Rank The Chiefs’ Receivers

We thought this would be interesting, considering the Chiefs‘ wide receiver position is a complete crapshoot after Dwayne Bowe.

I’ve heard zilch about Arthur and McMahan. Anybody else?  The Chiefs had 5 WRs on the roster last year but I liked to think they might go with at least 6 this year because I think at least one of these guys (Robinson probably) will start on ST.   If we feel we have enough talent/depth, then perhaps the thing to do is to try to cop a trade for Webb?

  5. 5. Zach Says:

We aren’t going to get anything for Webb….

  6. 6. Herm Says:

So a guy who’s never played a down in the NFL is better than a three year vet? Don’t think so..

  7. 7. Ian Brennan Says:

I think Franklin has more upside than Webb but thats just my opinion

  8. 8. Double D Says:

I dunno about that Zach - I’m pretty sure there at least a few teams out there that would take a hard look at him as either a  #2  or #e.  He ought to at least be worth a decent 2nd stringer - like a LB or CB and maybe a conditional pick?   Webb definitely has upside and if he has a good season elsewhere, then it might work out pretty well for all sides concerned.  Just a thought.

  9. 9. Double D Says:

that should have read “#2 or #3.”

Chiefs | Team agrees to terms with Franklin
    Wed, 18 Jun 2008 10:13:59 -0700
Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson announced Wednesday, June 18, that the team agreed to terms with WR Will Franklin on a four-year deal. Franklin was the team’s second draft pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
alil off but thought id let you guys know

  11. 11. ComeSackMyQB Says:

Franklin has signed, a 4 yr deal so there is 2 now

  12. 12. Ian Brennan Says:

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a four-year contract with WR Will Franklin. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. Franklin is the second Chiefs draft choice to agree to contract terms, joining fifth-round selection CB Brandon Carr (140th overall).
Franklin (6-0, 209) joined the Chiefs as the club’s fourth-round pick (105th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. He played in 48 games (36 starts) at Missouri, catching 143 passes for 2,125 yards (14.9 avg.) with 13 TDs for the Tigers. His 143 receptions and 2,125 receiving yards are each tied for fourth in school history.
Franklin started all 11 games as a junior in 2006, catching 48 passes for 829 yards (17.3 avg.) with six TDs. He was named honorable mention All-Big 12. His 829 receiving yards in 2006 ranked as the seventh-highest single-season mark in Mizzou history.
The St. Louis, Missouri native was named all-state, all-metro and all-league as a senior at Vashon High School. He caught 37 passes for 907 yards with 17 TDs. Franklin was also a standout basketball player.

  17. 17. Brian Says:

They just put up the official Madden ratings. I think these are basically the same as the one posted earlier, but it has all the players, and the breakdown of all attributes.

    http://sports.ign.com/madden09/chiefs.html

  18. 18. Brian Says:

Brandon Carr is rated as the 5th worst corner with a 67.

  19. 19. Zach Says:

To think we would get a player and a pick for Webb (a guy that has done nothing) is crazy. The guys can’t even be a good #2 or #3 on the Chiefs so far and we have one of the weakest WR units in the league.

  20. 20. Ian Brennan Says:

I think Carr could end up being amazing for a fifth round pick, I really do see him starting if not at the begining of the season then somewhere in the middle, I think that Surtain could be used as the starter until Carr is ready and then can be used as a nickel corner later in the year, a 67 seems a bit low but he was a 5th round pick and they don’t give later round picks much credit….quick quwstion what is Brandon Flowers rated as compared to Aquib Talib

  21. 21. Taylor Says:

i see that they moved donnie edwards back to OLB giving his overall a 93, cuz they did have him as MLB and an 83.

they have billy cundiff as our kicker- supposidely conner barth has been the best, followed by novak, and then cundiff

damion micintosh is only an 80, did he go down from the one posted earlier

haha, greg wesley isnt even on there

  22. 22. Double D Says:

I was thinking more along the lines of conditional pick.

  23. 23. Zach Says:

I just read a LB or CB and a conditional pick.

  24. 24. Blue Says:

Cundiff has been cut.  Barth and Novack will go to camp.

  25. 25. Zach Says:

Your my boy BLUE! (sorry I had too) Thanks for the tip

  26. 26. Double D Says:

Zach, you read correctly.  I thought you were trying to say we couldn’t receive a set pick for him and so I  reiterated my point about the possibility of a conditional pick.  Anyway, you may be right about Webb not having much trade value but at the same time I don’t think it’s accurate or fair to say Webb has done nothing. His stats last year seem to me to be respectable enough (11 yds/catch) considering how ineffective that offense was at getting the ball downfield much less getting it to an open receiver.  My sense is that 2008 will either be a break-out season or a disaster for him and if we feel we have a good enough core of young receivers then maybe now is a really good time to consider the best ways in which to hedge that bet.

I but both Webb and Sippio above Franklin. Why? Franklin hasn’t done shit. College hardly counts at the pro level, we all know that. However, I am looking forward to watching him play and he had a great college career, so I ranked him 5th.

    He came after–

    - Bowe (duh)

    - Darling (didn’t play much in Baltimore but averaged over 18 yds. a catch last year)

    - Webb (even though he hasn’t shown us that much, he certainly hasn’t been bad, and he’s been with the team the longest)

    - Sippio (phenomenal in the AFL. As in, the best there was. I really think this guy has potential.)

After that I didn’t really care. Most of those guy probably won’t be on the roster come August.

  28. 28. thelandryhat Says:

I am sorry, but besides Bowe, who the hell are these bums? I would rank them if I knew who the heck they are. This is funny.

  29. 29. Adam Says:

This has sparked some genuine interest, especially the value of Jeff Webb. I smell a future post.

  31. 31. Double D Says:

I’d say Bobby Sippio sits atop the list of guys who have been given a shot and failed to impress. I have a hunch he won’t be around much longer.

Bowe is pretty much a known commodities at this point so I’m not too worried about him other than the “sophomore slump” thing. At this point, Darling also looks to be a shoo-in as a starter.

The guys that I’ll be following most closely are Robinson, Franklin, and Price – in that order.

I’ve never seen Robinson play but his nfl.com resume certainly intrigues –

    -OVERVIEW
There may be bigger names in college football, but the statistics prove it – there isn’t a more consistent big-play threat in the country than Robinson. At the end of the 2007 season, Robinson became the NCAA career all-purpose yards per play record holder with a 16.16 average on 6,479 career yards in 401 plays. Robinson, or “K-Rob,” is a very good athlete with the blend of initial quickness, acceleration and top end speed to help an NFL team early in his career as a receiver and return specialist – a position from which he has generated nine scores on a combination of punts and kickoffs – including one during the East West Shrine Game.
    -ANALYSIS
Positives: Lean, athletic build. … Good initial quickness. … Able to generate consistent separation due to his quickness out of his breaks. … Sets up defenders well and can get behind the defense for the big play. … Tracks the ball well over his shoulder. … Will compete in a crowd for the ball. … A natural with the ball in his hands. … Elusive after the catch and shows vision winding through the defense to generate positive yards after the catch.

Negatives: Level of competition is a concern. … Great production early in his career and as a senior, but struggled with consistency. … Viewed by some as a very good return specialist who can help at receiver, rather than the preferred very good receiver who can help as a return specialist.

Franklin I’ve seen and so all that remains is how he performs at the next level.

Price put up some phenomenal college (I-AA) stats but at the same time has never caught a ball in any NFL game and has never even suited up for a regular season game due to the fact he was placed (and remained) on injured reserve at the end of 2007 preseason. I guess I’m just really curious to see why the coaches, management, etc have invested so much in him.
