One Man Gang To No Show?
Update: Jared Allen did not make the trip. This is really too bad, as I think we all were looking forward to him taking on Phat Albert. From Red Zone:
As reported earlier Thursday, Minnesota Vikings and former Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen did not travel with the Vikings on Thursday for the teams’ joint practice in River Falls, Wis.
According to Vikings coach Brad Childress, that could very well be the case. From the Access Vikings:
Today’s main Vikings story — at least the one that didn’t focus on Brett Favre — was all about Jared Allen’s return to see his Kansas City Chiefs teammates during tonight’s joint practice in River Falls, Wis.
Seemed like a good story idea. Doesn’t seem so good now. There appears a very good chance that Allen will be among the veterans who won’t be making the trip from Mankato. In Brad Childress’ defense, he tried to warn reporters following the afternoon practice on Wednesday.
“I don’t know if they will see him,” Childress said when asked about Allen being able to visit with his ex-teammates. “I’m going to be selective in the guys that need to compete over there because I want to look at as many young guys as I can.”
Looks like the highly anticipated Branden Albert-Jared Allen showdown might not go down. Shucks! That would blow for all of us Chiefs fans.

Let Jared save it up for the season.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:59 pmI just figured Branden Albert might be able to give him a little more fight than Bryant McKinnie has been. You know?
July 31st, 2008 at 3:05 pmyea..but honestly do u think brandon albert can keep up with him? jared is bad ass man

July 31st, 2008 at 3:24 pmHe’s frikkin Barney now.
July 31st, 2008 at 3:25 pmI think the problem was finding him a designated driver to make the trip.
July 31st, 2008 at 3:37 pmLOL Sudden
July 31st, 2008 at 3:40 pmMy main disappointment is that Albert doesn’t get to face a major force. Those would have been some damn good practice reps.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:23 pmYeah I was really looking forward to JA making the trip and for Branden Albert to be able to practice against him.
Brad Childress can kiss my ass. Look at young guys my ass. I think he’s just scared.
Oh well, he looks like a cracked out Andy Reid anyway.
We usually play them twice though. Maybe he’ll let #69 practice when we make the trip up there.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:31 pmEasy on the Barney insults–you got two K-Staters running this puppy
July 31st, 2008 at 4:51 pmSeems like a lot of botheration over a practice. You Chiefs fans just don’t have much else to look forward to, do you?
July 31st, 2008 at 5:46 pmI believe it was your guys throwing punches at us last year during practice

Thanks for all the updates Jason! Love hearing that LJ is looking good and Albert seems to be ok.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:28 pmThanks, Jason!
Great to hear that L.J. is ready to wreak havoc, and also that Albert is OK. We all already knew that D-Bo was the show.
On a different topic, Huard and Thigpen have been horrible. This is has nothing to do with Brodie, but regardless of what you think of him it’s hard to say with a straight face that the other two are going to cut it. This is going to be a future topic with the way these two have been stinking up the joint.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:52 pmHuard will be fine. He’s looked good in practice with the first team… not so hot with the 2nd unit, but you could blame part of that on the improved D.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:13 pmI’ve lost faith in Huard, and that doesn’t even matter. At his age, he’s not a long-term option. Why have him around at this point when you could go out and get a guy with some long-term potential? A player who coincides with our rebuilding project and serves as Croyle insurance? Especially when Damon has trade value. I actually think he has just as much as Dante and Trent had last year.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:27 pmAdam, I’m actually pretty disappointed to hear that about Thigpen, man. I’ve been getting kind of excited about him in the past couple weeks. You know, just in case Brodie flops.
On another note, go LJ! Performing well against the best run D in the league is a good sign. I know this isn’t even preseason yet but let me have my hope.
August 1st, 2008 at 1:40 amAnd on yet another note- woot for Herb Taylor. Like I said; at the end of last year he stepped in at LT and did a more-than-serviceable job, IN GAME. That’s more experience than alot of guys on our line have. Well not alot, but a few. I still want to see either RG/RT (whichever D-Mac is least proficient at) become Herb Taylor’s spot. I loved this guy at the end of last year when I saw him. And it just keeps gettin’ better. Mark my words he’ll be a beast one day. -.-
