chiefzilla,

Yeah, with the money he's about to make, his shoe collection and H2 would be like us splurging on Wal-Mart flip-flops and a Pinto, which isn't splurging at all. I mean, that's probably $50,000, which will be less than a game check. No big deal whatsoever.

Great points on the exception not the rule, and Sims. Great points.

1. A guy with a bunch of shoes and one souped car doesn't mean that much to me. I think every pro has that.

2. I think you will start seeing all these 1st rounders starting to sign, just look at how many have signed the last few days.

3. To each his own, some struggle some dont. Michael Strahan didn't even go to TC. Larry also had the worst OL he has ever ran behind and got hurt. I hear ya but I dont think it maters if a guy doesnt do that much in camp. LT and Peyton hardly do anything. Most of those guys are professionals and no what they need to do. I would say its 10x more important for young players to be at camp.

Here are my concerns:
1. There was an article a few months ago about how Dorsey owns a huge collection of shoes and drives around in a souped-up H2 Hummer. When I was in college, I wasn't even beginning to think about getting those kinds of things. Point being? I don't know the guy, but it seems like the guy likes to spend. And a guy who likes to spend is going to want money.
2. The rookie signing thing is not just a problem, but an epidemic. The Chiefs are not the only team struggling to sign their first rounders, which means that they're up against even tougher odds
3. Dwayne Bowe is the exception, not the rule. Missing training camp is always bad. Larry Johnson, a guy who worked his tail off to stay conditioned, was not even remotely close to 100% to begin last season because he was in great shape, but lousy "football shape." Recall that Sims broke his elbow in training camp a few seasons ago, and I believe Vermeil blamed that injury on Sims being out of shape and getting beat on a play in practice, and trying to cover it up. While Dorsey may be a good guy, he wouldn't be even remotely close to being the first "good guy" rookie who held out of camp.

Then, of course, let's add in that there's a lot of talk across the nation about Peterson's reputation as a hardline negotiator.

I'm not nearly as confident as everyone else. I think he'll show up to camp late and that that is a big mistake.

kcrob69, it's funny that you think the whole process is really that simple. First of all, there are 10 other picks this year besides just Branden Albert and the Bayou Bruiser. Secondly, it's really not just a matter of "we'll pay you this" "OK, where do I sign?". There are a lot of things that have to be worked out in an NFL contract.

Furthermore, do you honestly believe that the Chiefs just haven't been talking to their draft picks? It's not like they just phoned Dorsey and Albert yesterday and said "OK, um, about this whole 'paying you' thing... we should talk about that now."

Don't be a fool.

ps. Brett Favre will never be a Chief.

why is it every year that we don't start negoiating with our picks until mid July? I mean why can't the chiefs for once be the first team to sign their number one picks. We have them in for OTA'S we can see what kind of player we got then, and it always turns out to be pretty much slotted for the pick in that spot when we sign our player anyways. So why is there always such a holdup. Just get it done, and move on to more pressing needs like trading for Favre and winning games.

I'm sorry, why can't Albert's contract be structured such that if he starts at LT, he gets LT money but if he can't hack it there and ends up at G, then he gets G money? Aka "performance incentive."

Enough with the drama - just get it done.

Again, I don't think it's an issue of LT versus G money; according to SI.com, we have $36.6 (the highest in the league) in cap space avaliable. Right now, we can afford a LT, but Carl doesn't want to have to pay a top 5 DT along with an (LT) who wants top 5 money as well. Those would be two pretty hefty paychecks. I still think Branden wants the number 5 slot's dough. Oh well, we shall see.

I think you're right thebryman... at least the part about Albert needing to be in camp as early as possible... as to the guard/tackle money... I think the real problem there is only two other 1st round picks outside the top 4 are signed... thus making it difficult to get a handle on what kind of money Albert is due in the 17th slot.

Nobody wants to be the guy who sets the table for everyone else unless he's getting paid out of all proportion to what he should be getting for the slot he's in: i.e. top ten dough for a 22nd pick. This kind of thing happens every year and we'll start seeing the rest of the 1st round start signing over the next 36 hours, and that should expedite Albert's signing. The Star reported he intended to be in KC by the start of camp, so I don't think he will miss much if any camp.

It could be the delay with Dorsey is King Carl is of the same mind we are about getting Albert in on time being more important than getting Bruiser in early.

I have NO ideas what the hangup could be with Brandon Flowers. 2nd rounders should be signed by now.

I'm not worried at all. I think he'll get signed in a timely fashion. Even if he doesn't, I've never heard DT mentioned as one of the positions that is extremely difficult to make a college-pro transition to.

Like you said, Adam -- breathe. This is going to be OK.
