A.A.D.Q.: Nicknaming Brodie
This isn’t going to be the most original post, considering that Arrowhead Pride has already given this a whirl once. I’m not necessarily the biggest Brodie Croyle believer, but being impartial and giving everybody a shot at nicknaming a Chiefs player who’s obviously becoming extremely popular is the right thing to do. Remember, I do actually like the kid and am pulling for him, even if I’m not gaga over his chances.
Anyway, this is a hard one, but we can come up with something. Croyle Tide (a play on Roll Tide)? The Rifle (his canon arm and love for hunting)? 4,000 B.C. (wishful thinking?)? Bama Ray (better than Priest’s Blu-Ray, and a play on gamma ray) is probably my favorite of the ones I came up with. That’s all I’ve got right now.
Let us hear it, Addicts! What should Brodie Croyle’s nickname be?

Oh, and we are going to do a whole series of these. Brandon Flowers definitely needs one. Jarrad Page. Devard Darling (maybe Double D can lend him his?). But Brodie really needs one.
August 4th, 2008 at 11:53 pmStart thinking ahead was the point of that comment…whoops…
August 4th, 2008 at 11:53 pmI don’t know. He has a good solid quarterback name as it is. “Brodie Croyle” is fine with me.
August 4th, 2008 at 11:56 pmBrodie Croyle is a great QB name, but even Joe Montana, who had a great QB name, had a nickname (Joe Cool). If he makes it, what are we gonna put on the posters? Bama Ray would look pretty good.
And, yes, I’m obsessed with nicknames. They are fun, add a level of intimacy to the player-fan relationship and get fans involved. Plus, if done right they are just cool.
August 5th, 2008 at 12:59 amI think nicknaming everybody kind of takes away from the specialness of a nickname. But that’s just my two cents. Nickname away
Though “B-Cro” is always a casual option.
August 5th, 2008 at 1:54 amOr BroCro.
August 5th, 2008 at 1:55 amBroCro isn’t bad. And I hear you on nicknaming everyone. I do think our stars should have some kind of nickname, though, even if it is just a variation of their name like D.J. or Tony G. Not everyone needs to be a fun one like Bonecrusher, One Man Gang, Swamp Thing or The Show. Bums aren’t going to get monikers, unless they get negative ones, i.e. Route 71 and I-65. I wish we could have come up with something really insulting for Eddie Drummond. That piece of shit. Whoever wins the job this year will look like Devin Hester, because he’s not exactly a hard act to follow.
BroCro is pretty good. That and Bama Ray could give us a great pair to play around with. Hey, I’m trying to get everyone excited, myself included, about your boy–humor me
August 5th, 2008 at 2:11 amWell I’M already excited about him. In recent days I’ve started getting a little sick to my stomach thinking about the upcoming season and I’ve been searching Brodie Croyle a lot on Google just to try to catch a feeling for other people’s opinions on his chances.
I’m nervous for him and our Chiefs. But in sort of a good way. Like I just hope they can live up to the potential I think they have.
And yeah, I’m actually really starting to like “BroCro”.
August 5th, 2008 at 2:57 am“Brittle Brodie” or “Broken Brodie”? Might be the names we use after this season.
In all seriousness, how about just a cool nickname that doesn’t play on his first or last name. How about Brodie “Country” Croyle or something similar?
August 5th, 2008 at 5:26 amI have always just called him BroCro in games. When I am screaming at the tv its hard to complete coherent sentences. I think that should be the go to name, and ‘Bama Ray is pretty good too, better than i got this morning. The only thing I can come up with is Brodie “The Stick” Croyle, in reference to the fact that he is freakin skinny, and he speaks softy and carries a big stick in that arm of his. Eh…nevermind I don’t even like it.
Am I the only one who thinks Kelli Croyle deserves a nickname? Maybe Double D should go to her and not Devard Darling? October Gonzalez probably deserves one too….just saying
. Here is hoping my wife doesn’t check the blogs today! Oh well, she has always been gaga over Tony anyways.
August 5th, 2008 at 7:31 amJethrow
August 5th, 2008 at 8:09 amBroCro is ok, but if we are going to call Dorsey Swamp Thing due to his LSU roots, we HAVE to call Brodie Bama Ray due to his Alabama roots. Just a thought.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:36 amJethrow, lol.
SBC – How many times did you see Brodie live in college? I thought I remember you saying you lived in Bama.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:58 amI have been calling Bowe a different nickname ever since he was drafted. I realize that he has “The Show” tattooed on his arm now, but it won’t stop my nickname calling during games.
Dwayne “The Arrow” Bowe
As for Brodie Croyle…his best strength is his arm (wife not included). Just like how Joe Montana’s best strength was his composure (Joe Cool). The nickname has to be a play on his arm somehow…what about
Brodie “The Crimson Cannon” Croyle
August 5th, 2008 at 9:00 amHow about:
Brodie “That’s right, I’m hittin’ that” Croyle. Perhaps not too family friendly, and a little long. But it does have a nice, pun-ish quality given his gunslinger mentality.
August 5th, 2008 at 11:41 ambas, LMAO! Pretty damn funny. I still think Miss October is hotter, though.
August 5th, 2008 at 11:43 amZach:
I’m an Tide fan, so I watched Brodie a good bit. Why?
August 5th, 2008 at 11:46 amI just figured you might have a nickname from his college days.
(Just curious, does being a tide fan make you biased towards Brodie?)
August 5th, 2008 at 11:53 amEverybody here just calls him by his name. Commonly, just say “Brodie” and people will know who you’re talking about.
As far as being biased..
I was interested when I saw somewhere that projected us to select Croyle in the draft. I was really excited when we actually did pick him, because it’s neat to get the chance to root for the same guy in the NFL you did in college, you know? Well, I also really like him because I got to know him as a player when he played in college. Plus if he can stay our starter, I can hang a Brodie Croyle Chiefs jersey on my wall and it would really bring my whole room together (I have Bama and Chiefs stuff hanging up). And they sell those jersey’s in Hibbett’s Sports stores around here so it would be pretty easy to get.
So yeah, I really want him to succeed. But I don’t know that I’m BIASED necessarily.
August 5th, 2008 at 12:27 pmWell I am biased towards K-State players because I graduated there. So you are going to be somewhat biased to wanting that player to succeed.
Even though I hate the Cowboys and Chargers I still want to see Terrance Newman and Darren Sproles do well. So if you dont want to use the word BIASED then you at least have a favorable opinion of them.
August 5th, 2008 at 12:43 pmI can understand that, SeanB. Terrence Newman was my boy in college, so…I root for all the guys we knew in college. I also pull for almost all K-Staters, although when guys like Jarrod Cooper put on the Silver and Black, that is where I draw the line
Couldn’t really root for Terry Pierce either once he donned that Navy and Orange either.
August 5th, 2008 at 1:05 pmSome people down here take it too far, to be honest. Since Alabama doesn’t have pro football, college football is king. So when Shaun Alexander started performing really well for the Seattle, the Seahawks became a lot of people’s “favorite team”. Lame.
August 5th, 2008 at 1:18 pmI was thinking the Mountian Climber, or the Mountian Master. Obviously in refence to his wife.
Crimson Cannon sounds good, and it can also relate to his Bama days. If he does well and we can get it to stick, he cant go somewhere and use the nickname.
August 5th, 2008 at 2:40 pmThe Red Rocket? Rainbow (City) Rocket?
August 5th, 2008 at 3:06 pmRed Rocket? Is that a Charles Haley reference? Rainbow Rocket could have been when he was with the 49ers…
August 5th, 2008 at 3:18 pmThe Rifleman
August 5th, 2008 at 6:11 pmChuck Person might sue somebody
August 5th, 2008 at 8:34 pmDarling is easy – DVD.
I’m liking Crimson Cannon for Brodie. Or since he’s known to be a gunslinger you could use a quote from one of the greatest movies of all time, Boondock Saints:
“Wyatt f*ckin Earp!”
August 6th, 2008 at 2:41 pmuh kruger26… that would be Chuck CONNERS
August 6th, 2008 at 2:42 pmChuck Person. CMF, are you getting dementia already? First the Dennis Johnson episode, now this…lol…
It looks like Bama Ray and Crimson Canon are the faves right now. Might have to run a poll to break the tie.
And DVD is a good one.
