John Lynch said peace out to the Denver Broncos today. He is Herm Edwards‘ kid’s Godfather, or something like that, but I still don’t expect him to end up with the Chiefs. The Tampa Bay ties might make it a rumor, but pay no heed. Doesn’t make sense for either party. From ESPN:
Longtime star safety John Lynch is leaving the Denver Broncos.
The likely Pro Football Hall of Famer made his decision this afternoon after pondering his future for the past 24 hours. Lynch, who will turn 37 in September, confirmed his departure to Denver television station KCNC. Lynch appears on a show with the station. He told the station he will consider his options both inside and outside of football. Lynch has aspirations to do television work after his playing days.

I can almost guarantee that Lynch will retire from football. He was talking pretty big earlier this offseason about competing for the starting job and knowing he could do it, but now it appears that he’s changed his tune. I guess maybe he just couldn’t keep up.
I always thought he was a dirty player.
I always thought Romanowski was the dirty player over there. But I’ll grant you John Lynch was a ferocious hitter… NO doubt.
Food for thought:
Lunch was always more of a hard-hitting, run-supporting safety. Not so much of a quick cover guy. Yet he is still revered as one of the great NFL safeties. Suppose Bernard Pollard could be the same way? And personally I don’t think Pollard’s coverage skills are all that bad.
If Lynch comes to the Chiefs, it will be as a DB coach.
PvChiefs–nice line.
SeanB, one thing you and I definitely agree on is Pollard. I can’t fathom how anybody could think Page is the better player up to this point. Get Pollard out there with some corners who can actually run and he’ll excel.
Page is the clutch play guy. But give him a 12-year-old to tackle and he’ll come up empty. I’d be disappointed if we lost Page, but if we lost Pollard I’d be pretty pissed. His special teams play speaks for itself.
Agreed. It will be interesting to see if their speed will be exposed again now that we have some corners who can actually run. Still, I feel great about our safeties. In McGraw and Morgan, you have one good back-up and one good back-up plan.
