Chiefs Fix: Some Quick Hitters
- OT Chris Williams has signed with the Bears. Given his position and where he was selected, this is a huge development as far as getting Branden Albert signed before camp goes. - Wincy City Gridiron
- The Chargers have cut Eric Parker. I have always liked Parker as a complimentary receiver. Plus, he has experience as a return specialist and is only 29. He is a little injury prone, but has ability, experience and, from what I can tell, a winning attitude. Maybe Donnie Edwards will put in a good word for Parker with the Chiefs? Remember, Eddie Kennison was once in a similar spot. - PFT
- Chris over at A.P. has been doing a great job priming everybody for training camp, especially with cuts. Be sure to head on over there frequently. - Arrowhead Pride
- An interesting stat from Jeffrey Flanagan, who’s blog I’ve really enjoyed thus far. The Chiefs have the seventh easiest strength of schedule. What does that mean? Hard to say since the percentages are based on last season, but it’s certainly not a bad omen. - Flanny’s Over The Top
- Kim over at P.O. assesses the AFC West. It appears neither her nor Michael Lombardi think much of our chances. - Predominantly Orange

Williams signing is great news. Lets hope this kick starts something for Carl and Albert. It is much more critical to have him in camp on time than Dorsey. The O-Line needs to gel.
Anyone heard anything on Flowers? KC Star reported yesterday that he should be signed soon.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:55 pmFlowers will be signed soon, reportedly before camp.

Kansas City Agrees to Terms with CB Brandon Flowers
Jul 23, 2008, 2:20:01 PM
Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a four-year contract with CB Brandon Flowers. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:48 pmHey Adam/Zach:
Now that the NFL is investigating the Vikings for tampering with Farve… what do you think of the possibility they also tampered with Jared? I mean, the did make him the best paid defensive player in NFL history, and if they’d found a way to let Jared know they would do that… it could be part of the reason he would not negotiate with the Chiefs after last season. What do you think>
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:50 pmThat’s some sweet smelling news about Flowers.
Interesting theory CurtMerz. Maybe the front office should consider looking into Jared’s cell phone records too?
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:20 pmFlowers </pun off
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:21 pmAs far as the tampering goes, maybe. But I think we’re pretty happy with Branden Albert, and the three players we were able to draft in the third (Charles, Cottam and Morgan) due to those two extra third-rounders. Why would we want to investigate? Fans might, but I’m pretty sure King Carl doesn’t. After seeing what Jared signed for and what the Dolphins got for a former DPOY, I think the King’s pretty content.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:38 pmNo, I don’t want us dragged into any of that legal nonsense the Packers are pulling right now. It’s a selfish stunt is all it is, and I don’t think our organization needs any part of it. Jared Allen is happy where he is, and I’m happy for him.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:39 pmGood points about JA guys. Unless the NFL awarded us the Vikes 1st round pick or something along those lines, there probably wouldn’t be too much to gain from pursuing it.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:45 pmI didn’t ask if they Chiefs should investigate… I asked if the NFL should take a look - and mostly the thought occurred to me because the Vikes were involved.
And you’re absolutely right Adam, after seeing what MN paid Jared and what the ‘Skins are going to do with their new DE… King Carl is smelling like a rose on the Allen trade.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:00 pmI don’t see a reason in signing Parker. We already have half a dozen guys on our roster. Not to mention we just signed to more bodies to the list. I say we give Franklin, Darling, Webb, and Robinson a chance to make a difference.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:19 pmI think the fact that Parker is a talented special teams guy would make him worthwhile. I also think he’d make a good mentor for some of the youngs, yet he’s still young enough to think he has a future in front of him. K-Rob also needs to be pushed. After last year the last thing we should do is just hand over the return job.
July 23rd, 2008 at 5:54 pmI guess we shouldn’t get too optimistic about having Glenn Dorsey signed and in camp anytime in the near future. His agent, Joel Segal (whose clientele includes JaMarcus Russell, Levi Brown, DeAngelo Hall, Michael Vick, and others) is saying he wants to “hold off” on talks with the Chiefs until he sees how things go for other top 10 draft picks. Apparently we should ignore the reality that agents for those other top 10 picks would have an even better justification for holding out until they see how much the 5th pick gets. The NFL has got to fix this rookie salaries/holdouts problem soon - the current bargaining process severely undermines the draft’s goal of creating better parity.
July 24th, 2008 at 8:13 amDouble D, I agree completely. I actually think the first step needs to be a rookie salary cap. Some of these first round contracts are positively ridiculous.
