A.A.D.Q: Reader Fantasy Question
This is one about You Know Who from reader Jester (that’s a great name for a member of the Addict Asylum, by the way):
Here is an A.A.D.Q. for ya…Would anyone take Brodie Croyle as a QB (either starter or backup) on their fantasy team?
FYI, if you want to submit a question for A.A.D.Q. consideration, e-mail me at arrowheadaddict@gmail.com.
So…yay or nay for your fantasy squad?

Whether you love or hate the Chiefs (i assume we all love them) Croyle is an inconsistent QB in a low-risk, ball-control offense…I would probably not take him unless I had little other choice…
August 21st, 2008 at 1:57 amI disagree Woody. I would take a flier on Croyle as a late round pick for my backup QB, simply because there is so much potential there. Think about it - if you had DBowe and Tony G to throw too plus LJ and the speedy J CHarles catching passes out of the backfield you may have some pretty decent numbers.
Sure, it might be a homer pick but I think you’ve got to take him in the late rounds. Worst case scenario you have to drop him and pick up somoene like Jake Delhomme because your starter got hurt - or - best case scenario Croyle puts up good numbers and you can use him as a starter, depending on your QBs matchups.
August 21st, 2008 at 8:25 amBy the way, thanks for posting my question Adam. Being on the AA site like this is a proud moment for me. lol
August 21st, 2008 at 8:27 amI took a chance on him with one of my earlier drafts. Late rounds to back up Peyton. Manning has a Bye in week 4 so I figured I’d throw Croyle in if he fairs half way decent weeks 1-3. Plus thats the week we play Denver at Arrowhead so it could be good.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:16 amDepends - are you looking to win your league’s “Super Bowl” or its “Toilet Bowl”
August 21st, 2008 at 10:24 amBuckTheFroncos…Love that name! I hope you don’t mind that I stole that as one of my fantasy team names.
August 21st, 2008 at 10:31 amIt depends, is the league going to be 30 teams deep? Then maybe there might be a chance I’d have him on my team. Why waste a roster spot on a guy that is on nobodys radar. I wouldn’t consider him a top 25 qb. When you play fantasy, you have to put your homerism aside and think like all the other guys who aren’t Chiefs fans, and wouldn’t have him on their team in a million years. If he starts off good, he will still be waiting patietnly on the waiver wire for your call, because everyone is so skeptical. Only 4 Chiefs should be drafted, Gonzalez, The Show, LJ, and maybe Kolby Smith, as a handcuff. Don’t draft him under any circumstances, I can’t make it any clearer.

August 21st, 2008 at 1:50 pmI’d take him if I had any time for FF. How about this as a poll question:
Who will put up better numbers this season, Brodie or Eli?
I boldly choose Brodie.
August 21st, 2008 at 2:11 pmmgullicutty……..
If you had time for fantasy football then you would know not to take Brodie over Eli. I hate to say it but I would take Eli over Brodie. I would take Brodie as my third option. I’m in a league where we keep 3 qb’s and I would grab him in the 15th or 16th round. I like the guy and want him to succeed. It’s just that you can brab him that late in the rounds. Love you Brodie but my fantasy league is important to me.
August 21st, 2008 at 2:20 pmI still wouldnt take him…there are too many other good options…I think…
R.I.P. Gene Upshaw…
August 21st, 2008 at 2:35 pmWell, I must confess, I did sign up for a yahoo league this year with some GLB buddies but I never got around to picking my picks so I ended up with Mcnabb at QB. As far as I can tell, Croyle wasn’t chosen by anyone.
August 21st, 2008 at 4:05 pmI’m about to find out Jester… having never participated in a Fantasy League of any kind before… I just opted into the first AA league today… and I have NO idea what I’m doing either!!
I guess I’ll just dive in and see what happens… and see if I can learn how to be competent at least.
August 21st, 2008 at 4:08 pmTook Croyle as my very last pick as a backup.
August 21st, 2008 at 4:23 pmI wouldn’t draft him.. I would venture to say he wouldn’t get drafted in 90% of the leagues out there.
With that said, I will definatley keep an eye on him early, to see how it goes. I think he has tremendous potential, and obviously some weapons, a better Coordinator, and even potentially a better line this year.
August 21st, 2008 at 11:15 pmI know most will think I am crazy, and I have kept it to myself for the most part.. but I think the chiefs could quite possibly make a wild card run this year.
Allow me to explain my reasoning..
With as horrible as we were last year, there were 4 games we lost by a total of 14 points (Colts, Raiders, Lions, Jets). The Bears game, a blocked field goal and a special teams play (Hester return for a TD) A Pass to Parker INT’d in the end zone etc.. Pakers we had the lead with 5 mins to go in the game. Denver the first game we had the lead at the half, and 4 turnovers. Loss to the Colts with 4 seconds left. Bolts 2nd game..tied at half, 4 turnovers again. Tennessee we are up 14-10 at half, 3 more turnovers kill us… and on and on.
With as bad as our OLine, play calling was, LJ out etc.. we were in almost every game and the majority of them were lost by mistakes, not being right out outplayed. WE lost the majority of them by giving them away.
We have an easier schedule this year, conference isnt near as fierce as it use to be, a much better and experienced coordinator, a better O Line, probably a better D Line, LJ.., better speed on the outside etc..
We are going to have mistakes with a young football team, but we are going to be in just about every single game we play this season. Question is, will we not turn the ball over and make stupid mistakes? 8-8 is easily in reach.. couple breaks 10-6.
I hope I can say I told you so!
August 22nd, 2008 at 12:03 amMost losses in the NFL DO come by a slight margin.. There aren’t many games where the teams are blown out, compared to 17-14, 21-24, 28-21 etc games. We very well could be the Saints of a couple years ago, but realistically I’m looking at 6-7 W’s with a ton of upside heading into ‘09.
August 22nd, 2008 at 12:09 amI agree, alot of the games do come by a slight margin, however they lost by slight margin’s in most of the games giving turnover ratios like 4:1 3:0 etc.. No LJ, no Line, and the previously mentioned OCoordinator gift job. Not being able to stop the run etc..
August 22nd, 2008 at 12:14 amOh I completely understand what you guys are saying; I’m just trying to be completely unbiased. I think our O-line is improved three-fold from last year, even with Adrian Jones and D-Mac on the right side. Once Albert comes back, it should be even better. That and mixed up playcalling, especially some trick plays, which we haven’t seen in awhile, will give us another 5-10-15 minutes of ball control, which we got owned in last year. That gives our D fresher legs, and we should be much improved there over last year (assuming our LB’s don’t completely fall to crap.) I wouldn’t be surprised if we manage to sneak into the playoffs, but if we do, I don’t see us going far. I wouldn’t mind it, but I ain’t expecting it.
And if it’s a choice between missing the playoffs by a one game, or missing it by five games, I’ll choose the latter. I’d much rather have a higher pick, (and easier schedule) heading into next year, if we’re going to miss the playoffs anyway this year.
I don’t like seeing the Chiefs lose, period, but if it means in the long run we’ll end up winning far more games (look at SD as an example, they were crap, got LT, linemen, solid defensive contributors, and turned that franchise around,) I’ll gladly take that, as I’m in with the Chiefs for the long haul, not just a year or two.
