Branden Albert Sits Down With PFW

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Chiefs | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

Pro Football Weekly recently sat down with Branden Albert to find out how he is enjoying Kansas City’s BBQ, what the transition from guard to tackle has been like, and who has he made friends with on the team. Here are some excerpts:

Kansas City is famous for its barbeque — have you been able to sample any great BBQ yet?

I’ve tasted a couple of places: LC’s Bar-B-Q and Gates Bar-B-Q. Those places have great food.

Being a guard in college and now moving to left tackle in Kansas City, how is the transition going?

It’s going pretty well. There are times where I’m doing very well and there are times where I’m struggling. But for the most part, I’m getting it and learning on the run.

Which Chiefs players have you become friends with?

Dwayne Bowe and Brian Waters. Most of my rookie class I am pretty good friends with, too. A lot of guys, but those two that I mentioned, I talk to and do stuff with on a regular basis.

Which player are you most looking forward to playing against in the NFL?

I would have to say Julius Peppers.

Now go check out the rest of the article to find out why he wants to go against Julius Peppers and how Brian Waters has been helping him along.

It’s really encouraging to me that Branden Albert seems to so genuinely welcome a challenge. I hope most of our rookies take that outlook on things.

  2. Zach says:

Exactly. I was a bit worried when they showed him on draft day with the “Oh Crap” look on his face, but I think he is really liking KC. He just bought a house and is making friends with two of our top players. Hopefully, Brian Waters can help bring him along quickly…which I expect him to do.

  3. Scott says:

It’s definitely a good sign if Waters thinks he can be another Roaf.

And I like that he’s looking forward to taking on Peppers. That’s a great attitude.

Can’t wait to see him take on Mr. Turncoat-DWI himself.

  4. ComeSackMyQB says:

YEA, i seen that too, at first he looked like he was disappointed we picked him and in the first interview sounded alil disappointed too, but now it looks up and i hope he keeps with the attitude, id love to see him dominate peppers, i watched the video of the rooks trip to the HOF and it looks like we have a great rookie class, dorsey looked like he really appreciated where the game came from

    Scott love that comment.

I’m encouraged about what’s being said about Branden, I think he will be just fine. Herb Taylor is the same kind of makeup, a guard who has the feet and the strength that he can play tackle (he played a bit of LT for us at the end of last year, and played well.) I also really like the fact he’ll be playing LT and he’s made friends with our pro-bowl LG. Even if Albert can’t hang as a tackle, he’s learning enough from Brian that he should be able to transition back to guard and play very well for us for years to come. One way or another I think he pans out.

  7. SEANBCOOL says:

Now if we can just do something about “DMac” and Adrian Jones. I’d almost rather have LJ on the O-line.

  8. SEANBCOOL says:

Better yet, Herm should move Alphonso Boone to right guard. Why not?

  9. MasterBlaster says:

Ok…he has tried Gates. Beef on bun to go!

Next step, Haywards. Mmmmmm burnt ends.

  10. Zach says:

Jack Stacks is the best, but I will always go for a Combo or Beef on bun with fries and a Strawberry soda from Gates. Love it!
