Stray Arrows: Eric Parker A Chief?
Could ex-Chargers WR Eric Parker end up with the Chiefs? I’m not the only one who thinks it’s a possibility. From Bill Williamson’s AFC West blog over at ESPN:
Parker was cut by San Diego on Wednesday. He missed all of last season with a toe injury and he is not completely ready. But he expects to return soon. When Parker is ready, he could get interest from the Chargers’ AFC West foes.
Both Oakland and Kansas City could use a veteran… Chiefs coach Herman Edwards has said he wants to see what his young receivers do in camp and in the preseason before adding a veteran. If Edwards needs a receiver, Parker, a solid No. 3 option, could be the man.
I do think we need a veteran at that position. At the age of 29, Parker is a vet who’s not past his prime as well. Plus, he’s a return guy. I say why not. The guy will be extra motivated to stick it to his old team, a la Eddie Kennison.
What does everybody else think of the possibility of the Chiefs adding Eric Parker to the team’s thin receiving corps?

I don’t know. I’ve always kind of liked Eric Parker, but I think Herm is actually right here. Wait and see what the receivers we already have can do and THEN look into signing veterans.
July 25th, 2008 at 6:07 pmA solid number 3 guy is suddenly what we need? If he was a solid number 2, it’d be one thing.. But we have enough WR’s to play secondary roles to D-Bowe already. Webb, Sippio, Darling, Franklin, among others, with experience and all the combined talent we have, in the next couple years at least one of these guys should blossom into a nice number 2 guy. I think since we have a young offense already, and have already gone through the major growing pains of having a stagnant offense, we should just let our offensive guys ‘grow’ together, gel more, and eventually become a wrecking force in this league. Besides, Herm said he wanted to sign guys around 26 years old or younger, to flow with his whole ‘youth movement’, while Parker isn’t old old, and is a fellow AFC West-ian, I still don’t think it’ll be that great of fit for us.
July 25th, 2008 at 6:30 pmI have been having visions of Parker in a Chiefs uni for about a month now. Hes always been solid. Some people call him a 3rd WR but until the Bolts picked up Chambers, he was pretty much a starter every year.
July 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pmwe should sign him i mean wat have we got to lose…?? we have 1 proven reciever were very thin at that position lets bring in some people and see wat they got
July 25th, 2008 at 8:40 pmI also think he’s a guy who’s maximized every inch of his talent this far in the league. Very few guys do that, and that’s a big reason why I think he’d make a fine mentor. I also like having a guy who actually can get on the field as a receiver returning kicks. Otherwise he’s just like a long-snapper, punter or kicker–good for one thing only.
