They say "Genius runs in narrow strips - and it is quite often associated with other odd or eccentric behaviours". For instance; Einstein could never be bothered to wear socks of the same color - most likely he was simply too busy to be bothered with noticing the color of his socks. In this light, it's not too hard to see why football coaches as a class are often called geniuses - their singular talent not withstanding... they ARE a fairly odd and eccentric collection of personalities.

I actually agree with SeanBCool on this one.

There are genius painters, writers, filmmakers, musicians...tell me Stevie Wonder isn't a musical genius. Or George Carlin and Richard Pryor weren't comic geniuses. Genius doesn't necessarily have to be regulated to science and industry, friend. I've always been frustrated by that sentiment. Coaches can be geniuses within their respective fields. Was the way that Bill Walsh revolutionized football not genius? Sure, it's all relative and some genius contributes more to mankind, but let's not skew what the word means.

Will people please stop criticizing my use of the English language (which I have a fair mastery of, thank you very much)? Seriously, I didn't know you were a dictionary.

Genius can be defined as "natural ability or capacity; strong inclination".

Bite me.

And will people please stop using the word "genius" to describe football coaches. Seriously, I didn't know Dick Vermeil developed a cure for cancer or invented the first internal combustion engine to revolutionize travel.
