Glenn Dorsey's New Nickname Is…Swamp Thing!

Posted by: Adam Best

The Chiefs' Glenn Dorsey is...Swamp Thing

We challenged Chiefs fans and you all answered emphatically in less than a season of Jack Bauer. First-time commenter Timmer nailed Glenn Dorsey’s new nickname with his first shot out of the box!

Some ideas:

~Swamp Thing – a connection to his Louisiana roots and his monstrous, superheroish ways along the D-line

Great job, Timmer. We’re absolutely loving Swamp Thing! Big, monstrous DT who hails from Louisiana and conducts his battles in the muck and trenches. Perfect!

I think we’ve got the other rookies taken care of, too–Flowers Child (the psychedelic, 60s-inspired moniker has been a flop), Phat Albert and The Helicopter. By the way, readers saying that we should wait until he proves himself, and that he could be the next Ryan Sims. Puh-lease. Dorsey is a warrior, the anti-Sims. Don’t worry about him at all, because he’s definitely a player.

  • Also, and this is crazy, we just got banned from Wachovia’s work servers. Sorry to all you Wachovia folks–that sucks. Maybe I’ll have to go Tyler Durden on that ass?

    I still like “Demolition Dorsey”

  2. 2. Adam Says:

Either you were way to into Ax, Smash and Crush, or Stallone and Snipes. Swamp Thing is just nasty, fitting and unique. I think it is going to stick.

  3. 3. Jotan Says:

    Jamarcus Russell should be worried
    i see a 7 sack season!

Flowers child? ugh…. double ugh…. triple ugh…… did I say ugh???

  7. 7. Zach Says:

    Thanks Crane!

Ugh? lol I had to join in

  8. 8. Adam Says:

Flowers Child? I’m thinking Jimi Hendrix psychedelic, man. I like the name, but maybe it’s just me.

  9. 9. merlinnj Says:

    Adam:

you are too young for the 60’s. Of course, if you remember the 60’s, you weren’t really there.

  10. 10. xxxlp Says:

Flowers Child definetly has to go.. Hendrix or no Hendrix, it just has to go, lol. Swamp thing.. meh.. I heard a few better ones. I also heard alot worse. So.. Meh. Should have waited longer to pick any name, IMO, and we should try to brain storm an idea for Flowers.

  11. 11. Zach Says:

    xxxlp what is your suggestion?

  12. 12. Adam Says:

We can brainstorm on Flowers for sure, but a lot of people seem to be loving Swamp Thing. With him hailing from Louisiana and playing in the trenches, yeah, it’s a perfect name. At least if you ask me it is.

  13. 13. Adam Says:

And, Merlin, I wasn’t there, but I’m a classic rock junkie. I was there in spirit. In the late-90s and early part of this decade I actually thought I was there I think. Don’t remember much :)

  14. 14. CurtMerzFan Says:

Swamp Thing it is! Congrats Timmer!!

  15. 15. merlinnj Says:

    lol Adam.

  16. 16. CurtMerzFan Says:

So Adam… what kind of prize do you have in mind for Timmer? Maybe invite him in the studio next time you get an interview with Dorsey, so the Swamp Thing will know the face of the man who immortalized him?

  17. 17. Adam Says:

    Curt,

The logistics might be kind of hard on that one, with me in Austin and all, but I’ll see what I can do :) I will say this, though. If the nickname sticks then we will make sure that Timmer gets credit on Glenn’s Wiki page! That way Timmer can go down in Chiefs’ lore as the man who named Dorsey!

  18. 18. CurtMerzFan Says:

Immortality! Whodathunk it was possible anywhere else but here among the addicts? Maybe Gates or AB’s will pony up a plate of babybacks to go along with it.

  19. 19. timmer Says:

I feel so honored! In case anyone wants to know… I love short ends, potato salad, and fries from Gates. :)

By the way, props to Adam for fleshing out the swamp = trenches connection.

  20. 20. timmer Says:

And Zach also deserves some props for a sweet graphic.

  21. 21. Zach Says:

Timmer contact me by email and I can send you something. Unfortunately, its not Chiefs tickets but at least something. Sorry we are broke ass bloggers.

    fansided@gmail.com

    Thanks!

Only a Chiefs fan even KNOWS what short ends are timmer! Down here in Austin you go to the BBQ and ask for short ends you get the 10,000 yard stare. And even if you ’splain it to them… if you ask for two orders of short ends… expect one of them to be long. Some of the Q down here is good, but just like the laundryhat, they’re suckin’ hind t*t next to the most average Q in KC.

  23. 23. DaveS Says:

How about ‘Flowers Power’ rather than ‘Flowers Child’?
    bit scarier :-)

  24. 24. Double D Says:

Sorry – “Flowers Power” for some reason reminds of a picture from the 60s that shows a hippy chick sticking her flower into the business end of a National Guardsman’s rifle. It just aint right.

  25. 25. Double D Says:

Here’s a potential theme though – how about something along the lines of “Flowers at your funeral / on your grave”? Help me out here guys . . .

  26. 26. Double D Says:

Mitch Holthus announces “F-T-D delivers the hit!

  27. 27. Double D Says:

Brandon “FTD” Flowers intercepts and returns it FTD (For a Touch Down)!

  28. 28. Adam Says:

Flowers Power makes me think of Super Mario Bros., which is cool, but I am a child of the 80s, so…

We’re going to have to work on this one…

  29. 29. SEANBCOOL Says:

When did we stop being able to just use a player’s name?

I really think manufactured nicknames are about the lamest thing possible. Nicknames really have to be something that just happens. It doesn’t really work any other way. If there’s not a good nickname for someone, they probably just weren’t meant to have a nickname.
