skitch:

Don't mind Double D. He still thinks the Patriots had some magic cheat code and now they're pushovers or something.

Double D:

Optimism for your team is never a bad thing. Joe Posnanski always writes every year about how he thinks it's the Royals' year, even though it never is. But all the wishful thinking and closing your eyes and putting your fingers in your ears and saying "lalalalalala" isn't gonna make the Patriots go away, much less actually be beatable. Because they still aren't. We will lose game 1. I'll bet the farm.

Skitch,

Call me crazy, "ridiculus," whatever . . . if we go up to Foxborough, take control from the opening kick-off until we kneel down at the end, I can pretty guarantee that will set the season's tone for both clubs. No way am I okay with excusing a loss in game 1 just because it's "the Pats" or because "we're rebuilding" or any other unacceptable excuse.

The Chiefs team I expect to see take the field on that given Sunday is one that believes it will win and then does just that.

Can't wait.

I think hell swap with Surtain for the first few then take over by game 6. Who cares what happens with the Pats. It's not like we'd be the first team to lose against them inthe past 5 years. Measuring the team against them on game one is ridiculus. I say start the youngs guys right away, it might be a rough year but at least we'll get some attention. Our primetime TV coverage sucks this year.

I think it's pretty easy to paint Surtain with the 'Ty Law' brush - fact is, Law wasn't just slow last year, he was geriatric. I think KC played coverages to hide Law's flaws and the scheme did not play well to Surtain's skill set.

That said, I think Carr starts out as the nickle and swaps with Surtain about 6 to 8 games into the season. This could actually be an awesome secondary - particularly if the Dline can get a push up the middle that forces QB's outside, or prevents them from stepping up in the pocket.

It's good to see any signings. Because of what the role requires and how long it usually takes to master it, I would much prefer a veteran presence at CB unless Surtain absolutely can no longer hack it.

I did see the other day where Surtain seemed pretty jazzed about the fact the Chiefs will be utilizing man-to-man more often - sounds to me like he's not too concerned about his abilities in that department not to mention that fact that he did handle that role pretty well while he was with the Dolphins.

As far as who should start at corner in game 1, I'm not sure that is as big a concern as others might think. The truth of the matter is that the secret to containing Moss, Welker etc depends almost entirely on making sure that Brady either throws off his heels or lands on his ass. I think the keys to getting a W on Sept 7 will depend mainly on stuffing the run, and pressuring/sacking Brady early and often. Our D-Line will need to be in the decapitation mindset.

It does not matter who you put at corner because the Patriots are just gonna cheat AGAIN and then pretend like they didnt know the rules if they get caught

But maybe starting the two rookies isnt such a bad idea. I mean the odds are against you but if the Giants can win the Super Bowl than anything is possible.
My point is if you put the rookies in up against Moss and Welker and they manage to hold there own somewhat, then there confidence will go way up because the rest of the season will be a breeze for them.

I don't want Carr starting in week 1, even if he is better than Surtain. He doesn't need to lose what little confidence he will have. By the time the game is over, he will not have any confidence left.

I also read somewhere that 3 of the 12 pics have been signed, but I can't find who the other 2 are. Anyone know?

i would actually really like to see both flowers and carr starting week one. I really like Adams point, theres no way surtain can keep up with moss on a deep ball. So all he would be is a veteran press and cover guy because of our defense. Which i seriously believe that Carr with his size, would be better at pressing moss on the line of scrimmage. Flowers and Carr for President.

Carr is already the third corner. The other train of thought is that if Surtain is going to get torched, might as well throw the young guy in there to get torched and learn. It's not like we're a SB contender anyway. But I know that's not going to be Herm's frame of mind.
