What players have a great shot at becoming surprise starters and doing some big things during the ‘08 season? The best comments will be featured in a future post!

If LJ gets hurt again or for some reason doesn’t perform, I would look for Jamaal Charles to come in and turn some heads. I’ll also go with Kevin Robinson as the dark horse ST surprise by winning the #1 KR/PR spot & perhaps also come in and catch a big pass or two on offense.

Good to see that we are getting some signed.

My Surprise started of the year: Tyler Thigpen, QB!!!!!!!!!!

Glenn Dorsey and Brandon Flowers don’t really count as surprise candidates. Everyone pretty much knows they’re going to start.

Jamaal Charles is one I’m going to watch. I liked him a lot in college, and he definitely has the physical ability. As far as former Texas RBs go, I just hope that Charles is more like Ricky Williams and less like Cedric Benson talent-wise. I hope he’s not like either one of them behavior-wise. I think it’s time to run a backfield-by-committee sort of offense. It worked so well with the Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson double-headed monster. Why not just plug in another Texas speed back? Besides, I think LJ’s carries need to be limited a little bit to preserve his durability.

Will Franklin is another. I’ve been rooting for Bobby Sippio since we acquired him, and I still hope to see him get playing time, but there’s some reason why the AFL star hasn’t caught a single NFL pass with wither team he’s been a part of. Will Franklin was on a team that produced at least 30 points in every game they played (except maybe the last one against UGA, I can’t remember) and he was a big part of that. I definitely think Franklin could be the speed to compliment Dwayne Bowe’s size.

Brian Johnston is almost guaranteed to get at least some playing time this year, or at least I hope so. I’m really interested in seeing what he can do.

I like Morgan the safety out of NC State. I like Pollard better on the special teams and first backup safety He really looked good at the public practice. I like his instincts better than Pollards hard hitting

I think DaJuan Morgan will really surprise some people. He has a good chance to dethrone Jarrad Page as FS. Keeping Bernard Pollard as SS. I felt like Morgan’s natural ability, and instincts will be enough to beat out Page’s weak tackling skills.

As for other positions. I think Tank will be next to Dorsey as DT…atleast thats what im hoping.

It my not be a “surprise” but i think Mike Cox has a great chance at winning the FB position.

  7. 7. Maine_Chief Says:

Pat Thomas. Could beat out Edwards and Nap Harris to start in the middle.

I know he doesn’t really count as a surprise starter, but I think Devard Darling is really going to surprise this year and be end up being a very solid #2 receiver. He has the natural talent to be a major difference maker, and I think he will be given every chance to be a major producer. In my opinion, he came out too early from college, he had a monster year his junior year, but he still needed some seasoning before he left. I also think that Baltimore was the one of the worst destinations for a young receiver. How can you develop with the passing game they have in place? For whatever reason he didn’t catch on there, but believe me, he has the talent, and I think he will be surprise people.

  9. 9. Donovan Says:

I’ve heard reports that some fear Mike Cox’s athleticism isn’t up to par but I feel that if you watch some of his highlights and read some of his reports we might have a great fullback. He can catch well out of the backfield and explode out of the gate knocking over anyone he sees in the area. He could be a fan favorite. Like Boomer but good.

I also believe that Kevin Robinson will be turning alot of heads and become another fan favorite. Like Dante Hall but good.

  10. 10. JASON Says:

I think that Brandon Carr is going to be a starter early on and excel. The guy gave up NO TDS in his college career, and i know it was d2 but come on.

  11. 11. TeamPriest31 Says:

SEANBCOOL…I would much rather have Charles run like Priest Holmes than Ricky the Sticky Icky Williams.

  12. 12. SEANBCOOL Says:

    TeamPriest31:

I said I’d rather him be more like Ricky Williams than Cedric Benson. But yes, Priest Holmes would be fine too. Whatever.

  13. 13. foreverchiefs Says:

I think our big surprise will be in Brandon Carr himself a couple of reasons.#1 being he tallied a team high 6 interception’s and 15 pass deflections….That’s gotta tell you that he has some good breaks on the ball and also good Quarterback awareness which is key in the NFL. But that could also be that his D-line was putting alot of pressure on the QB and he got lucky, I’d much rather think he has good awareness!#2 He has something to prove coming out of a small school and will play with a chip on his shoulders. At 6′1 206lbs Expect Brandon (Boy Wonder) Carr to be a big surprise. I gave him that nick just because it sounds good lol. Peace from Oceanside Cali!

  14. 14. Jotan Says:

Bobby Sippio should get at least a little playing time.
I know Connor Barth is going to be a better kicker than Justin Medlock

Watch out for Big Barry Richardson. he could play RG or RT.

  15. 15. SEANBCOOL Says:

Justin Medlock was a fucking joke. I’ll bet Lawrence Tynes was glad we traded him to the Giants though.
