Wes Dacus & The Rebels?
As you’ve probably heard, the Chiefs‘ linebacker woes continue. Demorrio Williams is now out with a cracked bone in his hand. He will miss the final two preseason games and play with a cast when the season starts. Wes Dacus will start in his place.
Who in the hell is Wes Dacus, you ask? Well, when you search him on Wikipedia you get nothing. That always scares me about a player. When you search him on Google, you find a 1960’s Canadian instrumental band called Wes Dakus & the Rebels. You have to search Weston Dacus exactly to really find anything on him at all. Scary.
Anyway, Dacus is an undrafted rookie out of Arkansas. The Chiefs obviously like him, and apparently he can play all three linebacker positions. All I know is that if this trend continues, Derrick Johnson is going to be in the defensive huddle come opening day saying who the hell are these guys? Pat Thomas? Wes Dacus? Huh? What? Unless D.J. also…not going there. Knock on wood.

I’d bet that Wes Dacus is just as scared as we are right now! Can he sing too?
August 20th, 2008 at 4:43 pmThat’s a pretty rare name right there. Ya think maybe the old Canook did a show or two at the Arkansas State Fair back in the day?
August 20th, 2008 at 4:51 pmLMAO! Little Wes’ ma was so sick of sleeping with family members that she jumped at the chance to be with a sanger. Man, that was just wrong. Oh well…
August 20th, 2008 at 5:02 pmWhat about Naps? Is Gun telling us that he is DONE?!?! He wasn’t that bad last year and I’d think he’d be better than Weston Dacus but who am I to judge…never seen the dude play a down, maybe he’s a baller.
August 20th, 2008 at 5:05 pmHe is NOT out “indefinitely” if he is planning to play in New England…
but it does still blow…
August 20th, 2008 at 5:22 pmThanks for the heads up on that oversight, Woody
August 20th, 2008 at 5:30 pmoh yes…that’s me…
Is anyone on here planning on being at the Home Opener? or will there be a later post on that or what?
August 20th, 2008 at 5:33 pmYeah, sure, we are going to definitely do some A.A. get-together post. I’m arranging an Austin watch party for the Denver game, and I’m sure we could get something going at Arrowhead. I will definitely do a networking open thread so that people can meet up, exchange tickets, etc…it will also be good for us out-of-towners and -staters. I have Direct Ticket, but not all of us do.
Great suggestion. On top of it today, woody!
August 20th, 2008 at 6:23 pmBack on the 14th I posted about Dacus based on what I had read about him and what Gunther had said about him. Here’s a recap for those who missed it:
Gunther: “Wes Dacus started a little slow here, but in the last week and a half, he’s really stepped up. I saw him play as a sophomore at Arkansas and I always kind of liked him. We had a one one-on-one coverage drill the other day and Tony Gonzalez was standing behind me and he said ‘Damn’ when he watched Dacus. He said ‘Gun, he moves like a corner.’ He really has those kinds of skills. He can drop his hips and he’s really fast. He’s smart and tough.”
Now he ran a somewhat slow 40, which probably kept him from getting drafted, but it may have been just a bad day for him if Gun and Tony think he’s that quick. Probably just a special teamer this year, but who knows. His scouting report says he’s very heady, so maybe he can get in on D quickly.
August 20th, 2008 at 6:27 pmThanks for the recap. I look forward to seeing him in a game. If TG and Gunther can have such positive comments, I have optimism.
August 20th, 2008 at 6:48 pmMaine, you are always up on the sleepers–especially at LB. Well played, sir.
August 20th, 2008 at 7:07 pmAdam,
You know that’s one of the best things about the NFL. I love how no matter where you were drafted or even if you were not drafted - if you show you can play - then you will play. Kimble Anders, Eric Hicks, Anthony Davis, Brian Waters (just to name a few) - all UDFA. You see guys like Ryan Sims who have all the measurables and they simply can’t hack it in the NFL. Then you get a guy like Dantrell Savage and he has no measurables but hes got the “want to”. Of course, we might be playing a lot of sleepers this year if players keep getting hurt LOL.
August 20th, 2008 at 8:57 pmThere’s no “heart” test at the combine. Maybe they should consider the Krumrie Drill?
August 20th, 2008 at 10:08 pmWoody,
I’m headed to the home opener. Got married Saturday and got a late gift from my best man, yesterday. Chiefs tickets. They’re way up high, but I love the intensity of that stadium.
It’ll be a lot easier to start rootin’ against D-Mac with fellow Chief fans around as opposed to Non-KC-Fan-Arkansawyers.
August 21st, 2008 at 12:28 pmI lived in Arkansas for Dacus’ entire college career. They were a fun team to watch, and I’m afraid we’re going to get to know a few of their higher profile players all too well this year (RB McFadden, Oakland, and FB Peyton Hillis, Denver). Dacus was a great linebacker and has tremendous speed. One thing I’ve always liked about him is that he rarely missed tackles, and wraps up really well. I’m excited to see him play!
August 21st, 2008 at 2:53 pmTalk about a great wedding gift! Season opener tickets! That’s awesome, Arkansas Dave. Sorry about the Arkansas jokes, fellas. I grew up in Springfield after moving from K.C., so Arkansas jokes go with the territory

August 21st, 2008 at 3:48 pmIf you cut off the boothill of Missouri and gave it to Arkansas, it would raise the average IQ of both states by 10 points.
I don’t get it…. haha
