A.A.D.Q.: Gameday, Baby!

One more preseason game and then it’s on to the real thing. Who needs to step up tonight? A lot of guys.

I think Tyler Thigpen and most of the second-tier receivers need to play well to secure their jobs. The Chiefs‘ passing game needs help, especially with Will Franklin on the mend. If nobody steps up, I’m almost positive we’ll import help when some decent players get cut later this week. Our linebackers will also be watched closely, as will our two kickers. It should be interesting. Well, at least for a half or so.

Which players need to play well tonight in order to make the roster of 53?

I really don’t think we’re going to import anyone..Franklin will be back possibly by the first game of the season..We have Darling (who apparently is the second coming of Eddie Kennison, ha I can’t figure out how this guy is our #2 guy, but regardless herm believes he’s good, I think Herm is ridiculous) and we have Maurice Price, and Webb. We’re far more deeper at WR than I think the Chiefs have been in a long long time. Even if we’re without Franklin we still have Bowe, Darling, Price, and Webb which was far better than anything last year we had..

Once we get Franklin back I’m hoping Herm makes it Bowe, Franklin, and Price (all young, all good, and all have yet to reach their potential)

Webb is terrible. Any time anyone mentions him on this site–especially favorably–that will be my response.

I do like Price and Franklin…and even still Darling. At the same time, Franklin is a hurt rookie, and the other two aren’t sure bets at this point. The import comment was just as much, if not more, about another quarterback as well.

In my opinion Webb should be starting and if Darling doesn’t show something this game, he might be.

I think Pat Thomas needs to show something. He was terrible against Miami. With Harris getting healthy, Thomas needs to give the Chiefs a reason to start him.

I puked in my mouth a little at the “LT” ad at the bottom of this page… and to the right of this page. You’re sellin’ out!

  5. 5. Double D Says:

    Hey, what about Sippio??? :p

And I could be mistaken, but it sure seemed to me like Webb was the only receiver not dropping passes in that Miami game. Not saying I prefer him over Price, I’m just saying yo.

Based on what I’ve seen, our 4 WRs right now are:
    1. Bowe
    2. Franklin
    3. Price
    4. Webb

Based on what I’ve seen and heard, I expect our 4 WRs will be:
    1. Bowe
    2. DVD
    3. Franklin
    4. Price

I think Price is a lock right now unless he majorly screws up tonight. I like what Webb brings in terms of toughness but I think we already have that covered with Bowe and Franklin. Price (and presumbably Darling) give us better ability to stretch the field which a key dimension we’ve been lacking for years. Price has also shown toughness too which you can’t help but love.

One thing I really want to see is Cottam and Charles contributing to our ability to move the ball. Was that first game a fluke or do we really have something with those two guys? Shame that Franklin is out.

Another question is whether we see DVD catch a ball this preseason. Maybe he did and I just missed it? Either way, it would be reassuring to see a little sump’n sump’n of what he’s supposed to be.

On the defensive side, I want to see progress from all of our front 4 now that they’ve been practicing and playing together for a couple of weeks. As for LBs, I’m kind of encouraged that both Donnie and Nap are back in the mix - if they show something that’s great but I’m keeping my expectations in check for now.

I actually think I’m okay with where we are on kickers. Novak and Barth seem indistinguishable to me so all things being equal, I say we’d be best off going with the younger of the two. We’ll know soon enough.

I will also be looking for a win. We need the confidence and winning games was, after all, one of the major goals set by the team for this season.

Lastly, I say it’s now or never for Thiglet. If he stinks it up again, then we seriously need to stop wasting time with the guy and find his replacement (Dennis Dixon).

I’m just waiting to see if Devard Darling even has a jersery with his name on it…

Has that guy even suited up? I didn’t know that he was as good as LT and didn’t have to play. What are we thinking with this offense? I’m so totaly pissed off at our coaches game plans. I just hope they prove me wrong.

  7. 7. Adam Says:

Again, Webb is terrible. I cannot let him get praised on this site without issuing that rebuttal. If he starts, I might just watch my fantasy team play.

And I don’t recall Mo Price dropping a pass last game. I believe he caught the only pass thrown to him and lost his balance running after the catch

  8. 8. JASON Says:

webb is terrible, the teachers pet needs to go somewhere else.

  9. 9. Double D Says:

Well, again, I’m not saying Webb ought to be the #3 or #4 WR but I do think you (Adam et al) do come down on him a bit harsh. As I’ve pointed out before, Webb’s size makes him a good target, he is fearless across the middle and, truth be told, he has brought down a few key catches along the way. As best I recall, he also ranked somewhere around 85th among all NFL receivers last year which (considering our lack of a passing attack last year) tells me the guy is at least NFL-caliber. I just happen to believe we now have better options than him right now. I know he’s certainly more of an asset than Slippio-through-the-hands (yes, that was a dig).

  10. 10. JohnNdallas Says:

Here is a couple of guys I think the chiefs should look at Chris Liwienski O.T. Played for the Jags last yr. and Derrick Pope L.B.

If I understand it right neither of these guy would have to clear waivers, they could be signed as free agents,Can any one confirm that?

Liwienski is probably older than the chiefs want to go right now but (a solid vet at tackle would be nice)Pope is only 26 and Herm said he didn’t want any one over 26…worth a look??

  11. 11. JohnNdallas Says:

This sucks!! ESPN is reporting that PACBOY Jones was reinstated for the cowPUNKS!!

  12. 12. Adam Says:

Heaven forbid a guy get a second chance! While Pacman Jones has been a disgrace to the game, I honestly believe he’s trying to change and keep his nose clean. I do not believe that about Chris Henry.

  13. 13. JohnNdallas Says:

Burned in my mind the video of him mugging for the camera with that match stick (or what it was) sticking out of his mouth! It disgusted me!, Maybe because it hit a personal nerve, should have kept that thought to myself.

  14. 14. Adam Says:

No, not necessarily. I have no problem with somebody not liking Pacman. I just also believe in second and even third chances in certain instances.

  15. 15. TXCHIEFAN Says:

I believe in second and third chances as well. As rar as Adam Jones is concerned, Lord knows I made my own mistakes as a young man. As long as he is honestly trying to change, who am I to judge?

The same chances need to be afforded to our team. This season will be full of ups and downs, mistakes, and challenges. As long as the team learns from their mistakes and make adjustments to improve, then I’ll be (hopefully) happy.

  16. 16. sandya Says:

Adam I honestly don’t understand your intense hatred for all things webb..No one said he is Jerry Rice..But he is only starting his third year and actually shows potential from time to time..He’s young and this year I think we willl get a good glimpse of whether he really has a whole lot to offer..

On a second note..Why am I the only one that is completely dismayed about the whole Devard Darling being our #2..Does it not seem as if Herm has just given the job to the guy because we signed him during free agency..

I could be a complete ignorant fan since I haven’t been to any preseason practices however this is what we do know : 1.Darling caught around 28 passes in 4 years at Baltimore
    2. He was the 4th receiver at Baltimore which is saying something since they are not known for their WR corps
    3. We picked him up without a fight from anyone else and the Ravens willingly let him go
    4. He has not caught 1 pass yet for the chiefs
    5. Price and Franklin are 4-5 years younger and have shown much more for the chiefs

How fucking stupid is Herm Edwards

  17. 17. Adam Says:

Let’s see what Darling does tonight and in week one. Darling is a Coach Price (our new WRs coach) guy, so, sure, he could be getting shown some preferential treatment. Naw, the Chiefs would never do that!
