Casey Goes To Smack
Looks like another former Chief wants to run his mouth about taking it to the Chiefs this season. This time it comes from Casey Wiegmann, who will be playing second fiddle to Tom Nalen.
“It’s strange, and it isn’t. When I first signed here, the first thing I thought of was Neil Smith,” Wiegmann said Tuesday, referring to perhaps the most successful Kansas City-Denver convert. “Hopefully I can duplicate what he did and win a couple Super Bowls. That would be nice. But it’s a job and you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”
“I think it was that way back in the day. . . . But I’ve got a few friends who left the Chiefs and went elsewhere and ended up coming back and beating them. That’s kind of what I’ve got in mind, too,” Wiegmann said. “(Ex-Chiefs safety) Greg Wesley went to the Raiders. It’s just what happens.”
Thanks for the locker room material, Casey! I guess he thinks he will beat the Chiefs from the sidelines.

How much longer is he planning on playing? He’s talking about possibly winning a couple of Super Bowls. As far as I can tell, that current roster is nowhere near the Super Bowl. Probably won’t be for at least 10 years with the way Shanahan is handling it. Plus, he’s a backup, so he’s going to watch the game, not have any kind of hand in it.
July 30th, 2008 at 1:25 pmExactly. I guess he will keep playing as long as he can collect a paycheck.
July 30th, 2008 at 1:31 pmI hope Tom Nalen gets hurt so we get to see Glenn Dorsey maul Wiegmann up and down the field.
July 30th, 2008 at 2:10 pmWhew, now that would be fun!
July 30th, 2008 at 2:36 pmNot for Wiegmann. Not after the past two days of practice Swamp Thing has had. He’s becoming a monster right before our eyes, and quickly.
July 30th, 2008 at 2:47 pmWhile we’re talking about someone ripping it up in practice, what is up with Pat Thomas? He’s not even talked about in any previews as being a contender, and all the camp coverage I’ve read say that he looks like the front runner. Sounds like he is making a name for himself so far. He’s been running with the first team at MLB an awful lot.
Direct Quote from WPI
“Pat Thomas was simply all over the place this morning. In 11-on-11’s he penetrated to bring down a running back for a loss, and was part of a wrecking crew that blew up a screen pass. Later, Thomas pursued Tyler Thigpen on the bootleg and forced him out of bounds for a negligible gain. Finally, Thomas locked up on tight end Tony Gonzalez on another bootleg attempt, and stuck to him like glue before slapping away the ball. If you ask me, in one practice Thomas showed up more than Napoleon Harris has all camp”
July 30th, 2008 at 3:02 pmYeah – Teicher and the radio guys are all singing the same tune about Thomas coming in and shaking up the established order. All I’ve got to say is what’s working for him has to be even better for the Chiefs D as a unit and good for him dammit! Let’s hope it carries over from the practice field onto the game field.
July 30th, 2008 at 3:15 pmThis from Teicher on the Star’s website:
RIVER FALLS, Wis. | Napoleon Harris joined the Chiefs last year as a high-priced free agent and their starting middle linebacker.
Demorrio Williams joined the Chiefs this year as their highest-profile free-agent addition and someone to challenge Harris for a starting spot.
Pat Thomas joined the Chiefs last year after 31 teams passed on him and he cleared waivers.
But Thomas, for now at least, is the Chiefs’ starting middle linebacker. The Chiefs had been rotating Harris and Thomas, but Thomas received all of the first-team snaps Tuesday afternoon, the only full-team practice of the day.
The Chiefs were disappointed in Harris, and indicated Williams might start at one outside linebacker position with Donnie Edwards moving into the middle. But Williams has yet to play with the starters
July 30th, 2008 at 3:21 pmMan I liked Wiegmann while he was here. Fuck him though. That kind of shit pisses me off.
And good for Pat Thomas. I don’t care who plays that position, as long as it’s the best man for the job.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:24 pmOh no! Wiegmann might throw a bottle on the field and trip somebody while he’s acting as Shanny’s water boy! Dream on you bench-warmin donkey castoff.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:38 pmAnd as for Teicher – I find the whole situation laughable. Now, don’t get me wrong: if all these things being said about Thomas are true, great for him. Go out there and take that starting job son. I’m not saying that Naps deserves the job. He didn’t really look that bad to me last year, but I don’t analyze game film.
But Teicher is kissing the ground now that Naps has lost starting time. Why? Because he was the sole originator of the “Donnie’s-moving-to-the-middle-to-make-room-for-Williams-because-Harris-sucks” rumor. He MADE THAT SHIT UP. Go back and look. The whole internet was raving about the roster shakeup, not because it was true, but because the local paper reported it! Teicher saw the pick up of Williams and CREATED his own news from it because it was a slow period, and everyone else took it and ran.
Never once did he site a source. Never once did anyone from the organization mention anything to that effect. And who were the starting 3 at the beginning of training camp? That’s right.
Now Teicher’s jumping on the bandwagon saying, “See I was right! The Chiefs are mad at Harris! It didn’t go down how I thought it would…but look! He’s not the starter! Hah!”
Sorry for the rant guys, but he just burns me. I think I actually hate his self-made news more than Shitlock’s retarded opinions.
Whew! I’m done. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:54 pmScott – dead on concerning Teicher…
July 31st, 2008 at 9:28 amI don’t understand the outrage. Wiegmann is on a different team now. And that team happens to play the Chiefs twice. Obviously, Wiegmann wants the Broncos to win and obviously he’d like to win the Super Bowl. Did anyone really expect him to want anything else?
It’s not like he said he wants to cream the Chiefs because he was pissed off at how they treated him. It’s not like he went into a rant about how he hates KC and the front office. He simply said he wants to win football games.
I don’t know how that quote possibly qualifies for “running his mouth.”
July 31st, 2008 at 1:31 pmIt wasn’t nasty, chiefszilla, but it was smack nonetheless. Smack is smack, even when it’s veiled in a friendly tone. I don’t blame him or hate him, by the way, but I do want him to get his ass whipped by us. You wear those colors and you are the enemy. Period.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:46 pmDamn skippy
July 31st, 2008 at 1:59 pmAdam, I don’t think it even qualifies as smack talk either. I guarantee that someone asked him if he was looking forward to facing the Chiefs and beating them, or something like that. There is absolutely, positively no reason why Wiegmann would give any indication that he wanted the Chiefs to win. It doesn’t sound like he was ranting. I think he was asked a question and probably answered as 99% of other players would answer the question. I actually think he answered it with class–it sounded pretty clear to me that he knows he’s on a different team, but he doesn’t begrudge the Chiefs. How bad of an impression would that leave on Denver’s front office and players if Wiegmann acted like he wanted KC to win those games?
I don’t begrudge the guy. He gave great service to the Chiefs. The choice for him to leave KC was not Casey’s, it was KC’s. And it sounds like Denver was the only team really biting, so I don’t blame him for going to a division rival either.
We have to face the reality that few players who make their mark as Chiefs will finish their careers as Chiefs. And that means that for 1 or 2 times during the season, that player plays for the enemy. And that as a player for the enemy’s team, there is zero incentive for him to root for any other team than his own. If we’re not careful, we’ll hate every player that leaves the Chiefs, and that’s a shame, because a guy like KC has done more than enough in KC and the community to earn the right not to be called a jerk for making harmless comments like this.
July 31st, 2008 at 5:19 pmScott: SHITLOCK??!! ROTFLMAO!
July 31st, 2008 at 5:27 pmChiefzilla,
We never called him a jerk. We just said that he gave us a little bulletin board material. What are you, president of the Casey Wiegmann apologists? The guy was a pedestrian player who looked good because he played next to Shields and Waters, nothing more. In fact, we saw that without Shields he was exposed as undersized. No hard feelings, but there’s no reason to be all up on his jock.
And if you put on that orange and navy I will never feel the same about you. That goes for Dale Carter, Neil Smith, Tony Gonzalez (who would never do that), Jesus H. or anybody else. It’s like gang warfare–I’m not down with those colors. Or the silver and black.
I’ve also always felt that Wiegmann went to Denver to try and stick it to us. Don’t tell me there wasn’t at least one other team out of 30 interested. I can’t believe that. Won’t.
July 31st, 2008 at 5:42 pmWow didn’t know we were Broncos apologists now.
Listen I still love Tony Richardson, Trent Green, Dante Hall and a bunch more former active Chiefs, but when you put on the Silver & Black or the Blue & Prison Orange I can’t like you again until you retire, Sorry.
July 31st, 2008 at 5:47 pmLOL, looks like Adam and me posted that at the same time. I guess brothers do think alike sometimes.
July 31st, 2008 at 5:48 pmGuys come on. Please don’t attack chiefzilla for his opinions. That’s all I’m gonna say about that. He has a very valid point and expressed it well. He never did anything to warrant being called an “apologist” for the “enemy”.
Casey Weigmann was a fantastic center for the Chiefs, and I respect for his time and hard work here. It’s weird to me that he seems to be looking forward to beating his old team so much; but, then again, we didn’t really get the full context of the interview.
Just cool it on the whole belittling someone else’s point of view thing. That’s all I’m saying.
August 1st, 2008 at 1:27 amHmm, I doubt he’s going to be doing much winning. A nice snippet I found about the Broncos, and happened to like very, very much is this:
The Broncos had 28 draft picks from 2002-04. Selections from those drafts should be the backbone of a contending team – players in their fourth (2004), fifth (2003) and sixth (2002) NFL seasons. But the Broncos only have one player left from those three draft classes – linebacker D.J. Williams, a first-rounder in 2004.
They’ve had even rougher draft-days than we have, and I think it’s safe to say, we pwned them in this years’ draft as well. I think we’ll be riding on the Donkeys for a long, long time. Sorry Casey ol’ buddy ol’ pal. You picked the wrong team at the wrong time.
August 1st, 2008 at 2:29 amuh maybe his choices were limited to… uh… one?
August 1st, 2008 at 5:26 amNothing wrong with calling someone an apologist. We weren’t belittling him, just disagreeing. Not personal at all, just about football. We appreciate his POV, but he got way too serious about us having a little fun with Casey going over to the Darkside. Chiefzilla knows his Chiefs, no doubting that, but we just felt he was a little too protective of a Bronco.
August 1st, 2008 at 8:58 amAnd it’s real hard for me to believe that he’s a starting center, no easy position, one minute, and the next only one team has interest in him, even as a back-up. Excuse my French, but that’s a bunch of bullshit
