Looks like another former Chief has found a new home with the Patriots. He will fit right in with one of his fellow offensive lineman.
Offensive lineman John Welbourn, who started every game at right guard last season for the Kansas City Chiefs, signed yesterday with the New England Patriots. The Patriots released rookie defensive lineman Chris Norwell.
Welbourn joins the Patriots about a month before they open their NFL season against his former team in Foxborough on Sept. 7. He was released in February after his fourth season with the Chiefs.

Speaking of the offensive line, ESPN’s Matt Williamson was kind enough to provide some fresh material for Herm to post in the locker room. Williamson ranks our OL at 32nd.

32nd? That’s just harsh.
It’s easy to understand putting KC near the bottom after their showing last season but he’s also got Miami sitting at 18th and NYJ at 13th. Really?
Well at least we still have one pro-bowler, but after seeing what these guys did last year I would probably put us there too.
Man, with NE signing guys’ like weignman. You think their offensive line should be ranked where ours is.
So just because we didn’t use all of our first day picks on linemen we get pushed down to dead last… I’d say we’re at least in the top 25….
Another thought….NE’s offensive line is ranked fourth, but they got straight up bitched slapped against the giants pass rush….a little biased if you ask me. What else is new?
New England signed Welbourn. Weigmann is with the Broncos.
And New England’s O-line is very good. The Giants just happen to have an excellent pass rush.
Sorry, my bad. I guess my point was that Welbourn sucked really bad last year. What pisses me off is that ESPN will see this as a “genius” move by bilicheat. Just like when they reached for Jared(sp?) Mayo in the draft. He was barely top 15 wasn’t he? But they still kissed NE’s ass. I think age will creep up on them this year.
Well Schef, as much as I hate the Patsies, I must say, with their record breaking offensive season last year, their line Does deserve some credit. And the Super Bowl is the proof of it. When the line played well, they were undefeated, broke records, and looked badass. When they played badly, and not as one unit, Tom looked terrible, they looked pathetic, and they lost their first (and the most important) game of the season. 4th is probably about where I’d stick them, realistically.
And D, don’t forget, the Jets did get alot of free agent signings this off-season, Tony Richardson will help that line out even though he’s technically not on it. Damien Woody also shores up a side, and they have 2 decent young guys in D’Brick and Mangold. I can see that. But Miami that high? They have one good linemen (other than Jake Long) and that’s their polenesian Center, who’s name escapes me (again) but who is I think a 2nd year guy this year. Their team was 1-15, and they’re 18th? Btw, no I didn’t read the article, it’s storming like a mofo here, and power keeps shutting off. I’m trying to pump this out quick. But to the writer of that article for putting us last, and the Dolphins 18th. Puuhhhlease; ghet tha fhawk outta heure.
Oh I hope Welbourn starts in the season opener. Tank can just step on him on his way to the golden boy.
NE’s O-line situation is not looking pretty. Go check out a recent article on Gretz’ website. If we get a good passrush on them we may *actually* have a shot at winning.
