I’ve already said that I’d ink Billy McMullen, Chris Simms, Ryan Moats and Victor Hobson if I were running the Chiefs. Who would you bring in if you were running the show? A lot of pretty good football players got the axe today, so it’s a tough call.
Which recently released players would you sign if you were the Chiefs GM?

Quinn Gray or Joey Harrington or Andre Woodson: QB
Victor Hobson or Tim Shaw: LB’s
Willie Anderson: OT
We need to bring in a QB. Just one will do, for this year. Next year or the year after, Huard is likely done, but he’s suitable this year. We have GOT to, however; find a QB in place of Thigpen. Quinn Gray looks good, has grrrrreat mobility, and was cut due to Indy only keeping 2 QB’s (the same 2 for what seems like forever, Manning and Sorgi,) not due to a lack of ability. Harrington isn’t really a long term answer, but he gives us a suitable replacement (should Brodie falter) and CAN win games in this league. Woodson just looks like a talented rookie who may have a shot, with his arm, and legs both.
Victor Hobson is a no-brainer. He’s used to 3-4’s, but he would be a decent MLB for us. With Donnie/Demorrio, DJ, and Pat Thomas in the folds, he’d be a nice fit, and add quality depth to our LB corps. Tim Shaw is a guy that played his heart out for the Panthers over the years. He’s not the greatest talent in the world, but the work ethic is good, and guys like that just plain help a young team out. He’d be a nice addition to the OLB depth, if that’s where he’s needed. Donnie/Demorrio and DJ/Shaw give us nice 1-2 punches at both spots, should either player go down (knock on wood.)
Willie Anderson is old. Very old. But he was what Willie Roaf was. He was a franchise LT for years and years. He wouldn’t play on the left side for us, just right tackle, and probably only for one year. But honestly, I’d pay him double what D-Mac is earning this year, cut D-Mac, stick Willie there for this season, and be done with it. You can’t honestly say a guy of Willie’s (either one of them) stature doesn’t rub off on other guys. Guys sponge their knowledge, Taylor, Albert, Richardson, and basically our whole line, with the exception of Waters, would learn TONS just from watching/talking/playing with this guy. It’d be a one-year wonder, most likely, and then he’d call it quits. (He may already retire, after being cut.) But if he can solidify the right side until Barry steps up, or we can nab someone in FA/draft next year for the RT slot… Good. And anything that makes Herb Taylor and Branden Albert even better, is a damn good deal in my book, because they’re going to be the staple of our O-line for years and years to come. We have the cap room to just give him a juicy one-year deal, and our O-line benefits greatly. I’d do it.
There are more people I’d like to get into, but those are my 3 main concerns. QB, should Brodie falter (he has had tons of injury problems, cross your fingers,) LB, since half our LB’s are hurt, and half are under-performing, and AN O-line spot, because as excited as I am about our young guys here, and plain ecstatic about Niswanger and Taylor, you just don’t go from being near the worst in this league to being near the top; in most situations. We could still use all the help we can get.
good post xxxlp – not sure about your QB preferences, but anyone is better than Smalls.
With a powerful running game, with multiple backs that can step in all over the field, a bonafide number one WR, a top 3 (and best all-time) TE, a TRUE blocking FB, (NOT Kris Wilson or Boomer) and a much improved O-line, I don’t think any of those 3 QB’s would be a bad fit. Harrington has won games in the NFL with much worse. Quinn adds an extra dimension to the O, with slashingly quick scrambles, and Woodson, well, he’d be a wild-card. Oh well. Maybe it’s just me.
Willie Anderson…maybe.
Hobson – obvious
Kynan Forney OG – a tough guy guard who is an excellent run blocker. We have to give Adrian Jones his chance, but if he struggles Forney would be perfect.
Montavious Stanley DT – A stout run-stopper type who started 6 games for Atlanta last year. He’s only in his 3rd year and has flashed some in the past.
Keith Zinger TE – completing the trio of Falcons, Zinger was a 7th rdr for them. He profiles as a blocking TE with limited receiving ability. Basically Mike Merritt 2. But since Merritt is hurt he’d be a good replacement.
Larry Grant LB – a 7th rdr for SF. Special teamer type for now, but a better LB prospect than Dacus.
2 guys who are hurt but would be useful if they were healthy: Roydell Williams WR, Dan Bazuin DE.
My 5 cuts for the 5 I suggested signing: Foschi, Dacus, Leggett, Nap Harris, Battle (I guess – lot of RB’s on the wire yesterday- he’s not any better than many of them)
andre woodson, willie anderson, ryan moats, roosevelt colvin
i thought Quinn Gray looked Horrible in the ps. willie anderson could SURELY help us.
harrington SUCKS
SIMMS SHOULD BE A CHIEF RIGHTH NOW!!!!!!!!!
I’m on this Simms bandwagon. Remember when the Jags were thinking about having Gray the starter over Garrard. Whew…
I didn’t think Quinn Gray looked that bad this preseason. He had 10 tds. with 5 ints., 986 yrds. and a rating of 85.6. This is in preseason not playing a full game. Thats close to 250 yds. a game part time. Not too bad in my opinion. Plus he has good size, nice arm , and can run if he has to. I have seen him play in regular season games also and he looked just as good.
Willie Anderson could help us short term. He is a proven vet at the tackle position. Could play either side although I agree with xxxlp that he probably would fit better at right.
As far as Simm’s, I’m not too sold on him, but he would be a significant improvement over Thiggy.
Hobson looks good to me also.
What about the receiver from the Pats…Chad Jaackson. He has a lot of potential and was stuck behind a great receiving corps.
