Branden Albert In Uniform?
Couldn’t sleep. I guess it was the combination of my big fantasy draft tomorrow (my second of a personal record six leagues–yikes!), and the Chiefs‘ last tune-up before these babies actually count. Anyway, I saw this while doing some late-night perusing. It looks like Branden Albert might not only suit up, but also play a few snaps. From The K.C. Star:
Will Branden Albert play? The Chiefs’ rookie left tackle will be in uniform tonight, but if he plays, it would be a handful of snaps at the most. The Chiefs are being careful with Albert and his sprained foot, but they also want to get him some game action before the opener Sept. 7 at New England. Albert is undoubtedly rusty, and coaches will need to weigh risk versus reward.
Regardless if Phat Albert plays tonight or not, this report indicates that his recovery is at least on schedule, if not ahead of schedule. Good news if you ask me. I think what’s even more important than our final win-loss record is guys like Albert and Glenn Dorsey playing the full schedule and making huge strides over the course of the season.

Don’t forget, a lot of rookies “hit the wall” around week 11 or 12. It will be interesting to see how not only Dorsey and Albert, but all these rookies the Chiefs have handle it.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:45 amIt’s one week, and one preseason game where he would only get “a handful of snaps” anyways. I say don’t play him yet.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:59 amI say don’t play him….
I’m glad the foot is feeling better but at 300lbs plus it usually takes an extra week or two compared to someone lets say 235lbs. I want Albert to play this year and not be in the doctors office getting treatment. So bring him along slowly so that he can make strides to be better as the year goes on.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:15 amI think he should be ok taking a few snaps. I am glad the Chiefs are not throwing him to the wolves in a preseason game.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:31 amThe more game experience Herbie gets, the more valuable he’ll be in the long run. Not really sure what’s to be gained by putting Albert in for only a couple of snaps tonight. Not at all worth the risk in my opinion.
August 28th, 2008 at 9:05 amIt’s good to hear he’s feeling better. I imagine they only want to get him a few snaps at game speed so they can evaluate where he actually is in his recovery.
August 28th, 2008 at 2:00 pmI’m happy to see him participate in a game environment prior to the regular season. I know he and the coaches wouldn’t put him in if they thought he was still questionable. He is much to valuable to lose for the season. I think it will be just enough to get him warmed up and tested a few times. This will help his own confidence in being fully healed as well.
