Stray Arrows: Long Signs, Dorsey Next?

Chris Long has reached an agreement with the Rams on a five-year deal with an option of a sixth. Financial terms of the contract were not made available. This now leaves Glenn Dorsey as the highest draft pick to be unsigned. I think this is great news for Chiefs fans because it now sets the stage for Carl and Dorsey’s people to get a deal done.

Let’s hear it Addicts: Do you think Dorsey will be signed in a few days? What type of deal will “Swamp Thing” get? Will Carl drag out negotiations and play hardball?

“Swamp Thing” is gay, seriously. Stop calling him that. Whitlock’s “Louisiana Purchases” are way better nicknames for Bowe and Dorsey.

Suzy D. It’s rare that someone is “special” enough to drop a homophobic slur and back Jabba the Whitlock in one fell swoop. Keep up the good work :)

The “Louisiana Purchases” doesn’t work. You can’t have one nickname for two people. Almost too clever for it’s own good. You also must not be a fan of comic books or pop culture if you don’t know who Swamp Thing is. Swamp Thing is awesome. You’re entitled to your opinion, but that’s our nickname for him here on this blog.

So lets get back to when people will think this contract will happen…

I know expectations for this season are low, but that being said, I hope he gets signed before camp, or before the first preseason game … I am not expecting him to sign until after the first preseason game though. I hope I’m wrong and he signs sooner. P.S. Swamp Thing is a good nickname, I like it.

I think he’ll be in camp on time. I’m more worried about Albert and Charles being late than Dorsey.

    Curt -

I agree with you. I see Dorsey signing really being an easy one now that everyone ahead of him is signed.

I think Albert will be the hardest because I am sure Carl will try to offer guard contract, but want to play him at LT. So Albert will want LT money. That one could get ugly….

Anybody know who the agents are for Dorsey and Albert? Their track records, particularly if they have done deals with King Carl could give us some insight into what to expect.

Folks have a tendency to blame CP for all the issues with late signees… but in the case of Tait - his agent seemed to be a big part of the problem.

I dont blame King Carl for not letting some pipsqueek bend him over. It’s his job to get a fair deal for the team and to keep 50 guys on the roster happy in the context of what the next guy got. When you consider the pampered prima-donnna lives most big time athletes are accustomed to… seems like a daunting job at best.

    Got this from Arrowhead Pride:

Dorsey’s agent, Joel Segal (who also represents Kansas City safety Bernard Pollard) of the agency Worldwide Football Inc., is a major NFL agent with a large client list of mid to upper level players. Segal’s other clients include Reggie Bush, Michael Vick (I guess he still counts), Alex Brown, Jerry Porter, Will Smith and TJ Duckett as a few examples.

Well, I dont remember there being any issues with Pollards contract… perhaps we can take some hope from the fact Segal and King Carl have already had a positive experience with each other!

The difference between Simms and Dorsey is that when Simms was drafted there were no other DL drafted ahead of him. So I think contract-wise it was a bit more up in the air. Since Chris Longs deal is out there it should be easier for them to reach an agreement.

    CurtMerzFan Says:

The only hanging chad I see in the Dorsey negotiations is the fact he was rated either #1 or #2 on the basis of pure talent in the draft on most draftboards, and his fall to #5 was precipitated by other teams needs… if he’s looking for #2 dough from King Carl it could go south quickly. He might get #2 dough in terms of overall contract value and length (i.e. apples to apples with Long’s deal) but his guaranteed cash is going to be less imho.

What do you mean you can’t have one nickname for two people? Didn’t you just call Turk McBride and Tank Tyler “TNT” like a week or two ago? Either way, we’ve been through this. The nickname is either “Bayou Bruiser” or “Kansas City Kajun”. That’s my final word on the matter.

But back on topic. It only bothers me a little bit that Dorsey is the only pick remaining of the top 5 to be signed. When he’s the only one left in the top 10, we have something to be concerned about.

    Adam Says:

Good point, Sean. If you aren’t pre-law, you should be. If arguing is your life and you’re this good at it, you might as well get paid.

Still, the Louisiana Purchases almost sounds racist. Both Zach and I felt that way. Also, when you get your own blog, then you can come up with your own nicknames. That goes for everyone :)

    SEANBCOOL Says:

Haha OK. I’ll take that as a compliment. :-D

    Double D Says:

Am I the only one here feeling a little squeamish about the fact that we’re sitting here at less than a week to go before training camp and our top 6 draft picks remained unsigned? Oh that’s right, I forgot that we have Carl Peterson handling the situation - it’s all good.

Btw Adam, I could be wrong but I don’t really think Suzy D meant “gay” in the homophobic way. The way I took it was it was “gay” meaning like “really lame.” That said, I can in no way defend her paying trib to JW. :)

Suzy D. from the NE! Says:

Thanks, Double D. I guess I’m the only one who’s ever heard that “homophobic slur” used to be an insult.

As far as Dorsey is concerend, I never believed he’d be in camp from the start, anyway. History speaks for itself. I’m more concerned about getting some of the other picks to River Falls. Dorsey probably doesn’t need the extra work that some of our later picks do.

    xxxlp Says:

How, exactly; is ‘The Louisiana Purchases’ racially oriented? It’s stemming from the fact we got them from LSU? It has nothing to do with color.. You’re just making it seem that way. If you want to play that game; then look at TNT as being racist. As the charge explodes in TNT, it leaves scorching ‘black’ marks on the earth. See what I did there? Yeah.. neither of them are racist names.

I think the problem with Albert isn’t going to be the T vs. G money he’s going to want, I think Carl will give him that. But I think he may want the number 5 spot’s pay-rate, since we got lucky in the falling of the Bayou Bruiser. In my mind, that’s the biggest snagging point of this process. I’m not too worried about our draft class as a whole; I think once the pieces start falling, they’ll domino their way into training camp.

    Adam Says:

Not saying it is racist–Whitlock came up with it. It sounds kinda racist, though. But, hey, I don’t have a problem with it. Everyone can knock themselves out using it as far as I’m concerned, I’m just not a big fan.

And I know what she meant, I was just being a smart ass and giving her a little hell back. She’s cool. Just can’t let people clown on our nickname on our site. On our reader’s nickname, actually.
