“Next time I’m driving home from the bar, not Jared.”

August 6th, 2008 at 6:40 pmI was up for signing him as a FA, but it’s just not a good fit for either side at that price. We’d be giving up a third to MAYBE sneak into the playoffs.
Love the Jared line, by the way.

PERFECT, no one will know!
August 6th, 2008 at 10:05 pmOFF TOPIC but breakin news: Brett Favre to the Jets, for a future single draft pick that’s value is determined by how well the Jets do, all signs point to Pennington being released (by every report I’ve seen.) Finally some of the Favre media hype is over (and yet so much more is coming our way.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:40 pmJust to clarify, I meant to say ‘Brett Favre to the Jets, for a BELIEVED future single draft pick’, the compensation is not clearly released, yet.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:50 pmThe report I was hearing on the radio on the way home from work tonight was a 4th round pick that would become a 2nd round pick based on Favre’s performance.
I don’t really want Favre to be a Jet though :(. I don’t like the Jets.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:41 pmHere’s the report from NFL.com:
“The Packers will receive a conditional fourth-round draft pick in the trade, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports. It turns into a third-round pick if he plays in 50 percent of the plays this season, a second-rounder if he plays in 70 percent of the plays and the Jets qualify for the playoffs , and a first-round pick if he plays in 80 percent of the plays and Jets make it to the Super Bowl .”
So probably a second rounder.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:45 pmActually, didn’t read the “playoffs” part. Probably a 3rd rounder. 2nd if they’re lucky.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:46 pmI think more highly of the Jets than the Bucs–better fans.
I’m almost positive they are going to give up a second-rounder. That team REALLY improved this offseason.
And Tamba got gashed in between his eyes and had to get a bunch of stitches. They kept opening up, too.
August 7th, 2008 at 12:26 amI’ve lost a lot of respect for the Packers throughout this whole ordeal. Which is sad, because I really used to be pretty fond of them as an organization.
Here’s to hoping Brodie Croyle blows Aaron Rodgers’s numbers out of the water!
August 7th, 2008 at 12:35 amI don’t think the Jets improved enough for a 2nd rounder from this. They’re still not going to beat the Patsies for the division crown, I think we can all pretty much agree on that. Although in a year or two it will be a totally different story. And the AFC is just too stacked to FAVOR them on getting a wildcard. Not with teams like Jacksonville and Indianapolies (one of whom will most likely get a wild card) and how the rest of the AFC shakes out. It’ll be tough. I’d say they get a 3rd rounder, but I wouldn’t be utterly surprised at the 2nd. If they get a first though, I’ll shit my pants. Not this year, Favrey-boy.
And who knows, due to the Madden curse, he very well could get less than 50% of the snaps, rendering it a 4th rounder…..
I’m just glad this business got done and hopefully we don’t hear much (after a few days’ initial buzz) and can concentrate more on the Chiefs than on Broadway Brett.
August 7th, 2008 at 12:39 amI think this whole mess is a direct result of the Madden Curse, actually. I swear it’s real. “HA! The Madden Curse can’t strike a RETIRED player!” Think again.
I think we all know that the AFC is pretty well locked up. The playoffs will include: the Patriots, the Colts, the Chargers, the Jaguars, the Steelers, and a surprise team. The Jags and Steelers are tentative, but very probable. The common consensus is that the Browns or the Bills will take that last spot. Who knows? I don’t, but I do know that it probably won’t be the Jets.
Broadway Brett the New York Jet. Whoda thunk it?
