Don’t mind Double D. He still thinks the Patriots had some magic cheat code and now they’re pushovers or something.

Double D:

Optimism for your team is never a bad thing. Joe Posnanski always writes every year about how he thinks it’s the Royals’ year, even though it never is. But all the wishful thinking and closing your eyes and putting your fingers in your ears and saying “lalalalalala” isn’t gonna make the Patriots go away, much less actually be beatable. Because they still aren’t. We will lose game 1. I’ll bet the farm.

Call me crazy, “ridiculus,” whatever . . . if we go up to Foxborough, take control from the opening kick-off until we kneel down at the end, I can pretty guarantee that will set the season’s tone for both clubs. No way am I okay with excusing a loss in game 1 just because it’s “the Pats” or because “we’re rebuilding” or any other unacceptable excuse.

The Chiefs team I expect to see take the field on that given Sunday is one that believes it will win and then does just that.

Can’t wait.

That said, I think Carr starts out as the nickle and swaps with Surtain about 6 to 8 games into the season. This could actually be an awesome secondary – particularly if the Dline can get a push up the middle that forces QB’s outside, or prevents them from stepping up in the pocket.

I did see the other day where Surtain seemed pretty jazzed about the fact the Chiefs will be utilizing man-to-man more often – sounds to me like he’s not too concerned about his abilities in that department not to mention that fact that he did handle that role pretty well while he was with the Dolphins.

As far as who should start at corner in game 1, I’m not sure that is as big a concern as others might think. The truth of the matter is that the secret to containing Moss, Welker etc depends almost entirely on making sure that Brady either throws off his heels or lands on his ass. I think the keys to getting a W on Sept 7 will depend mainly on stuffing the run, and pressuring/sacking Brady early and often. Our D-Line will need to be in the decapitation mindset.

But maybe starting the two rookies isnt such a bad idea. I mean the odds are against you but if the Giants can win the Super Bowl than anything is possible.
My point is if you put the rookies in up against Moss and Welker and they manage to hold there own somewhat, then there confidence will go way up because the rest of the season will be a breeze for them.

I also read somewhere that 3 of the 12 pics have been signed, but I can’t find who the other 2 are. Anyone know?
