Stray Arrows: Go Vote For The Chiefs' Pick

by Chiefs

Our sister site, NFL Mocks, is currently running a Fan Mock Draft where the fans vote, and the Chiefs are on the clock. We pick fourth, which fans also voted on. If that does end up being the case, and this is all hypothetical, then Brodie Croyle will likely not have worked out. That being said, the quarterback position will definitely be in play for us at that spot. That means options such as Matthew Stafford and Tim Tebow.  There are a couple non-quarterback options, too, including a trio of defensive ends and an offensive tackle.

Head on over there and vote, and then let us know back here who you picked and why!

If LJ stays healthy, he could be productive for the next 3 years or so. I know it is easy to get seduced by the 'skill players' and want to draft them high. However, I would rather build a top flight O-line and a tough D front seven. With that, you can plug in decent talent at RB and get 1200+ yards.

Also keep in mind that high school and college carries are nothing compared to NFL carries. Those are what wear you out. Everyone in the NFL hits hard and fast.

I agree with that logic, but on the same token, he set the single season record for most carries in a season. That's gotta take it out of you quite a bit to have such a heavy workload in one year. He also had to work extremely hard for those yards he earned in '06. And in '07, he worked just as hard, but usually got creamed for a loss, no gain, or very minimal yardage. It's got to be both physically and mentally draining to experience that. Honestly I hope he runs beast-like for the next 10 years, but realistically, I question how much time he has remaining.

I think he was saying that LJ didnt start in high school till he was a senior and the same thing in college. Plus first few years in the NFL were limited. So in age yes he is 29, but in football age for RBs (which is more about carries) he is young still. I think most 24-26 year olds could have more carries on their bodies.

xxxlp I'm with you there. For a bruising running back like LJ, 29 is no spring chicken.

Yeah Merlinn, that's what I'm saying, LJ is what, 29? He just missed ~half a season due to injury, and who knows what the future holds. *Knock on wood.* If something substantial were to happen again this season, we'd be looking for a replacement, as we did with LJ over Priest.

I took Michael Johnson GT. Only because he was under Gailey and he would be a known commodity. I would rather take Chase Kauffman TE MIZZOU! so I likely trade down and get him and Chase Daniel QB MIZZOU to reunite them with Will Franklin. Then go straight to the superbowl lol. Or maybe the Orange Bowl or something.

I don't know much about Tyler Thigpen's abilities as an NFL QB but I do know that as far as last names go, Yancey Thigpen's never seemed to be much of an impairment for him.

I would break something if we drafted Stafford. Not impressed with him at all, and I watch SEC football. Maybe I'm wrong though, you never know.

Tebow would definitely worry me. He's a freak, but I don't predict a long career for him if he keeps playing the way he does. Again, I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sold on Knowshon Moreno, but I doubt we'll draft high enough to pick him anyway.

I can't say that I would take a RB in the first round next year unless something ridiculous happens like all 3 of our backs get killed in a freakish trainwreck (God forbid).

But it seems like every time that Herm does something in the draft that has me scratching my head it ends up turning out. I was bitching and moaning like a Star reporter on draft day during the 3rd round, but I quickly changed my foolhardy disposition. Now I love all 3 of the picks. Brilliant!

In Herm We Trust (at least as far as the draft...)

I can't believe that none of y'all went with Stafford. He's the real deal. Last season, he was playing behind a young offensive line, and he still lit up the SEC, which is arguably the toughest conference in the country. Tebow would really worry me, as he takes a lot of big hits doubling as the Florida running game, and although he's got a big arm, I'm not sold on him as a passer. Knowshon has incredible skills, but we have to be thinking QB if we're picking that high in the draft. Just my thoughts, lemme hear what you think.

xxxlp:

Yes, it did work out fine. Priest was coming off of a major injury and was nearing the end of his career. LJ does not have alot of miles on him for his age. He would have to really go downhill and the other backs show little to think about going in SeanB's direction.

Well you could reference our draft. We had Priest Holmes, a prolific offense, and a horrible defense... We took LJ. That turned out alright, eh?

SeanB:

I wouldn't reference Detroit's drafts to back up your case if I were you. They have a horrible track record.

@Zach: Oh. Wasn't sure if the rule was 3 years or Junior status. But thanks for clearing that up.

The same reason Detroit drafted Calvin Johnson. He was too good to pass up. WR was not really a position of need for the Lions.

And the only sure thing at RB we have is LJ, and he doesn't have too many years left. He's 29 this year and for a bruising running back that's getting old.

I'm expecting Jamaal Charles to do big things, but you never know. And I don't really think Kolby Smith will ever be starting material (though I could be wrong).

I would have taken Adrian Peterson in a heartbeat if we could have gotten him, too. I couldn't believe it when he slipped to, what, #8?

The draft is about filling need positions, but it's also about getting the freshest young talent out there before anyone else does.

SeanBCool:

Why go RB in the first round? We will have other, more pressing needs than that.

Knowshon Moreno is actually a redshirt sophomore which gives him 3 years in college after this season. So he is eligible for the draft.

Knowshon Moreno. He is only a sophomore, so I'm not sure why he's included in this, but he is a straight-up HARDASS.

Seriously, if you have ever watched this guy play, you know what I mean. If Knowshon Moreno is still on the board when the Chiefs pick, they would stupid to not snatch him. I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Forget Kolby Smith. I would actually trade Smith and Jamaal Charles for Knowshon Moreno. We're talking the next rookie phenom here (a la Adrian Peterson).

With Oher gone, I took Michael Johnson, DE Georgia Tech.

I hate doing it. I really do, but I went with Tebow. I think Chan Gailey can use him a la Kordell, and be an unpredictable, yet efficient offense. Give them a couple of years to get synced up, which also gives our D alot of time to mature (Glenn Dorsey, Tamba, Turk/Tank, and our secondary, ought to be hitting their stride in the prime of their careers) and it spells success, IMHO. Also, if we're picking that high in actuality, then that means our O-line sucked, yet again. I think Oher will be gone by then, so we get the next best thing- a quarterback who can evade the rush effectively.
