-20. You decide who wins.

  14. 14. JohnNdallas Says:

If the Chiefs have to put more than 17 pts. on the board, NE wins.

    Chiefs 17/NE 13

  15. 15. Sudden Says:

Considering how unreal some of these predictions do seem, I’ll jump in with something similarly unreal.

Chiefs win 2-0 on a safety by Brian Johnston.

  16. 16. woodmann Says:

That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all week Sudden!!! That’s good! Croyle goes 6 of 19, 2 INT, 0 TD. If we score one at all it’ll be on the back of LJ, but I’m not even that optimistic!
    42-6 / 42-9 Pats!

  17. 17. Adam Says:

Thank you for bringing this spaceship back down to Earth, Sudden and woodmann.

  18. 18. Adam Says:

If that doesn’t bring people back from Outer Space, this will…

    http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/story/779409.html

One of Whitlock’s finest, and I’ve been hard on him in the recent past.

  19. 19. Double D Says:

Talk about not being grounded, 41-10 is ridiculously pessimistic. The Chiefs will easily beat the spread. No matter how it goes, I highly doubt either team wins by more than 4 points.

  20. 20. Adam Says:

I will hold you to that prediction, Double D. I know the Chiefs won’t finish closer than ten points behind, and, unfortunately, I’ll take the Pats at -16 if I’m calling it.

  21. 21. Double D Says:

    “One of Whitlock’s finest, . . .”
So I guess that means your regard for this team is that they’re nothing but a booty call? And that the best thing that can happen is for this team to waste an entire season so we can draft high for QB? Am I right? Yes.
Glad to finally see what your fanhood is made of Adam. Better to know these things later than never I guess.
    :@

  22. 22. Adam Says:

Questioning my fanhood? Wow, the natives are really restless today…

A smart Chiefs fan knows that the worst thing that can happen to us is to continue to be stuck in 8-10 win purgatory and get rewarded for one-and-dones in the playoffs with a draft picks in the 20s. That’s wasting a season. (For example, look at the difference between Tamba Hali and Glenn Dorsey.) I’m sick of that, and I’m willing to go through more hard times for the real deal.

I thought the article was hilarious. I don’t agree with him on Tom Brady not playing, because he is that team. I don’t agree with him on all of his points. But I do agree with him about our playbook and Brodie Croyle. Don’t tell me I’m not a Chiefs fan because I haven’t bought into the Brodie and Herm hype. Don’t tell me I’m not a Chiefs fan because I want the organization to win a Super Bowl, instead of just playing well enough to pack the seats. C’mon, dude.

  23. 23. Adam Says:

I guess I’m not a real fan because I think the Chiefs will lose by more than four points.

I guess I’m not a real fan because I think Brodie Croyle and Jeff Webb will never work out.

I guess I’m not a real fan because I don’t invest blind faith in Herm Edwards and his staff.

I guess I’m not a real fan because I want us to finally get a franchise QB by any means necessary.

I guess I’m not a real fan because I want a Super Bowl victory instead of getting bounced in the Wild Card round.

I guess I’m not a Chiefs fan, even though I run a Chiefs blog.

I guess I’m not a Chiefs fan because even though I always root for a win, I know that sometimes a loss isn’t the worst outcome in the grand scheme of things.

I guess I’m not a real fan because I’m not a homer of epic proportions.

I feel like Bart Simpson writing on the chalkboard :)

  24. 24. Double D Says:

Apparently it makes me a homer when I want my team to feel good about who they are now as opposed to having them wait until next year to feel that way.

Apparently it makes me a homer that I get pissed off that that the number 1 asshole of the local press (and his sychophants) thinks it’s okay to disrespect my team.

Apparently it makes me a homer when I rather see my NFL team compete likes it’s actually made up of NFL players who can win this year rather than 3 years from now.

Apparently it makes me a homer when if I refuse to put all my faith in next year’s draft.

Apparently it makes me a homer when I believe it’s completely absurd to claim that I know that the kid we have now lacks what it takes to become a franchise QB but that some college kid that’s barely learned how to run a spread offense can become an NFL franchise QB maybe 4 years from now.

Apparently it makes me a homer that it doesn’t make a shits bit of difference to me whether Sippio makes the team over Webb as long as we can win with whoever we have.

Apparently it makes me a homer if I agree with the core philosophy of the head coach and have faith that his approach can prevail.

Apparently it makes me a homer if I would really like to see guys like Tony Gonzolez and Brian Waters taste a championship before they retire.

As long as I feel that the players and coaches believe in themselves, then so will I. If they stop doing so, then so will I.

  25. 25. JohnNdallas Says:

To Sudden and Adam: What was so ridiculous about my PREDICTION? If the Chiefs are going to win they will have to hold NE under 17 pts. I dont think that is “so far out there”, You asked us to PREDICT the score not write it in stone thus, I chose 17/13 Chiefs.

And what is so wrong with being a “homer”??, were all homers, were here on a Chiefs blog, of course were going to be optimistic and enthusiastic about the Chiefs. It seems like you Adam, have a rather nasty phobia about being a “homer”, unnecessarily so!
I agree with what CurtMerzsFan said, Who said your opinion is the ONLY “honest” one? To me that is disrespectful to anyone who hasn’t made a judgement of gloom and doom for the Chiefs.
I also agree w/Dbl. D……”Booty Call Chiefs” That is insulting to every one who puts on the uniform and plays for us. YES! your precious Bobby Sippo too.

  26. 26. JohnNdallas Says:

Damn! Forgot to spell ck :(

  27. 27. Sudden Says:

Lol. John, I’m the one who says the Chiefs are a 10-6 team this year, so if there is a Homer on this blog, consider me the balding yellow guy drinking Duff Beer. And you’re right insofar as IF we have any chance of beating NE, we have to keep them at least under 20 points (although I think their D will be suspect and Chan’s first game means Bellicheat doesn’t know what to expect). All of that said, we CAN beat the Patsies, but WILL we? I doubt it. I’m trying to be realistic about our team (and when I say 10-6, I am being what I consider realistic), but the Pats are a jaggurnaut of an offensive team that can only be contained with an intense pass rush, which is something we had trouble doing to Miami, let alone NE. In all honesty, I think we lose the game 38-24, but it doesn’t seem that close… Sorry Adam, looks like we cover.

  28. 28. Double D Says:

Let’s see, I guess we should pity those no-so-smart NY Giants fans for enduring the Purgatory of their 10-6 team? Doesn’t sound like all that bad of a place to me.

  29. 29. Adam Says:

The difference is that the Giants had actually won a playoff game in the past 15 years.

  30. 30. ComeSackMyQB Says:

WOW, I have missed a lot. I guess I am a homer too. Im calling for the chiefs to win it 24-21 on the leg of Novak.

  31. 31. Sudden Says:

I’m with you Double D. I’d rather have 10-6 then 6-10 or 2-14. I have to live among Raiders, Chargers, and Cowboys fans here in SoCal, so I want to finish as best as we can. Besides, we went 9-7 two years ago and ended up drafting the best WR there was in D-Bowe, so I think Adam’s draft point is a little off target. The Pats win year in year out while drafting late, meanwhile the Raiders haven’t been able to win more than five games in the last five years even with as many top 10 picks as you could ask for (ok, Adam, I will let you use the “Al Davis is senile defense there).

  32. 32. ComeSackMyQB Says:

I believe we have to try to win to get these young guys confidence up. We cant keep losing and have them feeling like they suck and this team sucks so why even try. The time is NOW, not next yr or the yr after, we have rookies now that need to win just as much as your rook QB will next yr.

  33. 33. Adam Says:

I desperately hope that I am wrong, fellas, but I’m betting that come Sunday night there will be a lot of you saying, yep, Adam was right after all. Just my $.02, because the game still has to be played.

  34. 34. ComeSackMyQB Says:

Thats just it. NOBODY is right or wrong until then.

  35. 35. Double D Says:

I know you feel Adam and I’m betting we’ll witness a similar show of humility from you. 8)

  36. 36. Double D Says:

Make that “how you feel” :|

  37. 37. ComeSackMyQB Says:

Tom Brady has a cracked bone in his foot, he will not play for long,he’ll be hit a few times, show he’s in pain, and then after he throws that INT to Flowers that results in a TD he will be out for the game

  38. 38. ComeSackMyQB Says:

I believe our defensive line, if it plays well, can be just as good as the Giants line, we have alot of talent on our line

  39. 39. Adam Says:

I have no problem saying I was wrong. I’ve shown that, Double D. But I really don’t think that I am.

CSMQ, I actually think Tamba Hali is now the weakest link on the line. I’m not sure he can hack it on the strong side at this point. I’ll give him some time, though.

  40. 40. Double D Says:

I wonder if it’s anything like the injury LJ had? The big spread has suddenly evaporated and Vegas is all of a sudden showing “OFF THE BOARD” for the game. HA HA HA. I love it. In spite of Jabba’s, and his new best friend, Adam’s deepest wishes, we can mark this one as a win fellas. GO CHIEFS!!

  41. 41. ComeSackMyQB Says:

I was almost thinkin that too, Maybe try switching Tamba and Turk around,or whatever we need to do to get our ends to be play breakers

  42. 42. Double D Says:

Tamba is not who the Pats need to worry about, it’s DJ.

  43. 43. ComeSackMyQB Says:

Double D, your looking awful white there, lol, why dont you get a gravatar, lol, I agree DJ is gonna wreck house

  44. 44. Double D Says:

I have to set up my gravatar from home – haven’t taken time to do so yet much less decided on something appropriate. Probably take care of it over the weekend.

  45. 45. ComeSackMyQB Says:

lol, it’s cool, i was joking. tryin to lighten it up in here

  46. 46. JohnNdallas Says:

Adam? What are you betting on? The Chiefs will get blown out in NE, or that the Chiefs season is going to be a “waste”?
If your betting on the latter I’m sure there are going to be some that will base an entire 16 game season on the first game (win or loose, big or small)just as you have seemed to have based yours on our roster, PRE-season, coaching staff etc. etc. But I can promise this, I won’t be one of them! Not yet anyway!

If your betting that the Chiefs get blown out in NE, well! you have tread-ed in dangerous water LOL.
Way to go. Way out on a limb with that one! :)

I hope you respond to this one, go on the record with your BET!

  47. 47. KC Says:

34 – 17 Pats We are to young still but maybe by the end of the year. I hope I am wrong

  48. 48. bigknoxy Says:

@ComeSackMyQB: that is music to my ears! :)

    http://www.kcchiefsfootball.com

  49. 49. Adam Says:

John, I am predicting that we get blown out come Sunday. I am hoping that the season won’t be a waste. To me, however, the barometer for success is progress not wins. I want our young guys to improve and for us to decide once and for all if Brodie is the guy or not (I’m guessing not…but we’ll all wait and see).

  50. 50. Double D Says:

In the NFL, wins are the ultimate measure of success; Superbowl being the final one.

  51. 51. Adam Says:

This year, the barometer is progress, because it certainly won’t be wins.

  52. 52. Scott Says:

    Adam,

I share your opinion that we can probably put this game in the L column. That doesn’t bother me. If we win, great. No one expects us to. What does bother me are your compliments to Whitlock’s article. That is probably the single most enraging piece of his that I’ve ever read. His blatant disrespect for the team and everyone involved with it is sickening.

When I first saw it I wanted to write a scathing comment on the Star’s website. Then I realized it wouldn’t make a damn bit of difference. So I decided to email the writer of my favorite Chiefs site. Surely he was just as disgusted at that trash as I was. Surely I could count on him to rip into Whitlock for me, do an eloquent job, and do it in a much wider forum. Surely I was wrong.

Make no mistake, I’m not leaving. I’m not questioning your fandom. I just can’t understand how you could agree in any way with his vicious cutting down of our team. My respect level for you has always been very high. I can’t say that any more.

  53. 53. Adam Says:

I still respect you, Scott, and thanks for chiming in. But being my own man with my own voice is more important to me than popularity. I just honestly happened to agree with a lot of this article.

By the reaction I’m getting, you’d think that I posted a blog wearing a Broncos jersey with a Raiders cap.

I happened to agree with Jason on this one. I think it’s that we are both fed up with this “we’re going to go 10-6 because Brodie is the savior” attitude. Because of that, we probably came off as harsh. But I must say it is incredibly frustrating getting blasted when you are just trying to be objective about things for your reader’s benefit. Incredibly.

  54. 54. Double D Says:

Do you know what bothers me most about this whole discussion?

When asked to offer our predictions on the outcome anyone bold enough to project a win for the Chiefs, regardless of whether objective, realistic reasons were given, was crucified as an unobjective, unrealistic homer.

    Why even ask the question?

  55. 55. ArkansasDave Says:

    From wikipedia:
    Fan:
A fan, aficionado or supporter is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking of a sporting club, person, group of persons, company, product, work of art, idea, or trend. Fans of a particular thing constitute its fanbase or fandom. They may start a fan club, hold fan conventions, create fanzines, write fan mail, or engage in similar activities.

Adam, are you a fan of the team? – or the players?
You can’t call yourself a real fan based on this definition.
Come on man, define your fandom. Maybe you’re approaching hooliganism.

    Hooliganism:
refers to unruly and destructive behaviour. Such behaviour is commonly associated with sports fans, particularly supporters of professional football and university sports. The term can also apply to general rowdy behaviour and vandalism, often under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Frustrating… this is my favorite sight. But, I represent a true fan. One that supports the Team. One that I feel I contribute to in the best way I can.
